Pablo Escobar was a self-serving sociopath that killed over 3000 people, but Narcos painted him as a sympathetic figure, and goes further to paint drug cartels as robin fucking_ hoods. It depicted the sicarios as stouthhearted commandos that take no shit from anybody. It didn't stop there... It engendered an illusion of a corrupt and drug ridden Colombia, but Colombia was never really that, as any Colombian would tell you. It also depicted cocaine as an elite drug, etc, etc, etc.

Don't underestimate the influence these kind of shows have on popular culture. Recently in Mexico, a drug cartel outgunned the Mexican military in a gunfight - something that has never happened in the history of Mexico... where did you think they got the idea from? Narcos edified viewers that drug cartels have the potential to build their own private army by tapping into their tremendous resources, and this is exactly what Mexican drug cartel did. They presently wield a sophisticated fire power that not even Mexican army could match.

The HBOs, Netflixes and the rest of the entertainment piranhas don't care about the damage narcotics-based/fraud shows have on the impressionable populace, they just want profit, and if glorifying the vices of a nation will give them that money, then so be it. It's not right, that's what I'm trying to verbally express.

While I personally understand the message they are trying to pass in the documentary I can tell you somethings in the movie are bloody lies!!

They criminalise some things that's legal and perfectly made some illegal actions legal.
They also made tax avoidance looks like a piece of cake..

Making series about Nigerian fraudulent activities will only put the country in more bad image, new fraudster wont be born because of it

I watched the footage too. The Mexican military and the Mexico drug cartel negotiated a cease fire - the release of captured, El Chapo's (Mexican cartel leader) youngest son. Bottom line, Mexican military were involuntarily coerced to surrender, so as to avoid further bloodshed. They got their asses handed to them by the better armed druggies, basically.

I disagree with the bolded, but apart from that, we're saying the same thing... well, not entirely. I mean, I'm partial to true crime TV shows myself, and I don't share some of your conspiratorial outlook, but I agree with the gist of what you said at it's most basic form.

People saw all the flossing in wolf of Wall Street, and none of the consequences. Back in the day, rather than see Boyz n hood /menace 2 society as movies about the desperation of life in the ghetto, we picked all the nigga, hoe, and hood mentality.

It's easy to overlook the real message if/when it's nuanced. When actors are floating around in Lambos, flashing their pistols, doing drugs, and pistol-whipping homies, you will forgive the average non-discerning mind for overlooking (understandably) the tacit message drowning in the dross. We see what we wanna see, unless, they want us to see what they want us to see.
