There is of course a parallel. It is the parallel of a relationship between a superior and a subordinate.

Just like an army officer dare not propose to a soldier of the rank and file. A lecturer can't date his direct student, etc. In the west, bosses in the office must be very careful with what they say to their subordinates as any attempted approach can be construed as harassment due to the power disparity.

Understand this: relationships between people of different power status in a working context is frowned upon everywhere because of the implication that the superior one is either using their position to coerce the subordinate, or to favour them unduly.

Professors are required to alert the university should a relationship develop between them and a student to ensure no unfair advantage is given to the student.

It’s like you guys are not getting it. What happened in Turkey is different from the context of NYSC. The Turkey is a normal military settings while NYSC is a case of a soldier and her trainee.

For NYSC, soldiers are deployed to camp across Nigeria to coordinate corp members and instill discipline and other military techniques in them. It is like a case of a trainer and a trainee.

So if a soldier fall in love in camp with a corper, that’s cool if it is done privately until camp is over. But if a soldier openly accept proposal of a corp member in the camp then that is problematic.

The reason it is problematic is that it might be seen as a clash of interest. It will be seen as you use your office to influence someone you are supposed to train. That’s why lecturers are always remanded if they are found with their student because it is a clash of interest.

One thing about Nigeria these days is that we have too much brain drain. People are now like a senseless mob that just comment for the sake of it. No rational reasoning, no critical thinking, they just regurgitate anything that is media friendly and that’s it.

Trust me, no one is saying they shouldn’t love BUT they should have waited till after NYSC camp and that will still be very okay.

I've read it, all they were talking about was how it was against the army code. You are defending them, so you should know the specific law that was broken.

Am asking because in Nigeria, just because a security operative detains you doesn't mean that you broke the law.

So tell me which army code she broke and the punishment (they always have a specific punishment attached to it). Except she has to face the army court or something like that.
