It’s too late to revise history, Awolowo was not a bigot rather he was focused on his region. On the other hand Azikiwe was the two-timer who acted as a friend to both Awolowo and Sir Ahmed Bello, as a matter of fact he spoke both Hausa and Yoruba and courted both of premiers of the western and eastern regions while back biting both and stabbing both men in their backs. Both men were being penned down for execution by his kinsmen in their bloody coup. 10 Likes 2 Shares |

Juliusmalema:Generation of cowards. In Yorubaland, suicide is a mark of honour. O se bi okunrin. He acted manly. Kings, warriors, famous people prefer to die fighting not feeble hearted people like Zik, Ojukwu, Nnamdi Kanu. You remember Adekunle Fajuyi? Those are really Yoruba sons. If anyone behaves otherwise, he could be a bastard, an Igbo man with Yoruba names. 6 Likes 1 Share |

Tajbol4splend: Aka foundation of tribalism over nationalism. Did you every hear of George Washington fight more for his village over the intrest of the freedom and future of the United states? Or Jefferson push only tribal sentiments (and make no mistakes there are tribes, beliefs, traditions, and cultures within the US as trump has managed to bring out). Bottom line is Nigeria was doomed from inception because we had founding fathers who belived more in the importance of the part than the whole. And That's the definition of tribalism |

Goke7: True. They won't talk about the nepotism displayed by Azikiwe in choosing the VC of UI etc. When something doesn't favour them they start crying. You see, I've always said it that there are only two ethnic groups in Nigeria that have used the word DOMINATE with respect to their intentions in Nigeria and relationship with other ethnic groups in Nigeria. The Fulanis and the Igbos. When the Igbos saw that their plan to dominate everyone in Nigeria won't come to fruition they decided they wanted to secede. They were all happy when the Igbo coup happened. They will tell you it wasn't an Igbo coup. Ask them how many high ranking Igbo politician or military officer was killed? Azikiwe was tipped off and that one ran to another country. Leave them. We are trying to rid our nation of Fulanis first. When we are done, we will discuss what we do with these Igbos for real. 10 Likes 1 Share |

Duel on this word and see if you are worthy to have a better country with your way of thinking. Remember this is how the northerners/South west people thought about Buhari before 2015. Even when they knew he once failed in the 80s they still accepted the package of Tinubu and forgot who he was in the 80s..Now he is the greatest mistake of our very existence. This man was picked on Nigeria by your precious Tinubu, who he is known for sourcing for technocrat ended up givings us a complete failure, becos he was too blind to win at all cost. I am sure Buhari is your one and only sai baba and you still think he is the best thing that has happen to Nigeria. |

MightySparrow: Sincerely I don't understand this delusional fools.....Awo put aside his ambition and went the honourable way instead of running like a stupid coward like ojukwu, this practice was widespread in Yorubaland back in the day when obas failed to protect his people he was given the calabash or parrots eggs and forced to commit suicide, even in japan samurais who fail at war are forced to commit suicide. Awo is no egotistical greedy coward who is willing to toss 3million of his people for personal interests... it's why I'd mark any Igbo man for death who insults this man to may face. God punish all this igbos, they're simply animals. 6 Likes |

143WaZoBia: You see ehn, before I stumbled upon Nairaland, I didn't give tribal sentiments any thoughts at all. We all see Igbos around in Yorubaland everywhere. I'm Catholic, I see them in my parish, we sit together on the same pews, we shake hands, we commune together etc. Then I stumbled upon Nairaland and realized that I hadn't been listening to the Igbos I met offline. The subtle remarks, the quiet blame, the continuous comparison and struggle to feel superior to the Yorubas suddenly burst here on Nairaland. The good thing about Nairaland is that it is anonymous. Your very good Igbo friend may be posting complete trash about Yorubas here and you won't know. The two of you may be cursing each other here on Nairaland and you'd still meet offline and be friends. Once in a while when their elders come out to say stuff like this man has done, it reminds you that all is not well. Whatever your relationship with the Igbos are, just understand that in their hearts, they will always blame the Yorubas for their loss of the civil war. That's why online and offline, they mock Yorubas as cowards because they thought we chickened out and didn't support them to fight the senseless war. A war chief Awolowo cautioned Ojukwu to dialogue instead of war. When they use the words betrayers, chameleon etc to describe the Yorubas, it's because of the lies their parents have told them. 12 Likes 2 Shares |

