You lie!! They're more industrial areas in Portharcourt and Aba than the whole North, including your highly exalted Kano...
Why aren't the private sector undertaking the project if they are sure of the industrial base in North. AKK is just another failed project waiting to happen

We are clearly not seeing the bigger picture here .

Just watch ,very soon the 600+ students that were kidnapped in Kankara will be released , you know why ?

RANSOM MONEY DON COME .

These Northern politicians keep playing their script over and over again , create a ransom demanding problem ,take loan from China , settle kidnappers ,bandits or Boko haram in dollars , release hostages , capture the assailants , send them abroad and give them scholarship

You want to transport gas via rail, compressed and liquefied gas? In Nigeria?.... no my brother, you arent killing 2 birds with one stone, rather you're killing 1000 humans with one articulated bomb.

Even putting safety aside, rail or road are the most inefficient means of transporting gas; rather than making prudent use of resources as you think, you would be wasting resources by doing that. Rail or road or even ocean vessel transport of gas only become useful when its absolutely impractical to construct a pipeline.

You will make a better engineer than an economist. How many times have LNG transported by rail involved in accidents? This project is just another egocentric mission laced with emotions and no financial objectivity.

Borrowed money for Pipeline upon the insecurity level. If care isn't taken the money they'll spend to secure the so called pipeline will be greater than amount they borrowed

Where will the gas come from ?

from Niger-delta..

i think the Northern people are very very strategic in their planning...

i respect them for that.

with this map..its purely North and South-South/Niger-delta runs...

which I think makes sense..

u make the militants and the Niger-delta people happy, they give you gas as energy, passage from the Ocean for Ships via the deltan channels through river niger to Kaduna port..

its a win-win for both the North & the Niger-delta people.

but for the SW & SE.. i cant say.

How much is Ghana owing at the moment? Do you know for a fact that Ghana is owing or you just ventilating old and stale news?

nobilie:
Why didn't they indicate the destination of the gas pipe? We know its N'djamena or has it changed? How this loan will be repaid is the big question. Ghana is still owing us huge sum for years of gas supplied talk less of the amount owed us by Benin, Togo for energy supply.
World bank approved about $1.5b now China approved $2.5b. How it will be repaid, we don't know.

There is a vast network of pipelines running from the Niger Delta to the south west (specifically Lagos). Lets do a data comparison on how much the gas companies are making presently. The same gas pipeline supplies Benin, Togo and Ghana.

These countries are severely indebted to Nigeria as it is. Despite the market in Lagos, gas is still out of the reach of the masses. We are talking of the richest state in Nigeria that accounts for almost 52% economic base.

If you take a loan of $2.5 billion to supply gas to the rest of the north in the midst of cash crunch, how long do you think it will take to repay the loan.
This is just another subsidy realm we are heading towards. We take loans without asking the ultimate question, Can these projects repay these loans?

Between Nigeria and Algeria, the countries in between are not readily viable.

It's Ok for other people see sense, progress, development and economic opportunities in this project and it's also ok for other people to see the opposite.

It is imperative and economically sound to make sure that every region in Nigeria is gas connected. Your objections are not factual, just your opinion.

Arguing back and forth is a waste of time.

Have you bothered to ask yourself why this pipeline or do you want to be mischievous?
To answer your question, YES! this is my field, and I have a fair understanding of the economic and political importance of this pipeline for Nigeria.

The long term plan for this project is to develop the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline. This project has been in planning and paper stage since the 90's. The day Nigeria connects a gas pipeline to Algeria, that will be the day Nigerian gas gets to Europe. I do not need to explain to you the economic and political impact of Nigeria being a major gas supplier to Europe. If there's anyone who should be worried about this project, it should be Russia, as it could weaken their political/economic edge over western Europe.

But instead, what do we have on this thread? 99% of those opposed to the project on this thread are simply analysing from the myopic/ignorant point of view of tribalism; people just seem to get a hard-on whenever they hear the word 'North'... The other day I came across a video of some ignorant IPOB fellow analysing this project on Facebook and asserting with so much confidence how Buhari wants to dash Niger Deltan gas to his "Muslim brothers in Algeria".

Like I said in my previous post, even of we ignore the safety aspects, it is economically useless to transport gas via rail instead of building a pipeline.
