The gas they are piping through the pipeline is for sale and profit, to improve commercial and industrial activities and production and to create jobs and generate investments, not for show or to blow the gas through the air or to dash dash.

It will make more sense if the loan is channeled towards completing the North to East rail section. That way, LNG can be conveyed by rail to and from the Niger delta to the north. Don't forget the same rail will serve dual purpose as goods can also be transported to and fro.

The problem with this government is not availability of funds but the wastage of available funds. We are digging Nigeria's economic grave with all these Chinese loans flying all around. The Chinese only want to create economic annex in Nigeria. We should be smart with loans.

This country is finished.

There are thermal power stations all located in the South of Nigeria that require Gas to produce electricity.

Rather than invest this kind of money in building a gas infrastructure for present and future thermal power plants, the federal government led by the Fulani elite prefers to spend money on an unnecessary project similar to the kaduna refinery.

I say again, this country is finished.

Is this not the same gas infrastructure that you need to send gas to thermal power plants? Abi how do you get gas to power plants if not by pipelines?

It's not by force to criticize or upside down.

Surface transportation of highly inflammable gas in Nigeria is like begging for serious disaster. No, we are not safety conscious and ready for that, underground pipeline is our best option.

Wise man and a true Nigerian; well done...!!! Did they tell you that, they are looking for buyers for their resources? Or did they themselves agreed to sell it to the North?

michoim:

Foolish thoughts. Will the south alone consume its gas, won't they look for market for profitable product utilisation? Ethinicity will dwarf the minds of some people.

Not a bad loan. The pipeline is a revenue generating one.

Why can't previously generated "revenue" pay for this project, instead of borrowing afresh?

LNG transportation is a global thing. On the scale of exposure to disaster, it is below 3%. The US have been shipping LNG via LNG vessels over the high sea to Europe for years. This accounts for 12.5% LNG supply to Europe. The commercial viability of this project at a time when the economy is already depressed should be our concern.

We should develop a saving and managing culture in the face of economic depression, not reckless borrowing and spending. There is absolutely no justification for this project.
We didn't embark on such when we were richer, why now that there is paucity of fund.

Elder Peter Godsday Orubebe, ex-president Jonathan and other Niger delta leaders past and present should be seeing how the north is spending their region's money.

You were in power for close to 6 years you could not complete the east west road that leads to your own home.

Shame to these Ijaw men ( Jonathan and Orubebe )

Buhari is taking loans to complete a strategic projects that will give the north a competitive edge using Niger delta crude oil.

It is high time SOUTHERN LEADERS become more useful to their own people.

JONATHAN WAS NOT USEFUL TO NIGER DELTA STRATEGIC INTEREST.\

He was just interested in PEACE, PEACE PEACE which did not help the course of the Niger delta region.

JONATHAN traded off THE PRESIDENCY TO THE NORTH and left Niger delta comatose.

This project, if completed to Algeria, easily passes as the most economically viable project Nigeria has ever executed with any loan.

I just shake my head at the level of misinformation and outright ignorance oozing off this thread. A lot of people on this thread have zero clue in what the project is about; all they needed was to just hear the word 'North', and boom!!! Mass hysteria...

The pipeline is going to Morocco.. the deal signed between Nigeria and Morroco should be scrutinized.

China built a pipeline for Sudan and they paid back with
crude oil ...

I don’t understand if it’s lack of exposure that’s is disturbing the current crop of leaders.

There should be future master plan for development of Nigeria. The future Nigeria as it is now is mortgaged for 50 years with all these loan.

Tizeti CEO was my colleague in one of the IOC, full employee resigned and started Tizeti.. there are a lot of bright minds in Nigeria but the Government is not supporting their growth.

To change Nigeria.. the youths must be ready to put all
hands on deck... look around the world . young leaders are emerging.
Are you seriously expecting buhari to plan Nigeria's future?

Seriously?

True.

The money for the gas pipelines would be enough to build the port Harcourt to Maiduguri rail.

Again, we don't have enough safety profile like the US to do surface gas transportation like rail transportation of flammable gas.

We currently transport gas overseas via ships, but we don't need ships to transport gas within Nigeria or to North African destinations.

The commercial viability is very strong and the fact that the economy us depressed doesn't mean we should not progress and develop.

No need to be negative any any means necessary.

You're suggesting that gas should be transported via rail instead of pipelines, and at the same time, you think it is the government that is clueless.

I expect Emeka Okuosa to become an almost dollar billionaire after this project.

Oilserv would be handling the pipelines logistics with some level of job creation

That is probably the only positive I see.

The last time I heard it was suspended or something like that.
There is certainly no hurry to do it.

Anyway, my point still stands.

If we had a govt with a semblance of intelligence, all hydrocarbon transfer to the north should have been planned through the Port Harcourt-maiduguri rail platform.

It's common sense.
