Dim_kyky: Ofcox sweerie, you can be a very good programmer!  Even sef the object oriented approach to programming just makes life all fun. See programming as dealing with objects in the real life.  Behind every successful female programmer there's a guy like me who's chest she can always lay on when the bugs get crazy.  You got almost all it takes. You have the will, the tools, the focus and what's left is the guy like me. Oh well you got me now so its all complete  So erm. . . where do we start from dearie? @Dual Core and DHTML:Programming Pervs, hey Donpuzo is missing @OP Why not afterall in the dictionary a Programmer is defined as "Someone", it didn't say a Guy. anyway there are female programmers,the former Organization i worked in,this ASP.NET was having issues with some codes he showed me by then i was using only PHP, so i told me sorry bro i can't help out.and he said he'll show his wife,naturally i burst into laughter till he had that straight face his wife too is a programmer a .NET Coder.apparently they used to work together till she left for another company. True Story. |

Sure a woman can be an excellent programmer and i think there are female programmer on this site maybe when they get online and see your post they will respond to you and give you some encouragement but the truth is that there is no differences between a male and female on this issue and you have one vital ingredient to start out:"i love it so much"(your words).So just get going and if you need assistances simply post it and trust me, you will get all the humanly possibly assistances from the good guys and ladies in this forum.However you should post straight programming questions on the programming section of this site and web based question on this section for optimal response from programmers.I wish you well. |

Of course you can be a very good programmer. But you'll have to fight harder to be recognized as one. If you truly love it then the sky is your limit. You can give yourself an advantage by using the very best tools. |

I've had two or three female programmers contribute one or two things to palness.com and i can assure you they're great. As long as you'll find joy coding, why not? There's really no difference between male and female programmers. |

Females have been scientifically proven to be more intelligent than males. Programming involves logic, which is a man's thing but if a female works at i.t she becomes a guru cos it always interest females when they learn logic. Remember what you are learning will be academic while a man's natural logic is crude. I have over 20 years in IT and much of that time is spent programming. Talking from my experience, just put your mind to it. Once you are able to scale the initial hurdle of logical manipulations and perculiarities of various programming languages, you will become the best. I'll also like to warn you that it is addictive. My 2 cents. |

Dim_kyky: My younger sister studied software engineering and got a job quicker than her male mates that graduated (only 2 females graduated in her class) I also work in an IT environment and there are a few ladies in the team and they are very good at what they do. A female computer programmer will have the same opportunities as a male computer programmer i.e Discrimination does exist in IT. If you are good @ what you do, you will have no problem getting a job quick |

sisqology:she needs serious flogging @talk2hb1, i dont use any stimulant, and on days when i have loads of work, i can code for 16 hours at a stretch without getting up to even eat - and on the average, i sleep for not up to 6 hours, and not up to 8 hours on days that i am completely worn out. I am like that naturally before i started programming - restlessness is my second nature. But i had to drop out of so many social / sport activities over tyme = used to play chess, table tennis, football, karate club, video game (ave u guys seen darksiders?). . . . . .but i had to leave almost all of them and focus on programming. . .and [size=1pt]medicine[/size] I guess programming is just like that, but on the contrary, in terms of lyfestyle, i will say i am a jeun-soke programmer. . . @poster, i dont believe programming has to do with male or female, just that, it is commonly associated with males, but i have met some female programmers that are able to make me look like a primary 2 programmer sha |

@ Op Yes there is no crime in becoming a programmer, i am a female too and i also love programming, but i have never really contributed to this section of nairaland because every time i come in here, i only see the ( M ) status so i did not want to be the odd one out or the only female in this section. With the right tools and determination, you can be what ever you want to be. e.g for me, its not just programming alone, i am also oracle certified, i studied oracle 10g, i run my oracle on linux not even on windows, windows is now strange to me, not just that alone, i am also a software quality tester, software testing and auditing is actually a new aspect of IT in nigeria, Nigeria has not yet fully explored that aspect of IT yet, And the funny part is not just that you know software testing, there is really alot of money in it too if you know your onions but it is what i really love doing too. i like the challenges that comes with programming and managing or creating a database, it keeps me going everyday, infact, i see it as part of my daily balance diet. LOL.i also come to nairaland programming section to read and learn new stuffs everyday, though i have never commented reason being that, i did not want to be the odd one out, the only female among the guys here. so i really want to encourage you to do what you enjoy doing and the sky is your limit. |

dewaledeyi: The bolded above is the simple reason why there are fewer female programmers. Programming is indeed very addictive.If you enjoy it like I do,you just won't want to go to bed on time and your life tend to be very un-programmed as you tend to eat,shiit,ffuck,sleep,etc at odd times or you skip them all together just because the codes are flowing well. Just please find a balance between the codes and the real life.Do not let computer programming un-program your life just like any other addictive thing. |
