Why Is Google Returning Search Enquiry In Hausa Language In Nigeria? by OneTemplate: 10:22am On May 13
Has anyone noticed this and why are Nigerians saying nothing? For a while I have noticed casual search on Google for anything, from inside Nigeria, now returns a page translated in a language I believe to be Hausa.

Always wanted to post about this and get the opinion of others but never had the time.

Strikes me as a dangerous development and I don't believe Google would do this as default unless a deliberate and local 'tweek' is in place to achieve this. Below is an example when I just searched "Adenuga" right now.

Who else is getting this and what is your opinion considering Nigeria has over 300 ethnic groups meaning the safest bet should always be English and juxtaposed with the current suspicion of a Northern expansionist agenda?

Why on earth should Google present search in Nigeria in Hausa as default when this was not the case in the past? IT and techie guys, why the 'migration'?

Change language

Did not specify a change of language though. Seems odd and the sort of thing to ignore ordinarily but with the likes of Pantami in charge it is the worst option that comes to mind immediately.

Stop trying to be unfortunate. You must have selected that option mistakenly on their home page before searching (see attached)

You are the one who is unfortunate and likely a Northerner. It is an observation I made without deselecting English as default in Google

Says a lot about Nigeria we now automatically consider the worst option before anything else.

With an Islamic fundamentalist and Christian hater as ICT Minister, when same chap has pledged readiness to lead Jihad against Christians in the North, then nothing seems impossible.

Regardless, it should not be Nigeria's default language and I would not have thought anyone would be capable of making it such before we began gaining Islamic extremists and fundamentalists in influential and key positions of Nigerian leadership.

Now, with good and proven reasons, many Southerners today believe there is an Islamic caliphate expansionist agenda going on under Buhari. It is not good for the mental health of Nigerians

Yes that's possible and probable

Nevertheless, nothing wrong in having a native lingua Franca

The English Language we adopted today is not even indigenous to Africa

Totally Agree with you. Yet it must be by consultation and not by stealth as we see a lot of things to be under this Buhari and Fulani government.

Was discussing with some friends a few days ago (Igbos, Yorubas, Edo and Urhobo) and we wondered why it is so difficult for educated and historically lawful Southern Nigerians to get a pump action firearm, the only one Nigerian firearm laws allow ciitiizens to own, through the official channel.

Yet, in the same nation, many illiterate, nomadic and perhaps psychopathic Fulanis somehow qualify to go around with AK47 assault rifles in public view.

Yes o

Northerners often go around with daggers or machetes

Sometimes both, especially Herdsmen

But I have seen a Yoruba carpenter and his apprentice arrested because they had hammer and chisel on them

Marginalisation!!!

This is why we need referendum.

The supremacist region have internationalized their tribal lording by changing search engines on google to their local language.

We won't take this!!! English is our lingua franca.

Restructuring/referendum or nothing!!!

Oooh so now any one who shares a divergent views with you is now a northerner and yet you're claiming you're not trying to be unfortunate? Interesting cheesy

Go and ready about Geo-IP or Geo-location to understand that sometimes websites deliver contents to you based on where your IP Address is located or country you are from. Not everytime you blame it on Pantami ...I'm not even a fan of his or like him and don't give a f@ck what he may have ranted in the present or past.

Try and be open minded and learn something.

Lol. Perhaps you should take your own advice and "try get some sense".

Tell us if Igbos and ESN members are busy brandishing AK47s or even pump action weapons openly across the entire nation as Fulanis are supported to do , with impunity, by our armed forces.

You want to pretend not to know that it is those who report Fulani criminality who end up in jail rather than the Fulani perpetrators in Nigeria today?

If you're a Southerner then obvious people like you will see many of us butchered while we sleep.

Just laughing till now about your naive question when you ask whether "police are not doing their best to mop up illegal arms".

You must live in the diaspora or on Mars and not Nigeria.

Okay. Assuming you're a reasonable person why are you so angry with that poster especially when he/she made points we can all support?

All Southern Governors just met and they agreed on ban of open grazing and backed the convocation of an urgent national conference to realise the immediate restructuring of Nigeria as that poster backed.

We atrack our leaders for being traitors who never 'move' for us. Now they have. Let us all now do our bit, with people power no government can subdue forever, to back them and insist on the restructuring of Nigeria ASAP.

We must force restructuring now , like #EndSARS, since we have the political support of all our Governors to move for it.

I'm not angry at him though, my only grouse is trying to ascribe everything or anything that's abnormal to either politics or religious conspiracy theories without caring to find out the truth of why it happened.

I'm not against restructuring or whatever the people are agitating for but wonder why they've never held accountable the people elected within their locale to govern them. We've seen state governors ignoring the plights of the people and engaging in frivolous projects without meaningful impact to the people yet the same governors are shouting marginalization ....who is marginalizing who here?

National conference or whatever should start with local conference (people in the grassroot to decide what their fate should be), next move on to the state level before the national one. We as a people have not accepted tribesmen with different dialect as ours yet we want to question how the entire country should relate? Abeg you sef check am naaau

Your governors are the cause of the issues being faced. They alone know how to end it if they want to but their political greed will not allow them to.

Your ignorance is amazing.
1. Hausa is the most widely spoken language in Nigeria and West Africa, so naturally, once you switch from English its supposed to take you to the next most widely spoken language. Its nothing political or religious
2. Hausa language has absolutely nothing to do with Islam. If you said Arabic we may consider.
3. The Hausa are actually victims of oppression from Fulanis. Note Hausa amd Fulani speak different languages
4. No be everything be politics and religion, if you took your time to learn how to use a smart phone instead of thinking thrash you won't have a problem with settings. Or don't you wondee why you are the only one with the problem
