You would have been a bad leader but more than that a useless one that do not know anything about good governance, globalization mechanism and truly liberal economics. I wonder who sold the like that closing border makes a country's economy functional

USA , China used all that method to develop their country.
They can't restrict their market from our products and be dumping theirs freely in our market.

Denounce your citizenship and go and owe 35m naira in USA because you can't pay 100k in Nigeria

But you know when all is complete, you stop paying rent and get other benefits.

Linking Lagos Ibadan segment to Abuja-Kaduna rail on to Kano means food originating in that area will cost less to transport to consuming areas.

Very interesting and what you said sound cool yo your hear bah? So because Britain go $500billion so your buhari should follow that line too, Just hear yourself? Only this year alone loan is almost that $100billion if this $16billionis added so go back to 2015 till date draw up your figure herethen you will see the deadly path apc has taken in poorly managed economy like Nigeria.

Bro stop defending what wil ends up consuming this country pls stop this I not about party or emotion about soul saving.

We have the capacity to repay our loans and we've never defaulted. The creditors are not fools too, they wont give the loans beyond what we can repay.

It we want to be getting free from suffering economic collapse each time oil prices crash, the best for us is raise loans for investments and pay back gradually from our earnings while using the infrastructure to stimulate economic activities with expected revenue increase plough back to service the loans.

Our economic performance since 1970's has been tracking oil prices, something drastic must be done about it.

And where is your evidence that loan of $100bn has been collected this year alone? That's simply untrue, get your facts from DMO website not from emotions or feelings

Will you rather the incoming generation meet potholes instead of roads or zero railway that will cost many times today's prices to construct in the coming decades?

I will invest in agriculture. If all the money we were busy borrowing for infrastructurial development were channeled towards agricultural development Nigeria would have been better than were we are. Just calculate, how much is fertilizer, how much is herbicides and other agricultural materials and machineries in the market today? Can a common man afford such things? What of high improve seeds?

After investing in agriculture, how do you now transport your products to the market efficiently? How do you compete for export market if it cost an arm and a leg to get to the seaport?

Rail transport has been shown to be about 55% cheaper than trucks. I bought watermelon for 20 naira in Bauchi at a time it sells for 400 In Lagos. What do you think accounts for the difference?

CBN recently designed anchor borrowers scheme of about 300bn for rice farmers, made subsidized forex available for rice millers to buy equipment, Coscharis, Olam, Dangote etc took advantage while perpetual complainers keep doing their thing. Over 10 fertilizer blending plants have been reactivated since 2015. So there's nothing new in your plans, but we surely need to increase the investments, but infrastructure investment is critical.

That's why British colonialist built railway without much argument even before 1914 amalgamation to transport agricultural products. If we are still arguing about building it today then something is surely wrong with us.

The pay back plan is pay your taxes. Border closure is good policy. It will protect Nigerian goods. Personally if I were President, my economic policies would be more draconian. Nigerians don't want to use brains at all yet the world is changing.
There is energy transition. Crude oil will soon be destroyed as the most important global commodity.
There are supply chains issues and post COVID stuff causing global inflation yet all Nigerians can think about is cheap petrol, imported salad and bone straight hair. It is a disgrace
Buhari should solve three problems and I won't have problem with his problem.
1. Electricity.
2. Complete Adjekuta steel...
3. I'm still thinking of the third.

That voice vote is always dubious. Plus the lobbying from the senate leaders to their ever loyal colleagues to have a useless bill passed because the executive wants it so. So you actually think if 70% of the senate don't want a bill to be passed, it will be passed?

Hello there's a serious economic recession afflicting all oil dependent countries just in case you've not heard about it. I've not come across anyone who lost 70% of his income and now starts taking more vacations and throws more parties than before. What is being done today are things that should have been done 30 years ago.

For example Ajaokuta steel can never work without itakpe rail line to iron ore mines. But out wonderful past leaders started and abandoned it and giving phantom promises that the plant will soon start.
Now 33 years after the railway is s completed, what needs to be done now is rehabilitate the iron ore mines, supply raw materials to Ajaokuta sustainably then the blast furnace can be started. It must have run for 15 years non stop so it needs steady supply of iron ore, this can only be guaranteed with a rail link cost effectively.

So my friend, things don't just happen, there usually are painstaking building blocks.

The loans are mainly for investment in infrastructure. We need to invest $100b every year in infrastrcture alone for the next 10 years. Total earning of Nigeria govt is not up to $25bn, out of which they cant spare more than $5bn for infrastructure and maintenance. Where do you get part of the shortfall?
Those things to be built are things that will attract foreign and local investors to also raise loans to invest in business to create jobs.

If you are waiting for foreign investors to come and fix infrastructure for us just know that no foreign investor will go and invest in country where the govt and people don't have enough faith in it's viability to go as far as raise loans to invest in.

Maybe you can share your idea on how to raise reasonable funds to start fixing our infrastructure gap

You made sense, but I have a different idea about it.

In the first place, Nigeria does not need to borrow 1 kobo from anybody. None of the infrastructure the govt plans to build is an emergency. So, no Nigerian will die without them.

Secondly, every borrower makes himself a slave to the lender. As you said, Nigeria can not raise the money as a result of which they borrow. So, how is Nigeria planning to repay the loans. With the level of insecurity in the country, nobody will invest in the country. How to solve the security situation should be more important than building anything now.

The govt should focus on how to make the economy self sustaining and not depend on foreign money. They can start by cutting expenses. There is no better way to show faith in oneself than to do things by oneself, and not depend on others.

The problem is that the govt is yet to realise that the country is in trouble. Whether they agree with it / realise it or not, millions of upright citizens of Nigeria are going below the poverty line every day, and this situation is a time bomb.

How do you make the economy self sustaining without good infrastructure for crying out loud. Don't be wowed by the goodluck of continously rising oil price till it got to peak and crashed.
Except you can point to one economic policy independent of high oil prices that created some stability in the economy.

Goodluck can take an economy thus far and will run out soon.

With level of insecurity, Dangote is investing $16bn in oil refinery, $2.5b in fertilizer, BUA is planning for 200kbl refinery, Arla and Friesland is investing $100's million in dairy, Coscharis , Dangote, Olam, Lagos states are investing billions in rice mills, 7th train NLNG plant worth around $15b is in the works with investors participating.

I don't know who is propagating the lie that people are not investing in Nigeria.

Those infrastructure investments you think are not necessary will stimulate only more local and foreign investments, and as we speak there are plans for new estates, industrial establishments. Those propagating the idea of stopping investment in infrastructure know the impact as it will call to question there own stewardship of our resources without focus on improvement of infrastructure that can support production in the real sector.
