Well, neither, according to the text, did they know what was good or what was evil, which makes me wonder if they knew the being they walked hand in hand with in the Garden of Eden was God or really satan. Thankfully, they did eat the fruit and our eyes are now said to be open so we can't justifiably make the error they might have made.
