Whats the essence of this post other than showing off and childishness. Peoples circumstances in life are different. We have people at home doing better than those abroad and we have some residing in Western World who are stucked there for years and cannot even feed themselve. We all know those abroad send money home regardless of the country. Even those at home spend more money on their loved ones. We can't be comparing and competing with ourself. Yes it can. (avg. 50 per phone) * 6= 300. I assume he may be on a family plan and even if there are 5, the numbers would still make sense. It's not unreasonable. Some people pay ~$100 just for one line (tethering, smartwatch plan, tablet plan, etc. etc.)

Yeah, you can do that in the US as well. But a lot of people pay for convenience. I get unlimited data on my cell phone, but I still have broadband at home. Not judging whether it is economical or makes just sense. But his estimate is in line with US use cases.

For a family of 5. Province, Alberta.

1. Mortgage =$2,500 (ppty tax & insurance included)
2. Grocery Shopping = $900 (African food, Eat out Inc.)
3. Utility bills (electricity, shaw and mobile phones) = $700
4a 1 Auto loan and insurance = $730, we have 2 cars one is paid off. and one is on loan
4b. Auto Gas = $200 wifey doesn't drive much
5. Day care for the last child= $800/month
6. Miscellaneous =$200

Total = about $ 6000 monthly

This list is true sha, although not frugal like me.

Those who haven’t traveled think living abroad is Disneyland. It had its perks but you also have to bust your azz to pay these bills every single month and when you don’t pay, you get kicked out of your place or the utilities get turned off or they even come and take your car.
Living abroad comes with the stress of maintaining yourself monthly. People borrow money so they can take their annual trip back to Naija just to floss and flex then they spend the rest of the year or more paying that bill.

Trust me, some of these people are inflating the figures.

Currently my household spends about 45% of our income monthly. 5% goes out to family as support and the remaining 50% goes into savings.

This is post tax income and we already have our pensions deducted.

At time of retirement, we'd have saved our 50% which is roughly 3k+ cumulatively for numerous years + pension which is about 3k per month per person + the Canada Pension Plan that old people get (about 500+ per person).

Imagine my wife and I retiring with that much, and a paid off house. We can afford to do vacation anywhere without depending on our kids who will already be settled too.

Should we choose to retire in nigeria, we will be killing it too.

So, look at the bigger picture. pensioners are dying anyhow in nigeria and you dont even have as much old people because people dont live long.

there are local markets but i mostly go there to get meat and other stuffs but not everytime, maybe once in 3 months... but as for the supermarket, i go there at least twice monthly or 3 times sef, it depends

as for the country, its one of the most beautiful countries in the world but i can see its quite cheap compare to the few canadian monthly spendings above
