The international break will take up to 2wks of the 3. Apart from tomorrow, there will be no liga or cl action until 15th, when we 'll be at home to Racing and later at home to Viktoria Plzên in the midweek.
We'll be fine at least with Iniesta expected to make a full return by then. Thiago is expected to fill in,though.

So sad. Just read the news on goal.com and was hoping to share it with y'all. Anyway, we may not rue the injury as the timing seem perfect for fall. We wish him a speedy recovery. His goood form has been handy for the team.

Roma 3 Atalanta 1.
Back to back wins for Luis Enrique's Roma. This will definitely help ease the pressure on him.
Great to see Bojan in action for them and scoring as well. Great finish to open scoring today.

Well, at least he banged in 5 goals before picking up a knock. We're okay with that.

@Topic, we finally picked up our first 3 away points this season. Leaders, at least for now.
The good thing is, we have a lot of injured players that will rest over this blasted International break. A bit worried about the central defenders, but hopefully they will be back by the time the international break is over.
Re: Fc Barcelona Fan Thread: "més Que Un Club" by Stealthy(m): 12:00am On Oct 03, 2011
A good win for us today. Gijon did well, making life tough for our attackers, with ex-Barca (and hopefully returnee next summer) Botia doing well once again. It was a tough win, but I'm ok with that - we can't expect manitas every game and Gijon away is hardly a walk-over.

Good thing is that we're now top of the table and some of the injured guys can use the international break to recuperate.

I'm happy for Bojan - hope this is the first of many goals for Roma.

I was hoping Espanyol would do Barca a neighbourly favour by making life difficult for madrid, but it was 0-4 to Madrid eventually. Mou's boys are looking more dangerous than ever, but we can still retain our tile.

Overall, La Liga is looking a bit better this season (I know it's still early days), with Malaga in the mix & Valencia doing their best to compete with their limited resources. Hopefully Barca & Real won't end the season with ridiculous points this season, leaving everyone else far behind.

Welcome back Stealthy.

By the way, Abidal picked up yet another hamstring embarassed

Luckily it's a short one, and he'll be out for 10 days max. Which sort of rules him out of the Internationals grin

Thanks man. I've had a very busy few months and I've watched only a handful of our games so far this season, catching the rest of the action on highlights shows.

Yet another injury, but fortunately there are returnees as well so we've not been hit too hard. Also, the team is more rounded this season with Alexis, Thiago & Fab so injuries to key players (eg Iniesta) don't affect our team as much,

Stealthy, welcome back!

It is a good thing to see us successfully protect a lead for so long a time in a match. Previously, we would have thrown away such lead having being frustrated from not scoring a 2nd. For me that is big positive we can take from the match.

OT: Shameless Marca awarded shameless Mou with the best laliga coach award and he accepted ahead of Pep that gave him a round beating of his life.

My brother, I won't be worried abt the award If I were u. Nobody takes such award seriously. Marca is a Madrid based newspaper and its a case of favouring their own, but the wholeworld knows better. grin

One goal + one assist for Messi as Argentina beat Chile 4-1.
Xavi also made an assist in Spain's 2-0 win against Czech rep.

Barcelona B drew 2-2 away at Alcocorn. Rafa Alcantara and Cuenca got the goals.
I'm not surprised Barca B are struggling. One win from 7 games and they are 19th on the log.
They lost Nolito to Benfica in the summer. Romeu to Chelsea. Thiago and Fontas were promoted to the first team. Soriano are Bartra are sidelined and the coach, Luis Enrique, joined Roma.
New signings, Rodri and Kiko are still trying to adapt and settle in.

Thanks for the update medjai.

Barca B is definitely weaker, especially without the attacking combo of Nolito & Soriano. I would have liked to see more of Soriano as he was very good in preseason before he got injured.

To add to to losing players they also lost the coach.

But the worst move for me was Romeu. How could he have joined Chelsea of all clubs? Arsenal would have been a much better proposition as Wenger uses his youth (though we don't really want any Barca player doing a buy-back deal in Arsenal). But he could also have gone to some mid-table club in Spain. In Chelsea, he doesn't even get on the subs bench.

Totally agree with you on Romeu. He has only featured in one cup match so far.
I wish we had kept Nolito though. He has since scored 8 goals in all competitions since joining Benfica.

How so? Chelsea isn't known for developing young players.

TWISTING THE TRUTH – Bojan, Barça and media manipulation
With the international break in full swing, journalists in Spain (and indeed abroad) are struggling to find much to write about when it comes to La Liga.

