The problem with Nigeria is that we dislike to hear the truth, the president has said it all, honestly greediness and overmazimixation of profit is what is killing our economy and responsible for prices of good hike.. We can all testify to it from our immediate environment, how people deliberately increase prices of goods and services just to make more profit.... 1 Like |

thebosstrevor1: Because the middle man will not depend only on his commodities to live. You understand it? He will buy other stuffs that he needs which maybe imported with the high forex. Tv, shoes, jeans, T shirts, cooking utensils, cars, chairs, .. he will pay for rising electric power and higher cooking gas and transport stuff through bad roads at higher costs. His landlord might also be an importer! The realization that the basics he needs to function effectively and take good care of his family are not going to come cheap helps to force him mark up the selling prices of his goods just to make ends meet! Simple economics. But simple things are too hard to grasp for you bunch of Buhari headless chickens.. 1 Like 1 Share |

BKayy: Ammishaddai:Guys, he's right. And this is not new. Average Nigerians do this by sabotaging progress. My problem is, govt should blame less and swing into action by arresting and prosecuting these criminals. These middle men are the same people that want their fair share from govt contractors by slashing 60% of mobilization fee. There should be task force that oversees this disgusting thing. President can not be here and there. So please stop blaming president. These middle men are Nigerians like you. 1 Like |

This is our problem as a nation; we don't want to listen to the truth. Yes, middlemen are to blame for much of the rising food prices. How would you buy something cheap from farmers, take to the market, and sell for nearly x3 of the initial prices? Then the retailers have to resell to individuals during market hours. We call it "business" and go on to thank God for the profits, but its plain greed. The government too is too blame. Buhari, provide better channels for moving food products from farms directly to the consumers and watch prices fall. Both the government and the middlemen are to blame! |

Ammishaddai: Stop calling a president 'useless' if you yourself are not useless. Who is causing the rising food cost amid bumper harvest, if not the middlemen? Who is sabotaging all efforts made for better living? |

And fulani terrorist murderers killing and slaughtering farmers right on their farms all over Nigeria are not to be blamed for high cost of food? After buhari's fulani regime, Nigerians will learn a BITTER LESSON. Never vote a FULANI again!!!!! Bloody terrorist regime. TOTAL DISINTEGRATION OF NIGERIA WILL SAVE MILLIONS OF MIDDLE BELT AND SOUTHERN LIVES FROM FULANI AND BOKOHARAM TERRORISM! 2 Likes 1 Share |

BKayy: He has never owned a business or know how to make money grow organically. Who lives on government handouts or salaries. Before which he had no money to buy WAEC or INEC form. That is who the sophisticated Yorubas decided to vote because Tinumbi said so. Who takes confidence in borrowing from other countries who know how to grow wealth from within. 3 Likes 1 Share |

Lori Iro Nigeria with a population of over a 200 million in Nigeria, it will be shocking for you to know that there is an over 60% dollar element in a large number of our consumer goods which is set to increase more as seen in the new trade data released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS). Nigeria recorded a trade deficit of ₦1.9 trillion in Q2-2021. This simply shows an unfavourable balance of payment position (our imports more than our exports) i.e. as net importers, we are giving out more dollars than we are receiving. “Other demand pressures include an increase in education FX outflows as that has increased from $500 million in 2015 to $6 billion in 2021, showing a massive growth in demand for dollars over a 6 year period,” the lack of liquidity in the market was causing the naira’s downfall. “With the country being highly import-dependent, there isn’t enough dollars to match our growing demand. Let’s look at our capital importation figures. Our capital imports fell to $875.62 million in Q2 2021 from $1.91 billion in Q1-2021. In 2020, capital importation dropped by 59.65% from $23.9 billion to $9.68 billion (lowest in 4 years) showing a drop in dollar supply. “Other supply shortages include drop-in remittance. Diaspora remittances to Sub-Saharan Africa declined by an estimated 12.5% in 2020 to $42 billion, almost entirely due to a 27.7% decline to Nigeria, which accounts for over 40% of such flows to the region. So, if you put this all together you can see that we are facing a serious supply shortage in dollars and quantum growth in the demand. |
