This post reminded me of my first job post NYSC in 2016. It was at a building construction coy on the island.
No medical insurance nor pension nor 13th month salary.
If you fall sick, you had to call the Boss before 7am to report your reason for not going to work (serious offence, if you don't ) . We spent our money to treat our illhealth , even if its a surgery or your wife delivery.
No allowances or whatsoever.
We work 26days a month, sometimes we work on Sundays too (7.30 am -8pm, Saturdays 8am -9pm).
We got 1week leave every December to resume in first week of January.
Salary delay for almost 2months before you get paid. I spent close to 3years at that company. Imagine the suffering we were subjected to on 45k salary, commuting from Mainland to island daily. I had colleagues who lived as far as Ibafo, ikorodu & Egbeda.
There were times, the QS & i used our savings to run office projects, in order to speed up site work (we were paid back tho).
No Christmas or Salah merriment ( foodstuffs). We were on our own.
I left that job in January 2019.
