Sterope: The fact is that u reason that way because u are a daughter not a son. As a first son, I carry along all my younger ones in every social aspect of Life. Yes, the business is for my father and they av no right or whatsoever to talk to me that we have the same say on family matters, Am a first born for a reason. Imagine my siblings am giving stipend and sending errands will now wake up one day and be telling me rubbish anyway I don't give room for nonchalant attitude from them. I maintain my lane and the respect is there coz I act accordingly as a leader of the house. If actually u are son and u av everything at ur disposal u will understand wat I mean. When that ur younger brother reach some certain age u will understand better. No matter ur proximity to ur father as first child, u can never compare that relationship to first son, it's nothing but undisputable fact. |

You missed the part where I mentioned a brother. He doesn't speak about his brothers the way you do. It seems like you have really nice siblings. Can't be me or my younger siblings! anigbajumo: 1 Like |

oluwaseyi0: If u at3e a guy, then i must say u are one in a million. I cant still fathom that age long segregation of not giving the female child anything. I tell hubby, that one ehh no go happen for this marriage. I love my boy to the moon but 'ihuru' will, every inch goes to each child equally. Its just myopic and to think that majority of the first sons now rely on it and patiently wait for it. Many female child are even the ones that work more with the parents but unfortunately, get nothing |

Sterope: Not that I av a nice siblings, they are young and am playing my roles wisely. No matter how rich ur father is, he can't foot all ur bills. I give them money when they need and provide needed support, non of my younger ones will ask me of money and I will decline, I put myself in position of respect and there's no way they can ridicule me or av loggerhead with me. I care less about my father's other wives except my mum but I carry along all my siblings from different mothers even those that are in boarding schools. When you are in position of a leader, u av no reason to shy away from ur responsibilities. |

oluwaseyi0: The best thing to do is to take legal action instead of taking the law into your hands. We have seen court judgements that cancelled the Igbo inheritance culture and gave inheritance rights to female children and the court judgement had to be enforced because it is from the Supreme Court. That already is excellent precedent. No need to go and kill anyone because of inheritance issue. 1 Like 1 Share |

Babinski:Don't know the date though but it has been abolished in anambra state by the highest court of the state. I think I read it here few months ago. Also, some families just stopped doing that long ago. E.g. the fact that the first son inherit more have been stopped by many families. They just share things equal. No drama, nobody is involved. If it's landed properties. It's collectively owned. Money is paid to everybody's account at the right time whether married daughter in far away kano or zamfara. House maintainace the same way. For the non greedy families anyway. |

wonder233:Oh shut up! Very annoying. Face your front. You non igbo that don't drag property with anybody. There is no place in the world people don't fight over property. Written wills are constantly contended not to talk of unwritten ones. The richer the deceased, the dirtier the fight. Abiola come to mind in Nigeria. 1 Like |

MummyD2020: I'm sorry but not every first child, thou I won't say much about myself here but I will give you one thing I learnt from my grandfather..... He didn't just point to the females and say this is yours but he makes sure that even when his gone that non of his male children will conspire against the females one to manipulate them with one tradition or the other to take away the lands he gave them.... He called the females one behind and collect a little sum of money like 10 Naira .... He told the Male one that he sold the land to their sisters at subsided rate ..... So Automatically the females ones bought the lands so no matter the time flame nobody will come to say she can't come from her husband house and be dragging land in her father's house... At a point my mother's siblings started eyeing her own because she never sell it even 20 yrs after their father died... But they can't succed because my grandfather also collect undisclosed amount from her female children... |

It doesn't entitle you their father's property. You aren't the only one cursed with the luck of being a first child or first som. You could have come as one of those mythical children and prevent your parents from having more kids. It is their inheritance as much as it is yours. You should have equal claim to it. anigbajumo: |
Re: I Watched Helplessly As My Husband’s Siblings Beat Him To Death Over Inheritance by anigbajumo(m): 12:38pm On Apr 24, 2021 |
Sterope: Go back to my comment and read it again, I made a sacrifice for them to see the property today and it's wat I give them that belong to than not that we av equal right. It's totally absurd to say our lastborn and the first born has equal right, that's totally absurd and am sure no parent will ever say or consider that. That's just the fact nothing much, their mother can't even stand in my present to say wat u wrote in your last paragraph. |

Your sacrifice doesn't entitle you still. You ran the business because you could, the business still remains your father's. If your sacrifice included pumping your personal money into the business and other considerations besides being the first son, maybe I would understand. Me I can't imagine running my father's business as the first child-son so that I could be entitled to a larger share of it which I am sure you get paid for. It can't be me and it can't be something I will allow. I can't be your dad's new wife either. anigbajumo: |

Sterope: You are not in my position so u can't understand better, if u are my father's new wife there's limit to ur say as per his property, you come wen everything is Rosy not wen we were struggling, he won't be that daft to share is inheritance equally among his children, not possible and it can't be done anywhere. The last born and the first born can't and never share the same quantity of the inheritance, it's not done anywhere. |
