|Re: Google Pixel Discussion Thread by Betnomore: 8:41am On Nov 02, 2021
I've been a pixel fan ever since the first time I used a Pixel 2xl and still rocking a 4XL presently but I'm still not convinced with Google's tensor chip. Why have a custom chip when it can't perform basic custom features. Qualcomm's high end Snapdragon chip will easily perform all the functions in the Pixel 6 and 6 pro. With the Tensor chip, we are not getting at least 5 years of software update compared to the iPhones. Regarding security, it's not as secured as Apple's iCloud security feature of not being able to wipe the phone clean without the password. Battery life is not stellar. I'm yet to actually see what the Tensor chip does that a high end Snapdragon chip can't do. With this tensor chip, I was expecting a lot more knowong what the previous pixel devices could achieve without a custom chip. Photos and videos should be killing the competition right now but it's not. I just feel there is nothing special in Tensor chip. The question now is WHAT DOES TENSOR CHIP DO?

Google and youtube will help you answer this sir.
|Re: Google Pixel Discussion Thread by Betnomore: 8:58pm On Nov 02, 2021
It's obvious you know little to nothing about the phone. It's only Dave2d that said d truth about the pixel 6 and 6 pro. All other YouTubers were just sugar coating their reviews.
|Re: Google Pixel Discussion Thread by Auskyd(m): 11:45pm On Nov 02, 2021
Wetin me and you dey drag abeg? Choke on reviews all your want. Wetin be my own? You asked a question about a chip and I asked you to go to Google and do your research and you're hearing mouthing rubbish? With the old pixels you dey use? Lmfao. Pixel 2 and pixel 4xl Really? Baba rest. Dave2d Ko, Davido ni.
|Re: Google Pixel Discussion Thread by Betnomore: 3:56am On Nov 03, 2021
Its obvious you're pained and bitter. To understand simple English na big problem for you. Why hating on me using a old pixel device? Which one u dey use?
|Re: Google Pixel Discussion Thread by Auskyd(m): 8:59am On Nov 03, 2021
Pixel na my secondary device. Not my main. My main go buy 2 of your 4xl with spare change. English Teacher lmao.

E dey possible to get those latest Pixels in Naija?
|Re: Google Pixel Discussion Thread by melodyogonna(m): 2:51pm On Nov 03, 2021
Betnomore:Snapdragon won't easily perform those functionalities boss. The Tensor chip is running Google's AI and ML models, the chip has to be specifically designed to handle those efficiently, plus it contains special hardware for it.
|Re: Google Pixel Discussion Thread by Betnomore: 2:54pm On Nov 03, 2021
I have replied gchux1 on this issue. Google markets the tensor chip to be great on AI and ML. Please give one real life scenario where this has worked. It might work as Google as envisaged in the future but right now is not more than a gimmick just the same way they marketed the Soli Radar system on Pixel 4XL. I'm not hating on the he pixel 6 phones rather I'm just disappointed in it cos I had high expectations for it. Maybe the next generation of Tensor chip will win me over but definitely not this one. Still a pixel lover though
|Re: Google Pixel Discussion Thread by Auskyd(m): 3:03pm On Nov 03, 2021
Disappointed in a phone you haven't had the chance to use Lmao nawa
|Re: Google Pixel Discussion Thread by melodyogonna(m): 3:20pm On Nov 03, 2021
Betnomore:It is working on the speech to text and live translation. The models are running locally on the phone without need to contact google's servers. It's also being used for HDR video recording but I'm not sure that has been properly optimized, a lot of those AI functions still needs optimizations but this is the first gen so it'll get better.
|Re: Google Pixel Discussion Thread by Betnomore: 3:23pm On Nov 03, 2021
Bro I'll appreciate if you no put mouth for my matter as u have nothing positive to contribute.
|Re: Google Pixel Discussion Thread by Betnomore: 3:25pm On Nov 03, 2021
I get all you said. Now, the question is IS IT IMPOSSIBLE FOR A HIGH
END SNAPDRAGON CHIP TO PERFORM THIS BASIC AI AND ML FUNCTIONS?
|Re: Google Pixel Discussion Thread by melodyogonna(m): 3:53pm On Nov 03, 2021
Betnomore:They're not basic AI functions otherwise everyone would be doing it. And yes it's impossible for other chips to perform the same way. Google has years of experience building chips focused on running AI models efficiently, for their cloud platform. it's why they're able to do this.
|Re: Google Pixel Discussion Thread by Betnomore: 4:40pm On Nov 03, 2021
It's because google has the software capable of handling it efficiently. The software department is where Google trump other android phone manufacturers. Just for example, when google started with computational photography, it destroyed the competition. Now almost everybody is catching up. For Google to have done that using the same sensor from Pixel 2 to pixel 5, one should expect that the pixel 6 with new sensor should destroy the market when it comes to photography. But hell NO. It's still on par with its competitors (APPLE & SAMSUNG). That is why I'm not impressed with Google. They have a better hardware now and one should expect better result but it's like the hardware doesn't matter at all when it comes to Google software. Therefore, a high end Snapdragon chip will still perform the same AI and ML functions the tensor chip. I just see this Tensor chip as just another Kirin chip (which is a good chip though)

