In the Bible, we saw God's people who were in the government. We have countries whose political system is not as complex as that of Nigeria. Now, can a Genuine Christian be a politician in Nigeria? with this corruption is it possible, and how?

The answer to that is No. Regardless of what you read of in the Old Testament, in the New Covenant, Jesus Christ declared it a sin for any follower of His to occupy a position of power/ leadership over the others, in much the same way as is obtained in the World we live in. undecided

So, you will not find a born again Christian occupying position of leadership or authority over people( other followers of Jesus Christ included) because it is against God to do so. undecided
I need the chapter of the verses Jesus said this.

A big yes, from scripture there were many great men who were in government from David, Nehemiah, Daniel and lot more, this is where the church is getting it wrong we want change but we allow corrupt men to be in helm of affairs, Christians must go into politics to advance the kingdom of God.

And he was ten times better than his peers...how can u be ten times better if you are not in the hem of affairs to make it happen. When a christian is called to service, why not? We are christians, we raise the standard in everything. It is even better if a "genuine christian" rule because he rules with the fear of God... You cannot tell me also that there are no genuine christian in the military force.. they are everywhere in every sphere of life...And when they rule, u see d difference..

God never intended for humans to rule humans {Jeremiah 10:23} because it will never yield any positive result due to nepotism {Ecclesiastes 4:1, 8:9} that's why Samuel agitated when Israelites (God's own people) demanded for a human King {1Samuel 8:5-6} there God made a notable statement that for the Israelites to have demanded for a king it simply means they have REJECTED God's system of rulership so God told them what will eventually become of the kings that will rule them! 1Samuel 8:11-18

So politics has nothing to do with God even his own people that demanded for human rulers regretted it heavily. When Jesus walked the earth he made us understand why it's wrong for God's people to participate in politics, Satan has been ruling through the majority that has always been on his side {Luke 4:6-8} that's why Jesus refused to participate in the political affairs of his first century contemporaries {John 6:15} he made it clear that Satan is the overall ruler of the world! John 14:30 compare to 2Corinthians 4:4

God's servants participated in the political affairs of other nations like Babylon and Persia but they were slaves in those land who have no choice. When Christ established Christianity none of his followers attempted politics because Jesus instilled in them that they are not part of this worldly government {John 17:16} so their own government is not of this source! John 18:36

So whenever or wherever you see anybody in Politics know that they're serving under Satan the Devil {Matthew 4:8-9} that's why they practice all sorts of evil things both publicly and in secret so Jesus is coming to exterminate them all! Daniel 2:44

May you have PEACE!

I totally disagree with you.

Hey guys the real fact remains politics or most people doing politics are dirty that doesn't make everyone doing politics to be.
Genuine Christians who decides to do politics should only realize that some things are out of their control and if they refuse, they become the bad egg ready to be flushed out.
You can be a good Christian and still be in politics, Christianity is between you and your God.
But your Christian reputation as perceived by men might be questioned when your followers question your administrations actions
You might be clean but the dirt of the tank underneath could still affect you

I am ashamed of you as a Christian. This same ideology has been what Sam Adeyemi has been trying hard to preach against, it is mental slavery in the Christian community.

He warn Christians of the limitations of human and that is what they saw. That is what everyone experienced, but God never in anywhere was quoted saying satan is behind those that wants to rule? God know the importance of leadership, for any social animal, there will be some form of leadership, even in the wild pack animal forge their own leader not to talk more of human who are chief social of all. The answer is A CAPITAL "NO"because you said in Nigeria but in the western world the answer is "YES"
This is because here in Nigeria even if you make up your mind to be honest and upright, they will boldly tell you that its not the system unless you want to be assassinated because you are going to block their view unless the majority of the players in the system has the same ideology with you otherwise corruption has eating deep the bone marrow of many Nigerians that we see evil as part of the system.
Re: Can A Genuine Christian Be A Nigerian Politician? by MaxInDHouse(m): 8:59am On Mar 28, 2021
Thanks for your response!

God never intended to choose kings for the Israelites and that's clear from what transpired between God and Samuel.
Yes due to the covenant He made with Abraham God kept putting up with the flaws of his people {Matthew 23:37} so he can't leave their human kings unattended to since they'll be in place until his choice (Jesus) comes, that's why God was guiding the Kings this people demanded not that God was pleased with the idea!

It's God's word (Jesus Christ not me) who said Satan is the overall ruler of the world {John 14:30} and it was evident during the time Satan tempted Jesus, he offered Jesus all the Kingdoms (Governments) of this world. Jesus won't wait a second to refute this claim if Satan is not the brain behind the world's Government! Luke 4:6-8 compare to John 18:36

When Jesus launched his own campaign for rulership he made us know what we will experience in the midst of those under his own rule: there will be LOVE permeating the group of people under Jesus' rule {John 13:34-35} and PEACE will be their watchword! John 14:27

Those under Satan's Government will continue to practice what is written in the Bible book of Galatians 5:19-21 while Jesus' own subjects are experiencing Galatians 5:22-23.

So it's not disputable, if you're a politician today know that what's written in Galatians 5:19-21 will continue to hunt you and those with you, no matter how good you try to be you will continue to sit alongside those PRACTICING Galatians 5:19-21 it's not a CURSE but reality. Psalms 1:1

That's why Jesus and his disciples forbade Politics completely. smiley

Yes. Possible and acceptable. Check the book of Zechariah. Joshua. Check the life of David
. And you want to compare Zechariah, Joshua and David to Nigeria born again Christian? Even Judas is far far better than 97% of Nigeria born again Christian politicians.

I am not supposed to post this here, but pardon me i was tempted to do this

See how Christians threads are peaceful, nobody is diverting away from the topic, everything seemed focused

Come to Muslims thread on Friday and see how Christians will flood the whole place diverting away from the topic of discussion, insulting, abusing and uttering discriminative words to fellow Muslims even in their thread, yet Muslims never pass their boundary

Now nairaland mods create a preventive measure that will stop all these discrimination on this forum by imposing an oath meant for Muslims before commenting. They now start shouting Hypocrisy, if you'd not been disturbing their threads will they try to restrict you.

Please tell me who is the real hypocrite
Re: Can A Genuine Christian Be A Nigerian Politician? by Ellasure: 9:14am On Mar 28, 2021
Except what you mean by Nigerian politics is evil otherwise a good natured Nigerian person can join Nigeriata politics and be successful at it.

The only thing is that he must be ready for the challenges that will come his way. Maturity is required and a very good knowledge of the Bible, the world and other useful historical perspective of governance and people management skills will help.

Our problems in Nigeria is total lack of patience. Honest people abound but impatient and good timelines don't match our desires.

Re: Can A Genuine Christian Be A Nigerian Politician? by labofa1(m): 9:24am On Mar 28, 2021
A genuine Christian can be a politician but in Nigeria it is not possible. Because you have to bow to the powers that be and join the oat taking forms and actually take the oat of allegiance and non disclosure of secrets. And the spirit of lies possess you immidiately so you will never tell the truth again. And the spirit of stealing takes over you and you start to steal. You can not serve God and money. Those early years, some people did politics and were clean. People like Sam mbakwe, Alhaji Jakande who just passed on. But this days, the devil himself is in charge of politics in Nigeria. So no genuine Christian can do politics in Nigeria without soiling your hands.
