I don't know what you mean by better........It is a voting system. You win some and lose others. How can you select journalists and tell them to vote who is the best footballer in the European leagues and adjudge same to be better than All FIFA-registered nations (including Timor-Leste) voting?

This isn't the first time.

David de Gea was in the FIFA Starting 11 but Thibaut Courtois won the FIFATheBest GK Award. (2018)

In 2018....Salah finished Third like he did this year yet lost out of the 11 to Mbappe & Messi with fewer votes.

Again..... FIFATheBest is ranked into four groups: Coaches, Captains, Journalists (one from every country) & fans....

Even for the fans....Messi had a whooping 700k+ to Lewy's 350k+. More coaches even voted for Salah than Messi.

All these things add up to play a role.

Infact, the Coaches and Captains voted for the 3rd person...Sarina Wiegman ahead of the Barca former Coach.

So the journalist are now better than the coaches and football players that hv played directly against these players... its just like newscasters deciding who the next chief of army staff should be ...just because they read the news
