Those that want it removed are those that had failed it several times.

The paradox is that if you are truly proficient in English, you should ace it in first trial.

That's for those who even fancy the idea of living in a country like Britain.

A country that once was, and now is no more.

But lives on past Glories and has been replaced by China, Singapore, UAE and some parts of United States.

Is life better for Nigerians within Nigeria ?
Plus how is life any better for Nigerians living in the other countries mentioned compared to UK?!

I think your comment is quite myopic and insensitive. Those agitating for it's removal aren't doing because they aren't as proficient as u are in English but simply because the IELTS is exploitative and is pure extortion

Hope you guys can now understand what one Nigerian is doing to us.

Due to the high level of illiteracy and alimajery fudal system in the north and their population of out of school children, we in the south are now required to prove we are not part of them bunch because of one Nigerian.

You dictate what another country should do to let you in , forgetting it was all this irregular immigration uk asked to leave the UN cause they wanted to control their immigration themselves not letting every dick into the uk .

Why are we not advocating not using visa to enter instead cause many countries don't need visa to enter the uk

I think you are the only one that will not make the list. Not part of study but case of study !!
Shokoloko:
I think the petition should be tweaked to prolong the validity of the certificate and not to ask that Nigerians stop writing the exam

If the council decides to use Nairaland as part of the study to decide if Nigeria meets the requirements to be taken off the list, we will not make it.

How is it exploitative ?? You forget the amount paid is in dollars or pounds which when converted to naira looks big in our eyes , but $120 is very fair for a test ,na your economy you sopos d blame making $120 look so big to us ...

And do you know 90% of Nigerians speak very poor English with lots of grammatical errors ?? You think its all this English we claim to speak they talking about ??

They would have mentioned the current percentage of Nigerians with English knowledge. can we have the exempts from the previous census? it is in good faith that we have more than 50% of the country's population that are sound in English. they simply gave a lame excuse

Re: UK Home Office Responds To IELTS Removal Petition, See! by panpan(m): 5:03pm On Jan 27, 2022
The United Kingdom should allow the educational institutions or employers to determine the English language requirements.

The validity of two years for the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is too short. A validity of ten years or even indefinitely would be more appropriate.

Besides, in practice, this IELTS requirement seems to be applicable to African countries.
Are citizens of the European Union, for example, subjected to these IELTS requirements, before they can work or study in the United Kingdom?

"Nigeria was one of the 30 countries out of 112 that ranked 'High' or 'Very High' in English proficiency in 2021. Furthermore, EF EPI 2021 scores have been found to correlate strongly with TOEFL iBT 2019 scores (r=0.81) and IELTS Academic Test 2019 scores (r=0.73). "

This is a simple comprehension problem. Their rule says half of the population must speak English. So, this is not the same thing as Nigerians scoring high on EPI score. The whole thing is even a shame. You going to their country to pay for education, and still have to virtually 'beg" that you speak their language.
