The Twitter ban in Nigeria has extended to 100 days, and in that time frame the nation has lost N247.61bn.

The Federal Government had on June 4 suspended Twitter after the social media platform deleted a tweet by the President, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.).

Consequently, telcos on June 5 blocked access to Twitter after receiving a directive by the Nigerian Communications Commission.

On this, the Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria had said, “We, The Association of Licensed Telecommunication Operators of Nigeria wish to confirm that our members have received formal instructions from the Nigerian Communications Commission, the industry regulator, to suspend access to Twitter.

“ALTON has conducted a robust assessment of the directive in accordance with internationally accepted principles.”

According to the NetBlocks Cost of Shutdown Tool, the blockade costs Nigeria’s economy N103.17m ($250,600) every hour.

It has been 2,400 hours since the FG banned Twitter.

Recently, the Presidency through the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said it was close to an agreement with Twitter and would soon lift the ban.

Nigeria is a member of an exclusive list of countries such as China, Iran, and North Korea where Twitter is banned. Since the ban, the use of Virtual Private Networks has risen.

A firm, ExpressVPN had said that it recorded an increase of over 200 per cent in web traffic from Nigeria since the Federal Government banned microblogging site.

That’s how this useless good for nothing nigeria government closed land borders, yet recorded very little gains from its 16-months border closure .

What have we gain as a country from this twitter banned?

Oh guess....Twitter banned has made the UNITY of Nigeria more stronger.

Government that only knows how to inflict hardship on her masses, isn’t that government a useless good for nothing government.

They will come and register with CAC, get NCC licence , have a physical office in Nigeria, hire our teeming youths who are ready to work and pay tax to Nigeria las las.

The era of where they repatriate 100% of their ad revenue in Nigeria as forex back to their country and pass on the tax bill to Nigerian businesses to pay FG is over.

Nigerian Corporates that pay millions of USD for ads like our banks etc don't do VPN. So no ad revenue for them until the suspension is lifted.

Their 'lose' (pun intended) in ad revenue is the gain of other social media platforms including platforms like Nairaland.

What is the proof that their figures are accurate and not manipulated?
Or are we going to believe any rubbish that criticizes our country?
If this same site( with its Aba source) claims that IPOB killed 100 people, won't my fellow igbos ask for prove?
If it claims that Fulanis have a plan to rule the world, Fulanis will ask for proof. Same with Yorubas if it claims that they are all skull miners.

When are we going to start questioning the source of some information we receive or are we going to be remote controlled by the media who tells us( ESN,Igbos,IPOB,ODua,Fulanis, Herdsmen and bandits sympathizers, Yahoo boys and Runs girls,) what we want to hear.

Anyone who believes the news should not doubt Sahara Reporters or The Nation when they report their news without conclusive proof

Funny enough, Nigerians are still using Twitter despite the ban. So my question now is, who is losing? Click Like for Twitter, Share for Nigerian.

This govt prefers to spend 247 billion in 100 days to block Twitter that Nigerians are still bypassing the firewall with ordinary free VPN, than to pay doctors, lecturers and provide services for the benefits of Nigerian citizens. This is the real definition of madness mixed with unbelievable stupidity.
