Sydney walker is Edo though.
SE leads by far in the Skit comedy industry.
The margin of lead is not even close.

If the skit you mean is the Instagram comedy skits, then the SW is ahead of the SE.

Except maybe you are implying another kind of comedy.

I will still say all rounder, it’s the South-South.

Chike is trying too. I liked his Roju and running into you.
Adekunle Gold has been on fire recently too, releasing hit track after hit track.
Nigerian music industry is now all comers affair.
To be honest, I think Yorubas just edged the secular music industry, while Igbos are far ahead in the gospel music sector.
True.

None of Olamide songs will hit the numbers that song did.
You have to respect that.

That song and only song. Let him release two more hits like that and I'd give him more respect than wizkid.

Lol!
How is SW leading?
List the top hitters from SW.
I can only think of Mr Macroni, Elenu Lasisi and Broder Shaggi as A list skit makers from SW.
Whereas SE has like up to 10 of such.

I think I will give the comedy to the South South.

Besides all those bovi, I go Dye, they have some Instagram comedians along that Edo-Delta line making waves.

But when it comes to monetization and the comedy economics, AY na baba for there.

Although AY no dey funny that much to me, but he’s able to get something’s right about his shows.
I would agree that stand-up is mostly Delta state especially but regionally SS. However, the greats like Basket mouth, Okey Bakassi, Klint the drunk and so many others gave them a good run too..but definitely the South.

In Economics, AY is great but don't forget people like Ali Baba and the other guy that runs Night of thousand laughs and one other TV programme were cashing out too... AY is great in this era.

Davido is from the SS, his mom is Edo and his dad is half Igbo half Yoruba. Davido is technically just as much Igbo as he is Yoruba, but he is mostly Edo, and therefore SS.

I think Flavour didn't relax, he just went a little bit more traditional promoting more of Igbo music than "national" music.... his streaming numbers are not bad considering the type of music he is making... I like the way he is promoting Igbo music globally.
Yeah. Flavour do more of traditional Igbo style now compare to before. He is good.

Before it was between the East and West until the West took a leap and become the indisputable champion with the calibre of artiste that comes from there.

The West offers artistes like Wizkid, Davido, Olamide, Tiwa Savage, Tems, etc.
She also has most top music video directors like Clearance Peters, Dammy Twitch, Meji Alabi, Dapo Fagbenle (Dap), Ademola Falomo, Mattax, Sesan Ogunro etc

But now the South Southerners are at the forefront and may take the "indisputable" tag if the Westerners become over complacent.

The likes of Burna Boy, Buju, Oman Lay, Timaya, Rema etc come from the South South.

Top music video directors like TG Omori, James Omokwe etc.

Entertainment generally-west. Owanbe thing.
Areas of specialisation for each region:
Music-west, nollywood-east, comedy-south south.

Don't know about flavour mate. I am talking O2 Arena and dem big venue affairs bro. If Flavour played a UK Venue it would have to be small because mainly Igbos in the UK would show up. Same. For 9ice the Gongo Aso crooner. Na Yorubas go dey there.

Whereas Burna, Wizkid, Tems, Tiwa, Davido will pack out the biggest venues with a mixed crowd. That's what popular music, that creates superstars, is about.

Runtown has done okay in Africa especially collabos with artists like Sarkodie etal. Similar with Patoranking who is somewhat a dancehall phenomenon . They're not global though with broad appeal. That's the truth
You must not have seen Flavour in Jamaica, Suriname, South America. He filled up stadiums all over Africa.
He filled up his shows in Paris last two years.
I agree with you, Flavour will not pack the O2. But Note that Nigerian music is huge in the UK only though. WizKid will not fill a hall in Germany, Austria etc for instance. Burna got a show coming up in Germany but he will not do 10% of UK numbers.
They are all doing great though.

If you live in diaspora though, you would think that the hits in Nigeria are doing the same numbers globally but not so.
Ckay's music for instance is a mega international hit (the biggest in Nigerian history so far when it comes to current streaming rates) but it didn't gain such traction in Nigeria.

