Its only the wicked that supports wicked government policies. Just imagine for a second that those resident zom.bies here in nairaland find themselves in the corridors of power, they will do a lot worst than this present government. I believe they are cooking something and want to subject Nigerians to poverty and hunger so as to buy them off with little crumbs. Smh

nooo naaa...i thought crypto currency is taking over...as an economist I'll surely analyse short run n long run reasons for this new policy..
I would like to know how positively it would improve d monetary policy of our economy and alos the effect it would have on our already weakened naira currency...

This policy will only reaffirm the CBNs control over monetary policy. In the short run(if there are no alternate route for crypto users) it will lead to an increase in FX liquidity as most transactions will pass through the official route.
Virtual cards and PayPal can be used.

There's nothing like going back to the Stone age.

Every government wants to control all the financial activities happening its jurisdiction.

The government through the CBN is flushing out cryptocurrencies because it is decentralized, so there's no room for third-party interference.

Besides, much of the illegal transactions on the dark web are paid for using cryptos because crypto-asset transactions are untraceable.

Exactly. Crypto is a threat to CBN, forex, stocks, bonds and other traditional financial institutions.
Criminals like drug barons also use crypto for money laundry.
If crypto overshadows traditional financial institutions, CBN will not able to make effective monetary and financial regulatory policy.
Also, wef with other world financial organisations is planning for great reset of currency. I do not know the detail.

Nigeria is the worst place to be in in these modern times.
Yes we have a banking system and that banking system regulates financial flow and economy.
Most countries that are saying crypto is illegal are going behind it and backing it up. even up to the extent of it been on world exchange market.
Crypto currency I believe even though its an easier approach to hidding criminal activites is still a major economic relief to Nigerians and especialy Small busineses.

Banks extrort from investors and its customers with the whole BVN stuff, NIN, SMS charges, VAT, etc....
Banks know that the moment they allow full fledged ditigal currencies and a system like Crypto that nobody regulates, it will cripple the banking system and they will no longer thrive because people like myself will rather collect payment through bitcoin and withdraw via same instead of using a banking system that will charge me for every transaction and even want to put me in a mortage situation.

I sincerely support crypto for SME's and other startups.

I have always said it that this government is run by insane people. How could you just wake up and make such a decision?

I won't blame them, next election, if you like collect 5000 you will get worse treatment.

Look at NIN, some idiot just woke up and made a decision without putting lots of things into consideration, so I arrive Nigeria now with no way to get a phone number. Many government decisions are never thought through.

We deserve better than what we are getting, Nigerians are smart people, we should never settle for less , mediocrity should not be an option when choosing leaders
The irony of it all is that,we don't Choose our leaders they are selected by the ruling class, your vote does not count.
Nigerians go suffer tey