This week, a new TV3 documentary on the life of Bojan Krkic in Rome arrived at a perfect time for such idle hands.

The headlines that soon followed were typically sensationalist, as has been the case for much of the stories surrounding the young striker this year.

The theme was anger: anger on behalf of Bojan, who if we believe what the papers are trying to lead us to believe, hates Guardiola for the way he was treated towards the end of his time at Barça.

The biggest dagger of them all is the quote (taken out of context) that “if Guardiola called me tomorrow and asked me to return to Barça, I would say no.”

Let us dispel such manipulation of words before it grows out of hand.

Some journalists believe their job is to use words in whatever way they see fit in order to create a good story.

On the contrary, I think a good story comes from the quality of the words (and indeed your own as a journalist), but not from altering their meaning. Journalism is to report, inform and entertain, but not to modify.

Having watched the documentary (which, by the way, is truly excellent and much better than such misuse of its words would imply), I can categorically tell you that Bojan never said these things.

First, here’s the background. TV3 spent a few days with Bojan in Roma, where they were shown around his new apartment, met his parents, and went on a typical tourist bus tour around the city with the young forward.

The journalist presenting the program is on record, in front of the camera, as saying that he did not wish to ask Bojan any questions about Guardiola or his departure until the time was right, so not to upset the young man.

On the final day, the time arrived.

First, Bojan divulged some information on how he felt in his final days at Barça. He notes that a combination of injuries and not training well due to a lack of happiness became a vicious circle, where he no longer wanted to go to training in the morning.

Krkic quite obviously highlights this as a bad thing on his own behalf, due to his own lack of self-confidence; never once suggesting it was a consequence of Guardiola or his actions.

The next part is the most crucial and, indeed, has turned out to be the most manipulated.

Bojan then told the journalist that, in the end, he did not feel Guardiola was confident in his abilities. Krkic said that his friends and family told him to speak to Guardiola, and so he tried.

The problem was, despite (or perhaps because of) his inner turmoil, every time he spoke to Pep he just couldn’t produce the words he wanted to, as to explain his situation adequately to the coach.

Bojan quite clearly (and indeed, repeats several times here to clarify) admits that this was his own fault, and not Guardiola’s.

The sense of regret here is not for Pep’s actions but rather Bojan’s own inaction.

Soon after, Bojan moves on to the other main source of misquotation in the piece.

When asked by the journalist if, hypothetically, Guardiola was to call tomorrow and ask him to return to Barça, Bojan replies: “Right now, no”.

That’s “right now”, with the emphasis provided by the player.

Not “no, never” or “absolutely not” as the press might lead us to believe.

Bojan then elaborates, explaining that he wants to have a year of continuity in football, improve his playing, and get game time, after which he will consider his options.

As to not close any doors however, he finally adds (and this is an important point to note) that “you never know what can happen in football, however”.

To sum up then, Bojan not only admitted his own role in his lack of game time at Barça last year, but also tried to reinforce his desire to undo this by working hard at Roma before returning to Catalunya.

How this has been manipulated to mean “Guardiola doesn’t like me, and I don’t like him” by the media is beyond me.

It’s a shame that such a well-made and honest documentary, that clearly avoided sensationalism and attempted gave the player a platform on which to express himself fully has now become the source of some terrible journalism.

Be careful what you read, folks, and remember who’s writing it.

Messi scores his 195th goal for Barcelona.
He's now Barcelona's all time 2nd highest goal scorer.
Re: Fc Barcelona Fan Thread: "més Que Un Club" by AjanleKoko: 1:59am On Oct 16, 2011
All round, a subdued performance, compared to what we're used to. Now Barcelona have scored 21 goals at home this season, in just 4 games, and conceded none shocked

Though I could still see the effects of the International. This game could have easily been a 5-0, 4-0 in the first half, Villa rounding the keeper but not scoring, as well as Puyol missing an empty net. A very good showing nonetheless.

Pique out with a hamstring (again! embarassed), for 3 matchdays, including a CL game.
Re: Fc Barcelona Fan Thread: "més Que Un Club" by medjai(m): 12:01pm On Oct 16, 2011
We didn't really hit the heights but it's good we got the 3 pts, especially at a time when we usually struggle.
I was surprised with the line-up. I was expecting Pep to rest the very key players as we have a lot of games coming up in the next couple of days - 5 matches in 12 days starting with the CL game against Viktoria Pizen.
Too bad Pique pulled his hammy but we'll be fine with Masch.