Zero use of the new pixel device, yet you are an authority on it. Lmao. Delusion no dey pass like this.
|Re: Google Pixel Discussion Thread by melodyogonna(m): 5:36pm On Nov 03, 2021
Betnomore:Lol, how much better do you think photography can still get? The innovation on that part of mobile computing is done. Google is focusing more on ambient computing, where your device has learned and adapted itself to your needs, and can easily predict what you might want anytime you pick it up and tries to have it available to you before you ask/ search. The advanced speech to text is just a practical way to showoff what the chip can do, how powerful it is. Their main aim is a more subtle computing with the phone getting more intelligent the more time you use it. So it identifies the sort of music you like in the background, sorts your notifications properly, identify people you love having in your photography shots, maybe integrate with Youtube and Youtube music for better recommendations there, etc. Google pixels are very good at software and user experience, this is going to take it to an even more advanced level.
|Re: Google Pixel Discussion Thread by Betnomore: 6:07pm On Nov 03, 2021
I quite get you. Only time will tell. Thanks for the insight. One must use the phone for quite a while to truly see the AI and ML functions properly. Let's give it time. One point I want to argue is that innovation on photography is not done. For example, Google marketed by the magic eraser function as something only perculiar to the the power of the tensor chip. Now with the help of certain programmers, it's now obvious the magic eraser can basically work on any good phone from android 11 upwards. All I'm saying is that Tech companies do lie and some of the functions dey claim their product offer is sometimes not true and just a gimmick to boost sales.
|Re: Google Pixel Discussion Thread by melodyogonna(m): 7:01pm On Nov 03, 2021
Betnomore:The magic eraser or similar was already available on Samsung phones, that is not an innovation. What they did with HDR and computational photography though? That is game-changing. Those smart filters doesn't necessarily define innovation. I'm looking to see what they could do with mobile videos, any new smartphone can take a pretty good photo in the daytime. Night shots and videos are where hardware quality and software optimization kicks.
In this case Google doesn't actually lie. If you're a software person you would know Google is the leading company in AI and ML. They have the technical expertise, and the data very few companies in the world (if any, maybe Facebook comes close, or Apple if they start collecting user data) has access to. They're going to redefine what a smartphone is, you'll see.
|Re: Google Pixel Discussion Thread by Auskyd(m): 7:25pm On Nov 03, 2021
My man you no try at all. You dey follow person wey no even try use the pixel 5a or pixel 5 drag matter. Just pixel 4XL, and pixel 2 with plenty hours of YouTube from reviewers that thrive on finding negative reviews on devices.
Lmao this life no balance Kobo.
|Re: Google Pixel Discussion Thread by Betnomore: 7:31pm On Nov 03, 2021
Check the bolded in your statement. It has always been about software for google and not the hardware. Having tensor chip won't drastically improve their AI and ML functions. It will surely improve AI and ML functions but not mind blowing results. Having a bigger sensor camera has not drastically improved photography or video. The video aspect is even worse compared to Apple products. It has always been software for Google and not hardware Google strength lies in their software. They have never been a hardware company. They are just venturing into it. That is why I'm not buying into the Tensor chip hype. I feel with better hardware, the results we should get from their outstanding software should be phenomenon.
|Re: Google Pixel Discussion Thread by melodyogonna(m): 8:15pm On Nov 03, 2021
Betnomore:Nah. Like I said, they already have experienced building hardware that make running AI models very efficient, for (on?) their cloud platform. Check https://cloud.google.com/tpu/docs/tpus
|Re: Google Pixel Discussion Thread by Betnomore: 8:29pm On Nov 03, 2021
I'm not disputing all you said but let me burst your bubble. The Soli Radar system in Pixel 4XL was marketed as a game changing feature but it's quite unfortunate it didn't work out and it's no longer supported. I was expecting with this Customer Tensor chip, they would bring back the Soli Radar system since they have their own custom chip and it will be easier for them to perfect the technology. Most people would argue back then that it was a brilliant feature just as we are arguing now. But we can all see that it was nothing but a gimmick as it didn't quite achieve what it was meant to do. Another example is Google Stadia. I watched the launch event on YouTube. Tech enthusiasts and gamers were going wild and even some where saying it could be the end of console gaming as Google presented Stadia on a way you would think all is well as they have several data centres in the world. But please tell me where stadia is today. It's nothing worth mentioning. It could be better in the future but as at right now, it's not worth a single penny subscription. Same thing I'm trying to point out to you regarding AI and ML Google is pushing out with their Tensor chip. On paper, everything looks good but it's yet to be realised in real life scenarios. With time it could get better or just be one of many Google's failed project.

Abeg you guys should share numbers and continue this una discussion on WhatsApp.
Don't spam out thread with irrelevant information furled by YouTube instead of actual user experience. Abeg.
We are focused on user experience here. Check what they do on other threads. Abeg.
Talk about the phones you're using and your experience. Don't come here and do Dave2d and DaveHF for us here Biko.
If this spamming continues, I'll report you guys.

Still enjoying my Google Pixel 4a, dont talk shit of what you have never had, seen or buy.
The Google Pixel 6/6pro killed it, but definitely has its own flaws as well.
The new chip on pixel 6/6pro beats the Snapdragon 888, while the Bionic 15 on iPhone 13pro beats the Google Pixel chip and Snapdragon 888.
I will definitely wait for the next tensor chip of the Google Pixel device, because there will be more improvement in the next and I dont like the design of the Pixel 6/6pro.

Bro I need to buy you a beer for this!! Person never use phone, e watch reviews from people the literally make money from providing dissenting views about devices, then come and start mouthing rubbish here.
Using a pixel 4 that probably has one last update and is riddled with so many deficiencies to rate what's new with the company. Rubbish.
|Re: Google Pixel Discussion Thread by Playermayweda(m): 4:17pm On Nov 05, 2021
Pixel 6 tensor Chip kills the SD 888 in Gpu performance, and with software updates directly from Google it has the potential to the the best phone in the near future
