Could You Give Some Advice To A Junior Developer? by CapedBaldy: 3:05pm On Dec 04, 2021
Hi everyone! I've been teaching myself how to code for some months now. So far, I've been able to learn HTML, CSS and JavaScript. My goal is to become a Full stack developer.

I've built several projects and I also created an account on Upwork to get some jobs. Upwork hasn't been very encouraging though. I've been there for months and I haven't been able to land any jobs. I'm also combining all these with my studies at university.

What I want to know right now, is, what kind I do right now to be able to make some money and also gain experience as a junior developer. I'm also close to learning a JavaScript framework so i can be more employable.

Please tell me how you were able to develop your skills and your career. I really need some guidance so i can make the right choices.

pop the stack.
use the T-career approach.

For the first, as soon as you begin to get an idea of what you find passion in, trim down other unnecessary stacks until you gain mastery.

and the second one is same, gain idea about every stack, but only fixate most of your energy on small set of stacks.

T-career approach means you should be knowledgeable in a lot of things as much as you can, it means going your way learn just about anything that comes your way but it also means you would have some in-depth knowledge in only few related stacks of language where you spend about 70% of your time on. In this few stack you will have the ability to grow faster and while doing this you're not shut out of what is happening in other part of the journey.

Brother, I would be very frank with you. If these are the kind of things you have a portfolio then you never start except you be woman sha. If you be man, this is absolutely unacceptable.

What kind of projects do you have in mind then? I know I'm a junior Dev and what I've made is stuff that's appropriate for my skill level. And also what does gender have to do with anything?

Look through my former posts on the kinda projects people should do I even put down some examples. Yeah if it's a woman it's acceptable. The bar for women isn't the same as men especially when it comes to getting work. Women get hired with to do list on their Portfolio but absolutely no one will hire you a man with a to do list on his portfolio in 2021.

I guess I'll have to find more advanced stuff to build

you are good brother and never give up. Don't depend only on Upwork, there are 1 million remote opportunities out there for a junior front end developer. Check LinkedIn, check indeed and other freelance sites. Do a cold call as well. Keep on knocking, Go to IT conferences and share your card. Up your skill level too. Most important put Jesus first. Only one door you need and other doors will open
