Flatin0s Seems yorubatech bros have an opportunity on their hands.....let's develop a smart contract token for these guys. 100sats=1 flatina and issued at birth, it gets liquidated at death of the flatina, potential suitors will buy the coin and the suitor with the highest coin amount gets the flatina, thus driving the price and creating liquidity for sort after flatinas with less yamlegs, suitors who also buy the coin early also get rewarded if they sell at a higher price to other suitors FlatinCoin is the name...... expect my whitepaper soon 1 Like |

bluskyee:This is the problem with idiots who jump into conversations. Did you properly read the comment I replied to before spewing this trash? If your elder brother likes let him use 1 billion to pay bride price ,that's your cup of tea. The bone of contention with the person I replied to was "who started the bride price system" men or women. Next time if you don't have your fact don't blabber in my mentions again. 2 Likes |

pocohantas:Poco, I am a bit disappointed, this is tradition. It was not there because of you or anyone. Your grandfather might have benefited from this setting. You don't see other tribes talk about their culture in disparaging terms. If it is an elder takes all tradition, respect it and move on. I exalt my ancestors and it is pure ignorance to criticise your culture because you think someone else is cashing out 2 Likes |

Ladycewhy: This is incomplete misinformation and a lie. The mother usually have her separate list containing requirements for the marriage including monetary rewards (given to the husband to be) exclusive to the mother alone. The mother's entitlement is for her alone hence the N5000 is an addition. 1 Like |

pocohantas: Haaa! Repercussions ke? How? What if you dont even mention it to them? What about those Igbo families that have long forgotten their roots and simply living their lives within their immediate families? Will the repercussions be diabolical or the family will be considered an outcast? This is really interesting. |

Ladycewhy:there is nothing portraying patriarchy here, this is simply culture, traditions that have stood for centuries..in some tradition women are the ones that benefit in this same scenario..about the Twitter guy, it's quite obvious he is chasing clout... |

Ladycewhy: You can't ask me that because I never asserted that there was any such agreement. Rather the poster I quoted did. In any case, your response is premised on a binary way of looking at things: that it was either men or women who made the agreement and it is not possible that it was both men and women who did so! The question is, who stood to gain? Was it not majorly the girl's parents collectively? |

sisisioge: Which Igbo family do you know that have “forgotten” their roots. Maybe they do exist, but that is because they decided to banish themselves from their roots, not that they forgot. It is doable, but I do not know any reasonable Igbo family that would do that over a marriage list. The repercussion won’t be diabolical, the repercussion would range from insulting your parents that they didn’t allow them benefit from your marriage. Would be worse if your parents have ever partaken in the share of another loot. Worse case scenario, if she dies, they will say they never gave you their daughter to marry. So, they are not even aware you are married to her. What I see some parents do is lift the burden from the SIL and pay themselves or do their best to negotiate. Let them just carry their wahala and go. 4 Likes |

I don't think it's applicable everywhere. At my side, everything is shared according to group or should I say lineage. Divide it by 3, mum gets 1, dad maternal and paternal side gets 1 each, then it's shared amongst all the family members that belong to each group. The only thing that belongs to specific individual are tokens like money for father, mum, the girl to read letter, etc, and the total sum might not be upto 20k sef |

pocohantas:tah, no repercussion. When my sister was married the same so called elders came like a hungry lion. I told my brother in-law to relaxed for me to handle the situation. After enlightening them and asking them some heartfelt questions about how we grew up because we lost our father at a very tender age, they were ashamed of themselves. At the end we gave them three cartoon of beer, one crate of malt, 10 Kola nut, one bottle of 501 and 5000. That was after my mum intervention because I was not ready to give them anything except the ones they will eat there. They never give me any share from their daughter's marriage, why would they share from my sister marriage when they did not contribute a penny for her up bringing? 2 Likes |

bluskyee: So the aim of training my daughters well is for me to be able to cash out during their wedding? Only hungry families would ask for 300k as brideprice, especially when the woman who trained the daughter was only able to get 5k. After eating the 300k they'll still return to fleece on the couple. Guys should be careful of the kind of family they're gonna marry from. 3 Likes |
