Despite the fact that specific factors were
involved, Rotimi Amaechi, the immediate Past
Governor of Rivers State and the current
Minister of Transportation, became Governors
without participating in the Election.

How Did This Happen?

Amaechi was the winner of the PDP
Governorship Primaries in Rivers State in
2007.
However, during the April 2007 General
Elections, his name was replaced with that of
Sir Celestine Omehia, who appeared on the
ballot.

The People Democratic Party, PDP won the
election, Amaechi then went to court, and on
October 26, 2007, the Supreme Court ruled in
his favor and ordered Omehia's removal as
Governor of Rivers State, as well as the
issuance of a Certificate of Return to Amaechi,
who was the Authentic Winner of the PDP
Gubernatorial Primaries.

Amaechi remains the only Nigerian politician
to have accomplished this achievement till
date.

Yahaya bello didn't contest too na.

This in my opinion was one of the most lawless action ever taken by INEC and co in the country, claiming necessity.

The most legal thing that ought to have been done in that scenario was to complete the postponed elections with the dead candidate since elections started before his death and then subsequently swear in the vice.




Vote belongs to the party not candidate,Inec ought to have concluded the election and allowed the party to bring forth another flagbearer

Another fact. Theodore Orji won the 2007 Abia state gubernatorial election while in prison. Infact Orji Uzor Kalu campaigned for him all through the period he was in Nigeria.
Iyiola Omisore too won senatorial election while in prison.

Atleast Amaechi still won the primaries, that fool in Kogi(Yahaya Bello) just became a governor on a plata.

This just proves that it is the political party that is voted into office and not the candidate. That's why you have the political party logo on the ballot paper and not the candidate's name or picture

To the thread, we have similar scenario, the case of David Lyon Vs Duoye diri of bayelsa.
They are not similar at all. David Lyon of Apc defeated Duoye Diri of Pdp in election proper. However David Lyon was sacked because of the discrepancies in his deputy's educational qualifications submitted to Inec. So Duoye Diri was sworn in as the governor.

Amaechi said they will spend more than N3b to fix the train that was recently attacked.
We twist words easily in Nigeria.
A 3b naira proposal to secure all rail lines was turned down earlier and has just cost us calamity. Now we are going to spend much more, considering forex.
