The problem is 99.99% of Nigerian christians especially the ones on nairaland have made up their mind on what they want to think about Islam. No matter what you say or prove you show have little to no effect. But their is no harm in continuing to try for people who have the true knowledge, persuading skill and patience. The likes of myself have given up on them and whatever, they choose to believe is their cup of tea.

The lessons of a post like this is more for the intolerant Muslims than for the stereotyped Christians. The truth is that so many Muslims today do not believe or follow this sayings of Muhammed. Educate them first and the stereotyped Christians will adjust.

Countless muslims hav spoken against the violence imposed on the ordinary people in parts of the north by Boko haram and their partners in the violence, JTF. In kaduna Sheikh Gumi from the onset openly condemned boko haram and he was nearly killed by two suicide bombers. In Borno many muslims who opposed bh were killed by them. Imams and several other muslims hav condenmed bh and advised federal govt on how to end the violence. Even shehu Sani, the kaduna-based rights activist, had said before that no force on earth can defeat BH and together with OBJ attempted to reach out to BH but were frustrated by GEJ administration. The violence has continued because the FG sees more violence as the only path to peace!!!

It was narrated from ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) that The Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “Whoever kills a mu‘aahid (a non-Muslim living under Muslim rule) will not smell the fragrance of Paradise, although its fragrance may be detected from a distance of forty years.” Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 2995

The best way to build trust is by love. The "annoyingly predictable" just dont trust their "peaceful" counterparts enough, just like we all dont trust our govt.
Show some true luv, build trust and see how it will be with both religions.
The greatest command is LOVE and that is the only language xtians will understand!

The scholars of Islam have underscored five major objectives of the Islamic law based on the noble Quran and the Sunnah of our Prophet Muhammad.

These objectives are the protection and promotion of the following:

1.Religion
2. Life
3. Progeny or family
4. Intellect or mind
5. Property or wealth

your primary purpose of existence is the worship of Allah; from that comes everything including the sanctity of human life. Allah tells us Himself it is sacred(roughly translated):

Do not take life, which God has made sacred, except by right: if anyone is killed wrongfully, We have given authority to the defender of his rights, but he should not be excessive in taking life, for he is already aided [by God]. (Surah 17:33)

Here, Allah declares the sanctity of Human life, and only permits it when a crime such as murder is committed even then the option is given to the family on whether to carry out the punishment. This is in the case of murder...

So how sacred is human life? Allah says in the Quran (roughly translated):

On account of [his deed], We decreed to the Children of Israel that if anyone kills a person– unless in retribution for murder or spreading corruption in the land– it is as if he kills all mankind, while if any saves a life it is as if he saves the lives of all mankind. Our messengers came to them with clear signs, but many of them continued to commit excesses in the land. (Surah 5:32)

Allah relays to us a decree to the previous muslim nation that applies to us. Anyone who kills a person unjustly is as if he has killed the whole of humanity and anyone who saves a life has saved not only that life but the whole of humanity.

This is the weight of taking a person's life unjustly... And this is not only for muslims:

The Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “Whoever kills a mu‘aahid (a non-Muslim living under Muslim rule) will not smell the fragrance of Paradise, although its fragrance may be detected from a distance of forty years.” Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 2995

Anyone who kills non-muslim living in the land of the muslims will not smell the fragrance of pardise...

We are to deal justly and kindly with those who have done nothing to harm us: Allah says

"Allah forbids you not, with regard to those who fight you not for your faith, nor drive you out of your homes, from dealing kindly and justly with them: For Allah loves those who are just" (60:8
)

We are to deal justly and kindly with those that have not harmed us in any way...

So wars do happen, don't they? Whether defensive, preemptive or retaliatory... What are the rules of conflict for the muslim?

Narrated By 'Abdullah : During some of the Ghazawat of the Prophet a woman was found killed. Allah's Apostle disapproved the killing of women and children. (Saheeh Muslim Book 019, Hadith Number 4319).

Then Abu Bakr, the first caliph based on the prophetic teaching advised a military commander, Yazid, "I advise you ten things| Do not kill women or children or an aged, infirm person. Do not cut down fruit-bearing trees. Do not destroy an inhabited place. Do not slaughter sheep or camels except for food. Do not burn bees and do not scatter them. Do not steal from the booty, and do not be cowardly." Maliks Muwatta Book 021, Hadith Number 010.

