grin bad belle is allowed...people mirror their insecurities on others without even knowing. Your comment itself reeks of inferiority complex. It's not our fault that we beat you politically and still take your women as wives. If there's anything any Nigerian knowns is that the average Igbo man is insecure and egotistical.

It's a thread to educate people on Yoruba slaves in the Bahamas. You see it as low self esteem and inferiority because it's not about your insignificant tribesmen. If you're butt hurt you can jump in the lagoon

While black communities grew in size and number during the nineteenth century, outlets for their participation in greater society remained relatively small. Social organizations outside of the family unit were largely absent for Nassauvian creoles. What little Afro-centric organizations existed in Nassau, such as the few “Yoruba Societies” that dotted the Bahamas after 1836, had light membership. And, while evidence suggests that some black Nassauvians were members of masonic organizations since at least 1817, it is not clear whether any masonic organizations in Nassau actually accepted non-whites for the first half of the 1800’s. This suggests that any black masons in Nassau had migrated from other areas after receiving masonic initiation [12]. Besides family life, religion was the only consistent mode of social organization for Nassau’s creoles in colonial times. Methodists preachers had clearly reaches most of Nassau’s enslaved population during the 1700’s, and beginning in 1801, black Baptist churches began to appear in Nassau. Despite their tremendous presence in Nassau, however, creoles were often excluded from participating in most public institutions, relegating their social role to that of second-class citizens.

Great indeed. The where of largely egba and Oyo extraction and never forgot their roots or religion despite the harsh realities of slavery. They later formed a society known as the Yoruba and egba friendly society. Below is a cut of Nassau Times newspaper of one their meetings held on wednesday May 7, 1884.

I really don't understand these people and their obsession with Yoruba's, they get so insecure at the mention of anything yorubas. Yoruba-american rapper wale some weeks back posted a picture of him and wizkid and simply wrote "Yoruba" in the caption grin you have to see how they started bitching and foaming in the mouth. It's really cringe grin

Great stuff!!! Wow!! This is so so touching and will love to visit this place in the Bahamas some day.

The Yoruba are perhaps the only African tribe that retained its identity and religion despite being forcefully carried overseas. I sometimes imagine the strategy these my forebears used to achieve this. They successfully replicated almost every section of the Yoruba life in these far lands.
May God bless them. Their descendants come on yearly pilgrimage to Ile Ife, Osogbo, Abeokuta etc
