Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State has said that most Quranic education school pupils, popularly referred to as ‘Almajiri’, who roam the streets in the northern part of the country, are not Nigerians.

The governor noted that they are mostly from Chad, Niger Republic, Cameroon and others.

According to Vanguard, Ganduje disclosed this while declaring open a three-day retreat organised by the Universal Basic Education Commission in Kano.

The theme of the retreat is “Enhancing Basic Education in Nigeria towards a Robust Institutional Strengthening and Effective Stakeholder Engagement.”

He said, “From the survey, we have conducted, most of the ‘Almajiri’ roaming our streets are from Niger, Chad and the northern part of Cameroon.

“Once you improve the quality of ‘Almajiri’ education system, you are inviting other ‘Almajiri’ from other places to come to your state. That is another problem. The northern governors are working towards universal legislation that will limit the migration from one state to another,” he said.

90% of those Hausa speakers in the south claiming Nigeria are all from Niger republic.

I spend few days in enugu when I went for conference at UNN.

I was shocked that almost every Hausa speakers they're referring to northerners there are all Nigeriens.

And those guys are claiming Nigeria... Most of them even heve national ID card. Claiming Sokoto or kastina .

Even if you ask them... They will tell you that they're from North... They would never tell you that they're foreigners.

I think this a wrong idea. They should organize seminar about birth control. So literally Ganduje is sayin that no indigene of Kano state are among the almagiri? This a big lie, almagiri is essentially to poor Muslims.

Why haven't you called the NIS to deport them? Most of Nigeria's issues supposedly come from foreigners but they never go to that obvious solution. Useless politicians love playing the blame game.

To an average Hausafulanikanuri Muslims of the north there is no different between SS, SE and Benue /Igalla. They see them all as one people because they are all Christians except few politically positioned Igallas

Did you really read the news article?

The words of Governor Ganduje, "He said, “From the survey, we have conducted, most of the ‘Almajiri’ roaming our streets are from Niger, Chad and the northern part of Cameroon."

He never implied that none of the Almajiris are from Kano state.

Now this the problem has been identified what solution are you suggesting Mr Governor because limiting migration is not a root solution.

You need to close the tap not mopping the water