Ibos are terrible people. The moment you don't allow them to lord it over you, you are seen as a tribalist. It is the same Ibos that ruined Jonathan government by taking advantage of his numerous weaknesses They are the cause of the woes Nigeria is facing today. They laid the evil foundation in Jan 1966 8 Likes |

waleadeagb: These guys should cover their faces in shame! They deliberately forget Azikiwe and how he sold the South to the North, or how he was conveniently out of the Country when Ibo soldiers massacred the leaders of other regions. Is this not stupidity? How did Awo introduce tribalism? He was sold out again in the 1980s by same people, bringing Shagari into power. So what's the schizophrenic rant all about 10 Likes 1 Share |

Igbo wailers , biafrians always wailing till eternity, since when I saw this man Chidoka the formal minister taken the bail and personally driving Nnamadi Kanu from prison few years ago, I knew his stance in the Nig set up, he's in PDP to deliever Nig to the Igbo for Biafria. ObJ made him from nowhere as the boss for FRSC, since then, his inordinate ambitions to deliver Biafria is monumental, this is anoda Goodwill the Igbos re loosing, we re wiser, all their products are tribalistic. Anyone that has Igbo as frds can attest to their tribalism, it's in built. Meanwhile, about Awolowo, he had to do what was necessary, his wit won the war for the Federal govt, he suggested u don't feed someone at war with you, and route to supplies were cut and the war was lost, that's the singular offense the sage Awolowo committed that made them condemn him at will, anybody in the shoes will do the same, when the Igbos killed Sardunna and many other tribes n left their own , what do u expect from the rest region, the better they get senses. 7 Likes 1 Share |

kettykin: Of which party? Name one member of NCNC that crossed carpet in 1952. All those who decamped were members of Ibadan Peoples Party (IPP) led by Adisa Akinloye. Both AG and NCNC were banking on the support of the IPP to have good majority in the house of assembly even though AG still had more elected members than NCNC but should IPP support NCNC, the alliance would have got the majority. IPP decided to support AG because Azikiwe was not thinking of allowing a yoruba leader in NCNC to be the Western Nigeria Leader of Government Business (an equivalent of Premier then) and the igbo party started the propaganda of ethnicity having lost out. 7 Likes 2 Shares |

Nonsense ! He introduced "ethnic politics" because he did not allow Azikiwe,an Igbo man from the East to become a Premier in the West ! Their greedy obsession with Yoruba land did not just start today. Obviously, Mr Azikiwe did not think much of his people and their erosion ravaged land and that's why he had his greedy eyes on the western region. It is the same senseless obsession with Yoruba land that made a whole ex Governor of a state in the east to refer to himself as a mere "Lagos boy" and he was even proud of saying it ! Azikiwe, the greedy idiotic "one Nigeria" campaigner foolishly thought he could corner all the resources of Nigeria for his equally greedy Igbo people by being half smart with his dubious unity campaign ! He wanted one Nigeria that would be dominated by his people alone. How on earth would you (Azikiwe) leave your own people and prefer,in stead to govern in a different region and over a different people ? The truth is that Igbo people - Azikiwe,Nzeogwu,Ironsi,Ojukwu etc laid the foundation for whatever and everything that's wrong with Nigeria today. This is a well known fact that's clear to all Nigerians;sensible Igbo inclusive. Awolowo this,Tinubu that,Yoruba that ,blah, blah, blah ! What is wrong with most of you Igbo guys ? You hate us yet, you're all over Yoruba land ! What an irony. You're all mad ! 12 Likes 3 Shares |

