In Africa, it has to do with ignorance really. There are plenty of females with "Delilah" for a name elsewhere who share nothing in common with the biblical dame of the same name. undecided

When you born name her Delilah, let's breathe.

The New Testament was written in Greek

Judas is just a Greek form of the Hebrew name Jude or Judah

The same is true of "Jesus"
Many Africans just follow the imported religion without a clue of its history

The bible which you read in English was not written in English and most names have been anglicized.
"Jesus" would not have been called "Jesus" by any of his contemporaries. That is not the original form of his name .
Rather it is Yeshua

Mistake? The thesaurus clearly tells you that the word "Delicate" and "feeble" are synonyms, and you are still yapping on about what again? undecided

Please go waste someone else's time with this ridiculousness ojare! undecided
Let me quickly add that that a word is synonymous with another word does not mean the same as that word. Not all synonymous word can replace their counterparts in a sentence. In different contexts synonymous words mean different things.
In my high school English tests and exams, the instruction about synonyms for sentences is usually **Replace with a word that means the same thing (synonym) and can replace the word in the sentence**
This is different from **replace with the synonym**

Although your claim that Delilah can mean delicate might be correct but might be wrong to say it means same as feeble.

The best meaning of Delilah I got is from Hebrew origin.

From an obscure Hebrew word often said to mean "delightful, seductive".....Wikitionary

Hebrews 12:12

how funny will it sound if you replace the word FEEBLE in these verses with the word DELICATE . Feeble simply means weak. lacking strength.

You know nothing about the English language.

The names we give our children matters a lot.
Names have a serious part to play in our lives as an individual. So choose a good name for your children

What has synonyms got to do with names??

The Bible was not written in English

Delilah is an Anglicized form

"Delilah" the character in the Bible WAS NOT HEBREW she was a "Philistine"> We know that the Hebrews and Philistines were neighbours and they could communicate.
The Hebrew language was always under pressure from its neighbours and became extinct gradually
Jesus did not speak Hebrew. He spoke Aramaic. So we know that many Semites share a lot of manes in common but may have pronounced them differently e.g Yousef, Moshe, Abraham , Sulayman etc

in English you're right. But the word delicate doesn't go with the bible verse. there are bonle dictionaries nah. thats my point. we use bible materials to study. because the scholars consult with original language.

even the original laguage of the bibles do have synonyms that may not agree with a verse because of the context.

Delilah means Delicate.. You sound as though her parents named
her feeble for the sole purpose of encountering Samson. The act accured after she had been born and named..

Can you drop the bible verse that mentions of Delilah as Philistine. She was from Sorek which was not a Philistine town.

Delicate means breakable easily broken..feeble mean"WEAK. no.strenght

a plate is strong but delicate . but it is not weak.

but a feeble person refers to weak in strenght

read the verses i posted in other translations

Hebrews 12:12 KJV
12 Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees

Hebrews 12:12 (NLT)
12 So take a new grip with your tired hands and strengthen your weak knees
.

Very funny. That's all you know of the meaning of delicate. My wife is a very delicate woman..
After the surgery my once hardworking wife has become delicate.
Tell me how breakable she is from those sentences

I know a pretty Delilah. The last I heard of her she slept with her best friend's husband on their wedding night birthing triplets nine months later..

That said girls with other names have done worse. A neighbour called Ruth killed her husband with acid. Yet the biblical Ruth was a virtuous woman.

Delilah means delicate in both Hebrew and Arabic. Once a not very popular name because of the biblical character Delilah many parents now look pass the biblical stigma. In the US it has griown to become one of the top names starting with D.

Off record Anini wasn't named Barnabas yet the difference between him and a rat was the position of the tail.. Upbringing and environment affect people more than the names the bear. Many people called Jesus in Southern America dont know the name of the first book of the Bible..

There are people named after Jesus, Peter, Moses, Mary, Elizabeth, Deborah that are committing different atrocities here and there. Upbringing and environment is what matters. Even animals are named after humans, it doesn't change the animal to a man.

LAME

She LIVED in the valley of Sorek when he fell in love with her is all that we can get from that verse

It does not say where she is FROM
On what basis do you conclude it was not Philistine ? Was it Hebrew?

The Valley of Sorek was a border/boundary between Israel and Philistines.
As we know from the bible the Hebrew were always fighting the Philistines and they would lose and gain territory in several wars

The only thing we know is Delilah lived there when Samson fell in love with her

Words can be synonymous but can't give u exact meaning in the same context.

Feeble and delicate are two different thing contextually.

A feeble person could be seen as been lazy, weak

Delicate person could mean person u cherish so much. Hence u handle or treat them with so much care and attention cos they are special and not. In igbo u can call ur wife or girlfriend 'akwa ugo' like eagle's egg. Showing she's precious and should be pampered.

Yet you labelled her Philistine despite knowing the bible didn't say where came from. If she was Philistine then the Philistine elders wouldn't need to pay her a bribe to get Samsung's secret. Afterall it would have been service to her people.

That said the bible didn't say she was Philistine so don't call her Philistine..