You are not even allowed to kill animals except for food, nor cut trees

The present life is used to attain the after-life, therefore it is important that a muslim uses what he has been given in this life to attain the success of the hereafter. Islam is all about fulfilling the rights of everyone, Fulfilling the rights of Allah, Fulfilling the rights of the prophet, Fulfilling the rights of of your neighbour, fulfilling the rights of your employer, fulfilling the rights of your parents, fulfilling the rights of your children, fulfilling the rights of your wife, Fulfilling the rights of the animals.

Islam implies that you fulfill all the rights... Allah says in the Quran (roughly translated):

God commands you [people] to return things entrusted to you to their rightful owners, and, if you judge between people, to do so with justice: God’s instructions to you are excellent, for He hears and sees everything. (Surah Nisa:58)

"O ye who believe! stand out firmly for Allah, as witnesses to fair dealing, and let not the hatred of others to you make you swerve to wrong and depart from justice. Be just: that is next to piety: and fear Allah. For Allah is well-acquainted with all that ye do" (5:cool

The watch word for the muslim is Justice even if it is against himself...

A muslim that kills an innocent person will have to face justice with Allah. As regards terrorism, whether it is committed by a state that sends an army or drones to kill innocent people or a group of militants for any ideology. It is deeply frowned upon by Islam. Unfortunately, there are some muslims who have used their anger at the state of the muslims to commit acts that have no historical or scriptural basis in Islam.

Allah allows for Self defence when you are wronged but there are limits that must not be transgressed. Allah says (roughly translated):

There is no cause to act against anyone who defends himself after being wronged, but there is cause to act against those who oppress people and transgress
in the land against all justice– they will have an agonizing torment– (Surah 42: 41-42)

A muslim State can engage in pre-emptive or retaliatory wars as well but this can only happen at a state level

Arysexy: This goes to show that they were persecuting xtians and non-muslims. No smoke without fire! Muhamed can not wake up and start sending letter to the Monks. Possibly the muslims were persecuting them and destroying their places of worship and d monks wrote him before this reply. Still shows the intolerance of muslims even in the era of muhamed.
The letter is not the only of its kind. The position in Islamic law is that non-muslims living in an Islamic state who accept the authority of the state must be protected by the Islamic authorities, including protecting their lives and property and be allowed to practice their religion in all its ramifications. Islam enjoins fairness and justice at all time to everyone. Even in war the rules of warfare in Islam are so humane, u'll be amazed- google it and read.

Give me the refference in the Quran. I an thought not to belive any man by only his but by both his wordr and his action. Jesus talked more on peaceful living and when faced with circumstances to be violent, he prefer to surfer and die. He said he is powerful enough to call down amy of angel to fight, enven Peter one of His desciples brought out sword an defended the noble couse, Jesus rebuked Peter for doing so. But in contrary, Mohammed gave more admonision on peace than any man who both dead or alive, but will take out peace of every community he visited even if they have peace b4.

To imagine that intolerance and subjugating people vanquished was particular to early muslims is to ignore human nature and war strategy. Some victorious groups were very brutal towards people they defeated (especially those who did not surrender on time) to serve as a warning to future opponents. The pains of losing wars was such that the state of Sparta decided to turn itself into a military state such that every spartan male was a soldier and they always prepared for war. The non-spartan people they conquered in war were therefore the artisans

Laws were revealed gradually in Islam. The first converts to Islam did not need to make the 5 daily prayers. That was a later commandment. Similarly alcohol was not forbidden from day 1. Some people who had just embraced Islams were on occasions still behaving the way they used to do prior to their acceptance of Islam. So the people who converted earlier had to explain things to them.

It would be understandable for some people who were used to forcing people they conquered to do whatever they liked to continue that practice after converting to Islam. And the person that was most qualified to bring them to order was the leader of the Muslims whose status and order (as a prophet) could not be contested.

In my opinion, its propaganda or to save face-probably deceit. That's my opinion and I may b wrong.

Boko Haram peeps are not Muslims... They are Criminals dat should be hunted down like Dogs.

They are hiding under Islam to commit crime for whatsoever reason. (Political or otherwise).

You perhaps believe that muslims pray 5 times a day and each time they pray they have the number of times they stand up and prostrate. Can you give me a reference to that in the Qur'an? There are a lot of things enjoined in the Qur'an 9in summary form) that the Prophet (PBUH) explained.