This is the top 10 Instagram skit makers by legit. They used followership as criteria then in 2020.

https://legit9ja.com/2020/09/legitlists-top-10-nigerian-funny-skits-makers-with-highest-instagram-followers.html

You have Shaggi, craze clown, Lasisi, Oluwadollars, cute Abiola, Sydney Talker, Josh2funny, MC lively, Tao, & Maraji.

Out of the 10: 1 SS, 2 Igbos, and 7 Yorubas.

Below is another list in 2021 with two other shuffles and Yorubas still dominate it.

https://firstnewsonline.ng/10-most-followed-nigerian-comedians-skit-makers-on-instagram-twitter

Can you present the criteria you used to arrive at the Igbo conclusion for Instagram skit makers?

Why Instagram?
How many Nigerians are on Instagram.
I'm personally not on Instagram and I haven't even heard most of names in that list.
How exactly are Ikorodu boys comedians for example.
The list is a bit pointless.
Facebook should be a better measure.
Re: South South Is Taking Over The Music Industry by Justmesagi: 11:25pm On Nov 01, 2021
Ekealterego:

It depends on what type of comedy too.. stand-up nationally is a dying craft... But South South and East (Basket mouth, Okey Bakassi, klint the drunk, Buchi, etc) were quite ahead of the West even till today.

However, when it comes to skit, I think the West are doing great but the East still edges it. No one does the numbers Emmanuella and Markangel does on platforms. Crazy clown was also one of the trend setters... but they still have Sydney Walker, Nastyblaq (Who are all easterners)

However, the West also have a lot of good ones like Macaroni, Tao etc. but I think some of them are limited because they appeal more to a region against people like Emmanuella that have a global audience for instance.
You have a point.

You see that I specifically mentioned to you that if the skit is Instagram comedy skits.

I really don’t know much about Facebook Comedy like that too so I won’t be able to argue that one.

If I had not look it up just now, I would have argued with anybody that the guy is Yoruba. I learn something new.

He’s actually from Edo state but born in Osun and spent most of his life here in the west which explained why his behavior, manner, diction, and etc is fully Yoruba.

These are mostly regional estimations. In the East, no one knows most of these guys.

I think a better way should be social media comedy makers.

Emmanuella tops all of them.

They don't know Tao, Abiola and most of the ones you have mentioned. Macaroni have a more national and continental (African) appeal.

I believe when it comes to YouTube, Samspeedy got a more global audience and YouTube subscription than all of them.

I believe they all work together well though. They do a lot of collaboration to promote each other.
Re: South South Is Taking Over The Music Industry by bahdpersona(m): 11:34pm On Nov 01, 2021
Ekealterego:

There is no need for "competition", they should all collaborate and work together.

The "East" holds its own and have a lot of prospects too.
Ckay who is from the "East" is the hottest thing out there currently. His streaming is by far the highest of any Nigerian this year. His streaming for this month is higher than all the Davido, WizKid, Tiwa and Tems hits this year put together.

With the pace it is taking, it will be the highest ever streamed Nigerian Music on YouTube and Spotify.

Olamide and Phyno are at par and their collaboration was epic.

in Gospel, people like Sinach have the highest streaming of any gospel musician in history. One of his track is nearing 200 million on YouTube

Techno have music with over 170 million views on YouTube.

Old timers like flavour, too many new artistes.

They all need each other. They have been able to work together like the legendary Olamide and Phyno combination.

Collaborations will take them higher and make them better.

Also note that music that is popular in the west might not be in the East. You listen to zlatan in the west, no one knows him in the East.

People like Flavour are concentrating on Igbo cultural music these days, which might not be popular nationally but appeals to a particular group.

Globally, they are all doing well.
is there any music lover in Nigeria that doesn't know zlatan? I don't think so... Musics released in the south west will become popular in the whole country but songs released in South East dies there...

it is wrong to use zlatan and good in the same sentence,I know you don’t want to come across as a tribalist that’s why you are being lenient with zlatan, the guy is just a noise maker,if it weren’t for Yoruba media them hype he would be on the same level as speed darlington

When talking about streaming, you need to keep following music chart in Nigeria, Zlatan has more streaming counts than flavor, it's been a long time I see flavor or some other eastern singer songs topping music chart in Nigeria because he's a traditional singer with 'Akpurukoto purokoto' music style unlike Zlatan whose songs are played everywhere
