The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyema, has disclosed that some Nigerians caught in the Russia-Ukraine war do not want to return to the country.

Onyema disclosed this in a meeting with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, on Monday.

The Minister also stated that the Federal Government could start evacuation of Nigerian citizens, who have been able to find refuge in neighbouring countries, from Wednesday.

He said, “We hope to start evacuation hopefully Wednesday although some do not want to come back. We are doing everything possible to ensure that come Wednesday we will dispatch planes for evaluation.”

Since the beginning of Russia’s invasion, Nigerians, especially students have travelled many kilometres across Ukraine to find refuge in neighbouring countries like Poland, Hungary, and Romania.

The Nigerian Embassy in Ukraine had told its citizens to take responsibility for their safety and remain security conscious, only to reverse its stand by providing a safe corridor for Nigerians who could escape.

According to a statement signed by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Ambassador Gabriel Aduda, on Monday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the embassy in Romania had received 130 Nigerians, adding that it had also provided accommodation for them while arrangements are being made for their safe return back home.

“Also, officials at Budapest, Hungary have received and accommodated 74 Nigerians safely, where they are being documented for subsequent travel arrangements back to Nigeria,” the statement read.

During the meeting, Onyema told the Speaker that Nigerians who were taking refuge in the neighbouring countries were being taken care of with feeding and accommodation pending their evacuation.

However, Gbajabiamila called for the immediate evacuation of Nigerians trapped in Ukraine, stating that a day was long enough for “our brothers and sisters who are caught up in this crisis”.

Nothing to write about Nigeria.

Everything has increased in price.

Petro is now 250 per liter; the old price was 150

Indomie hungry man is now 220; the old price was 200

A bag of pure water is now #200; the old price was 100

I am tired of writing. The list is endless.

No big deal in it to gloat over wink

To the ipob terrorists and the unpatriotic naysayers whose hearts are filled with hate, bitterness and bigotry,it is not a big deal. No evacuation plan from a foreign country takes all citizens.

Even some Americans stayed back in Afganistan after US government withdrew and advised all their citizens to join the evacuation planes.

In the case of these Nigerians who chose to stay back, they have different reasons:

Some of them are married there with children and spouses.

The one interviewed on BBC around 2pm Sunday is already married to a Ukranian lady with two children .He was carrying one of his children while the wife was carrying the baby. He could not abandon his wife and little children despite admitting that his Nigerian parents have been worried and would be at peace if he is back home safe in Nigeria. The wife's family too would love to ensure they regroup in Poland and were keeping in touch with them.

The others are using their Schengen visa to move to other institutions instead of coming over and restarting the whole travel process all over.

Some do not have legitimate papers while some are from very poor or dysfunctional families back home and would rather stay long enough and far from their poverty and dysfunctional families they escaped from.

To some, their conscience is to blame. They have plotted against the nation and spoken ill of the land so the resources of this land, by spiritual design, will not bless them.

When i said on Thursday that a peaceful Nigeria is not that better than a fighting Ukraine, some idiots called for my head.

Like Reno Omokri has been trying to hammer into people's head, Nigeria has been at war with itself for years.
You don't live in Lagos or Abuja and think Nigeria is safe.

If not that your government is not allowing most killings to be reported, you would have been surprised how many people die violently in Nigeria everyday.

A region in Nigeria declared sit-at-home every Monday and some random days occasionally, Government couldn't stop them to enforce it. They kill people everyday to spite the government. Innocent people are allowed to be killed and you talk about war in Ukaraine. It doenst really concern most of you because Nigeria being a multi ethnic entity, the hatred is deep.

How many Nigerians in Ukraine has been killed since the war started?

Return back home and check the number of Nigerians killed in Nigeria since last week.

The best news I have read in a recent times so far...

The students got the best advice and are making use of it, they are wise and are reasonable people.
You wouldn't know how bad naija is until you travel out.

Even the war prone areas in Ukraine are still more safer than Nigeria as a country..

Why would they want to return. Do you know how many weeks it took most of them to cross sahara desert and the mediteranian sea and get to europe? And you want them to come back and face boko haram, bandits, kidnapping,IPOB,high cost of living, to me it's the same poison diffrent bottle, if you can't evercute the them to poland, hungary and other european nation let them be.

Whatever happens people would still hate the Government. Government do you. Haters would still hate. Until people start taking their future seriously and stop heavy reliance on Govt. Then they would find inner peace.