1. I would like to have evidence from wherever that the Prophet (PBUH) attacked people he (PBUH) had treaty with. Please provide it
2. But Moses (PBUH) was a Prophet and he killed a human being. We don't compare prophets (PBUH). It is God who sent them that can judge their actions.

It would be useful if people believe that it is not only the Qur'an that contains all the laws of Islam. Because when something is favourable to Islam in one record, they ask for ahadeeth. If it is in the ahadeeth, they ask for it in the Qur'an

I am to address Muslims and all Christians who are ignorant of the facts of history.
The so called Prophet Muhammad's Letter To The Monks Of St. Catherine Monastery should not be posted out of the context of the history. Please read the following.

[size=18pt]
At the age of nine, Muhammad went to Syria with his uncle and had interactions with Christians. One important contact was with the Nestorian monk Bahira in Bosra, modern Syria who foretold to the adolescent Muhammad his future prophetic career.[1]

Waraqah ibn Nawfal was a Nestorian monk,[2] Mecca's priest or preacher according to some sources.

Meccan period

Waraqah is said to have believed in Muhammad as a prophet, but died as a Christian. After the early Sahaba ("Companions"wink faced intense persecution, Muhammad sent 90 of his followers to Abyssinia. There the Muslims were received by the Christian king Aṣḥama ibn Abjar.

Medinian period

In 630 AD Muhammad received a Christian delegation from Najran in Medina. Debate with Christians ensued some days. Finally the Christians asked Muhammad for peace and he accepted. Muhammad extended the hand of friendship towards them, a treaty was signed and both parties left on friendly terms.

Another Christian delegation this time from Iraq by Jesujab II was heading to Medina but Muhammad died before it arrived.
Byzantines

According to traditional Islamic sources, in 628 Muhammad sent a letter to Heraclius inviting him to Islam. The Byzantine emperor received it while on a pilgrimage in Jerusalem and called upon a person who belonged to Muhammad's tribe Quraysh. According to Sunni tradition, Abu Sufyan ibn Harb came forward and a discussion between them took place.[4] At the end of the discussion the emperor said,

If what you say should be true, he will very soon occupy the earth under my feet, and if I knew that I would reach him definitely, I would go immediately to meet Him; and were I with him, then I would certainly wash his feet.[5]

In 629 according to tradition, Muhammad sent a force of 3,000 men to fight 100,000 Byzantines near Al Karak. The Battle of Mu'tah ended when both sides retreated.

These premonitions of monotheism among the Arabs must have been due mainly to Christian and Jewish influences. The Arabs had many opportunities of contact with Christians and Jews. The Byzantine empire, whose power and higher civilization they greatly admired, was Christian, and so was Abyssinia. Even in the Persian empire Christianity was strong, and al-Hirah, the Persian vassal-state with which the Arabs were much in contact, was an outpost of the East Syrian or Nestorian Church. This combination of monotheism with military and political strength and a higher level of material civilization must have impressed the Arabs greatly. The nomadic tribes and settled communities in closest contact with these states were indeed being gradually Christianized; and even some of the Meccan merchants were not uninfluenced by what they saw when they traveled to the border market-towns on business. There were also Christians in Mecca, traders and slaves,2 but the influence of isolated individuals was probably not so important.

[size=18pt]At the beginning of the 7th century, the Jews looked to the Persians for salvation. Hoping to be permitted to worship freely once the Byzantine oppression had been removed, the Jews encouraged the Persians' conquest of Acre and Jerusalem, and a Jewish community was subsequently allowed to settle and worship in Jerusalem (614-17), though it was later expelled. Under early Arab rule, a Jewish community was reestablished in Jerusalem and flourished in the 8th century. Jews were even among those who guarded the walls of the Dome of the Rock. In return, they were absolved from paying the poll-tax imposed on all non-Muslims. In the 10th and 11th centuries, however, harsh measures were imposed against the Jews by the Fatimids, who seized power in 969. Though the Jewish academy (Yeshiva) of Jerusalem was compelled by Caliph Al-Hakim to reestablish itself in Ramle, entry to Jerusalem was revived by the "Mourners of Zion", Diaspora Jews who did not cease to lament the destruction of the Temple. This movement, which held that "aliyah" -- ascent to the Land -- would hasten the resurrection of Israel, was at its peak in the 9th-11th centuries. Many Jews came from Byzantium and Iraq and established communities.