What's this humdrum criticism about Awolowo? Chinua Achebe chided him for his economic blockade against the Igbos during the civil war, saying because it was brothers at war,Awo shouldn't have done that.Cry me a river! It was enemies against enemies.Brothers don't draw swords against one another.Under such circumstances,I would have done the same. Awo introduced the first TV station in Ibadan in 1959; built The Liberty stadium,Cocoa House-all with cash crops money. And,in 1964, introduced the Universal Free education. Some of the idiots criticizing him are indirect beneficiaries,as their fathers, even from other ethnicities benefitted from the project. Awo was first amongst equals.Even Ojukwu described him as the best president Nigeria never had.Former British PM, Harold Wilson, also said Awo would have become a great British PM. The British were very scared of losing their hegemony and imperialism in Nigeria- that's why they asked the unresourceful North to seize the military. History,in a flash, concedes to Awolowo. No leader within the Nigerian political space- dead or alive- could/can compare to Awo. What we have now,but beginning with the despicable incursions of the military into politics, are accidents of history.Gowon, Buhari,Abacha- all northerners- are accidents of history. They shouldn't have had anything to do with power. 10 Likes 3 Shares |

omoharry: Stfu you stupid fool.....my family and I campaigned for Jonathan in the last election in ibadan, financially speaking we had more to gain from the jonathan administration than buhari and same as alot of Yoruba's like me, tinubu's only mistake was supporting a failure called buhari to power....should we crucify him for that? This man built Lagos, a non oil producing state even to what it is now even when obasanjo denied him federal allocation, he may be a thief but he didn't take his loot to Switzerland or Spain, he raised technocrats and governors who have done quite exceptionally well....should we in the SW support PDP or criminals like bode George, you idiots seem to always have hot takes and advice for south westerners when your Niger delta region is an embarrassment to Nigeria, your leaders are known career criminals who steal community wealth and bring it to lagos to flex, their kids are either attending schools in the south west or abroad, the lakes, rivers and natural habitat of your stink hole of a region has been destroyed by oil spills and bunkering leaving your fishermen with no source of livelyhood, you guys earn 13% from oil revenues but don't have anything to show for it....the igbenedion family bleeped, raped and ruined Edo state via lucky, Alamieyeseigha, ibori likewise ruined and passionately ruined their respective states beyond redemption, the south east is basically a shithole. Focus more on your damned region maybe it would reduce the number of economic rats coming into the south west. 10 Likes 2 Shares |

Mozegee: I hope a day will come when y'all in the east of Nigeria realize that you have been and are being constantly fed lies and propaganda about what occured before and during the war. I hope y'all will be able to open your hearts and receive the truth because only the truth will set you free. Awolowo did NOT betray you. He never ever said the Yorubas will support you in your war. He categorically advised the younger and hotheaded Ojukwu to dialogue with FG instead of going to war. Awolowo said and I quote/paraphrase, "if the Igbos were ALLOWED to leave Nigeria, then there is no reason for the Yorubas to stay". Were the Igbos ALLOWED to leave? Awolowo was an astute leader. 7 Likes 2 Shares |

IF I MAY ASK, WHY IS CHIDOKA COMING UP WITH THIS STATEMENT? Answer: because he understand the blaming game in Nigerian political terrain to cause DIVIDE AND RULE. Most of us here on this platform are youth defending where we comes from without proffering solutions to the problems which has bedevilled our dear Nation. Awo, Zik and the rest has played there roles either good or bad. NIGERIA WILL BE GREAT AGAIN, what are you doing to make it great? IT BEGINS WITH YOU, YES, YOU READING THIS. |

FrLukas: The igbos covet all they see with the yorubas. Drag them to one corner and they will vomit the truth. Their problem is that they cannot innovate and be original hence they want to copy and have everything the see and hear about the yorubas. For me I don't loose a sleep whenever they come with their rhetoric. I only wish them well to have a future generation that will be original and be proud of their identity instead of trying to be what they cannot and have what cannot be theirs. Their older generation really did lots of damage and most times I sympatesize with them. Blaming others for your woes only shows your level of strength and lack of innovation. 5 Likes 1 Share |
