Better for PDP to zone the ticket to the south and lose than zone it to the north, there should be justice in this Nigeria or else our break up will be sure. APC should do the same cause if they don’t, the party will break up and become a dead party. Remember the party never really came together. They are still having the ANPP, CPC, APGA and ACN block. Zoning the ticket to the north for APC, then these various blocks will break up and the party dies.

The position taken by Governors of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to cede the party's National Chairmanship position to northern Nigeria has once again reaffirmed the loyalty and commitment of the party to the people of Nigeria.

For avoidance of doubt, the implication of this decision is that the Presidential ticket of the party for the 2023 election shall be ceded to the southern part of the country; this decision is a right move to ensure that Nigerians from the south are given opportunity to preside over the affairs of the country at the expiration of the eight-year tenure of President Muhammadu Buhari, who hails from the north.

It is incontestable that majority of Nigerians from the south and north, have at several fora called for power shift to the southern region in 2023. This was affirmed and reaffirmed by the entire 17 Governors of the southern region during their meetings in Asaba and Enugu of Delta and Enugu states respectively.

When the leadership of PDP appointed Governor Ugwuanyi to lead its National Zoning Committee ahead of the party's National Convention, Nigerians across tribes and religions always pressed on the Governor and his committee to be people-centric by allowing the Northern part of the country to enjoy the party's National Chairmanship position, which has eluded them in the last four years, while the south is given the nod for the Presidential nomination for 2023 election.

Although the Zoning Committee is yet to make formal declaration on these issues, I am grateful that the influential Governors Forum of the party, which Governor Ugwuanyi is a bona fide member, have taken the popular position of PDP Chairmanship to north.

Therefore, I appeal to the National Zoning Committee to tow the line of the Governors Forum by concluding zoning of the party's national chairmanship seat to the north and the 2023 Presidential ticket to the south.

May I appreciate Governors Nyesom Wike (Rivers), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Udom Emmanuel (Akwa Ibom), Ifeanyi Okowa (Delta), Douye Diri (Bayelsa), Godwin Obaseki (Edo), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu) and Samuel Ortom (Benue) for voting in favor of shift in the party's chairmanship to the north.

I equally appreciate Governors Bala Muhammed, Ahmadu Fintiri and Aminu Tambuwal of Bauchi, Adamawa and Sokoto states respectively for their show of statesmanship in accepting the majority decision of the party's Governors.

With the position of PDP Governors, I, as well as majority Nigerians, can now confirm that the party is set and well positioned to regain the Presidency in 2023 and majority seats in the States and National Assembly.

May God bless the Peoples Democratic Party

To cede PDP presidential ticket to north, some northern PDP politicians started the history of political leadership of Nigeria from 1999, but discounted the fact that north has led Nigeria for about 70% of the years Nigeria exists as an independent country.

North used its military dictators to restructure Nigeria and proliferated new states and accruing legislative seats and electoral prowess to the old ONE northern region of Nigeria, but allowed only 17 states, lesser legislative seats and lesser electoral prowess in the TWO southern regions of Nigeria.

Land mass or population was wrongly used as criterion to proliferate the states in the old northern region.
But fact is that no country formed by different regions ever used land mass or population as criterion to proliferate new federating units in the area with larger land mass or population, except Nigeria.
North, east and west regions formed independent Nigeria in 1960.
There should have been more states in the two southern regions than in the one northern region.

Enter Democratic governance, north starts to use its advantages from state creation to lord it over the south in Nigeria’s political process.

Whenever the south asks for political restructuring of Nigeria democratically, north tells the south to come to the National Assembly for political restructuring, knowing full well that the National Assembly is overpopulated by northern legislators drawn from the excess number of states proliferated in the northern region.

Fact is that it’s the turn of the south to present a successor to PMB through rotation of the presidency between north and south. Rotation of the presidency is necessitated by the skewed and lopsided political structure of Nigeria created by northern soldiers to favor north.
then why did Jonathan contested in 2011 instead of allowing a northerner to complete the 4 years of Yar'adua?

@TonyeBarcanista

I think PDP have been so use to winning elections irrespective of the candidate (because of the ability to rig willy nilly in the past) that they do not know how to be strategic in choosing candidates. These days it is harder to rig elections so you have to be strategic in choosing your candidates. One of the reasons they lost in 2019 was because they chose Peter Obi as VP who offered nothing...he didnt give them additional votes that they didnt already have or lose them votes because he wasnt picked...SE was always only going to vote for PDP!! Even with that how many are the SE votes? Therefore his presence on the ticket brought no advantage, i.e he wasnt a break through candidate that brought votes from areas they ordinary wouldnt and now they are about to make another strategic blunder because by zoning the presidency to the south they miss the opportunity to capitalise on many in the north who dont want power to return to the south. There is no incentive for the North to vote for PDP if the APC also fields a Southern candidate and there is even less incentive for the North to vote PDP if APC feilds a Northern candidate. They wont get SW votes they wont eat into Northern votes so what have they gained by this?

Winning elections is not about sentiment it's about arithmetic. it's about numbers....and where are the numbers?

PDP are clearly not ready to quit opposition.

I am a southerner and I tell you the only chance PDP have of winning is to field a Northerner. SW is not voting PDP come what may (i.e whether northern or Southern candidate) the votes PDP need to stand any chance are from the North and this will alienate those voters.

it is a failure of the opposition that after 8 years of Buhari govt that APC will still get relected. But this kind of school boy error shows that truly PDP (or whats left of it) are incompetent!!!

The south is making a big statement with this.

As we all know, there are more competent politicians from the south that can deliver and balance the lost glory and try to revive Nigeria from the stranglehold of some cabal who have hijacked the presidency

People with integrity like Peter Obi, Nyesom Wike and Seyi Makinde have all shown their credibility at their various levels and deserve a shot at the presidency position

If PDP can field any of these options, I will vote for them strongly as they will stand a better chance in redeeming the image of this country which has been felt a huge damage by this administration

You think the PDP will zone it to south...when they were sing north the other day.
This is a grand strategy to fake APC so that they win the presidency.

The cunning people in PDP are really doing a great job.

APC is at the center with more control states. now if they zone theirs ticket to South west automatically as expected PDP Southern presidential candidate is gone. And Tinubu will become president without a fight..
The same way APC defeated a sitting president.

What should we do ? PDP leaders said to themselves...let pretend will we give the PDP presidential ticket to southern by zoning PDP chairmanship to north. Then should APC do the same by laying it on Tinubu hand.

Dying minutes Booms! Atiku will defeat any PDP Southern Candidates and became PDP presidential flag bearer.

Too early to jubilate, However, as APC is equally zoning same position of presidential flag bearer to the same southern Nigeria.....what's so special in PDP decision here?

The contest is now going to be Igbos versus Yorubas
As APC may likely pick Yoruba while PDP picks Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi the igbo Governor of Enugu state.

Verdict.....PDP WILL WIN
SOUTH SOUTH, NORTH EAST AND MIDDLE BELT WILL JOIN IGBOS THIS TIME AROUND

WHILE SOUTH WEST AND NORTH WEST WILL GO WITH APC

The decision is balanced because no sensible igbo man will vote a non Southern Igbo irrespective of political party

Takio
When you say south west please count Oyo out of it. Let me tell you , if APC fields tinubu , most SW states will vote the Igbo PDP candidate. APC can only have a good competition with PDP if it fields Osibanjo. Me and my family even though full blooded Yorubas , we are voting any party that present a credible Igbo candidate, we should stand with unity , fairness and equity we preach . Let S-eastener do it and see what they have to offer.
