He wasn't caught in a crossfire. They were shot at directly by the Russian military. He was shot in the neck while his fellow Americans Journalist was wounded and managed to escape after they were both split up. An ambulance was able to take the wounded to the hospital but Brent died on the spot

Assuming this story were true,it would have been breaking round the world now and no one need be told the American response would be swift and decisive.
America is not like UK where Russian agents can enter the country and kill or poison someone on its soil without a fast and devastating response.
