It started in Lagos years ago but lost on technical ground ( suing the FG). What Wike did was explore the technicality & sue the appropriate agency (FIRS).

Stop trying to steal glory of another person. Wike used his legal background to question the collection of VAT and pursued it until it became a national issue and consequently this amendments. Give honour to whom its due. Twale to Gov Nyesome Wike. His guts and courage needs to be studied as a research topic in Nigeria universities

Lagos' case was the Locus for Rivers to build on.
Also, so you know, it wasn't Wike who won the first victory. A certain SAN sued the FIRS over VAT and won. It was on the strength of that Rivers adopted his brief of arguments and sued the FIRS.

So what exactly is your point or your pain? What do you have against Wike receiving commendations for pushing this idea? Do you prefer is someone else you adore or from your region? Don't be petty about this because the benefit from this amendments is not only for Wike.

The gains from these amendments are some of the necessary ingredients for a true federalism and democratic dispensation.

Although, it is not yet uhuru since we are still evolving in our democratic process, hopefully we shall arrive at a Nigeria that guarantees a more vibrant, working and competitive system built on the foundation of equity, fairness, justice, etc.

At least, for the first and most important time, the "Oracles" of the Hallowed Chambers refused to be rubber stamped into taking decisions that are inimical to the populace.

Kudos to the NASS of Nigeria!

Separation of the offices of the Attorney General and Minister of Justice is commendable if they eventually see it through.
You cannot be a lawyer to the federal government and an arbiter in cases that involve the government at the same time

They will still collect and embezzle it... Smiles this time with force

If a particular governor collects and embezzles VAT and the people of the state can't mount pressure on the state's House of assembly to impeach him and set him up for prosecution, then they alone in that state will suffer it and cry blood unlike this present situation whereby everyone in all the 36 states suffer the consequences of VAT embezzlement in Abuja.
With this, no one will blame the FG again. People will now leave the FG alone and hold their governors responsible. It will eradicate voting on sentiments during state guber elections as everyone will now understand that there is a bitter impending consequence for voting the wrong and questionable character into office just because he is of their ethnicity. Then it will be more painful when they, amidst their suffering in their state, look across and see progress and infrastructural developments in a neighbouring state where VAT is being used judiciously by the governor elected there without any ethnic or religious sentiments. Next time no one would need to advise them to vote correctly and based on reason.

9th Assembly best since 1999

If saraki had reduced his ego in 8th Assembly...we would passed this stage

Exactly. No pro-restructuring bill scaled through under Saraki Senate. He used all his powers as Senate president to oppose the executive not even for genuine public interest but for political ends. Imagine a bill as simple as devolution of powers to states failed under Saraki. Another bill on social security for the aged failed as Saraki himself argued that the Nigerian government doesn't yet have the resources to sustain such program. Saraki was a waste honestly.

Most of them are of the indomie generation who know nothing about the origin of VAT war. Imagine people gleefully giving glory to Wike for the success of a war started by Osinbajo in Lagos at least seven years before Wike became governor in Rivers State. It only tells you how either untruthful or ignorant the average Nigerian could be in pursuit of political correctness.

Wrong. Lagos had stared it in 2004 when Obasanjo was still incumbent. Wike only revisited it recently and Lagos for the first time had a willing partner in the fight.

You clearly don't know history... Which Wike? Give praise to whom it is due. The person was even a commissioner of justice, fighting for it since early 2000. If you know you know

You are not correct. Lagos State started it far before Rivers ever dreamt of it. See a news as regards Lagos State and VAT war as at 2014.

What about the right for state to own seaport, this one the south will be divided because Yoruba people will never agree with other southern states to have their seaport
I will advise you to go study pre-independence parliament proceedings to understand how the people of the present SE and SS robbed themselves of working seaports against the Yoruba people's push for what could have proliferated seaports in those areas. Most SE and SS people are not very versed in pre-independence political history of Nigeria hence accuse Yorubas of all their rather self inflicted woes.

He is explaining to you that Wike studied the judgement given in the case of Lagos and used it as a guide in his own suit. If Lagos had not set the precedent, Wike wouldn't have had any judgement to use as a guide hence would have lost too.

Note where Wike himself said in the report as follows:

The issue of VAT did not start from Rivers State alone,” Mr Wike said. “It started in Lagos State. Lagos challenged it in the Supreme Court. Unfortunately, Supreme Court said, look, you wouldn’t have sued the Federal Government, what you should have done was to sue the agency. We (Rivers) came up to sue the agency that you are not entitled to VAT.

You can hear it from the horse's (Wike's) mouth that Lagos started it and that the Rivers people took lessons from the outcome of the attempt made by Lagos. Please recall that Wike is a Barrister.
