Slovakia says it has given S-300 air defence system to Ukraine
3 days ago — Prime Minister Eduard Heger says Slovakia has given its S-300 air defence system to Ukraine to help it defend against Russia military.

And today Russia destroyed it and destroyed the airport near the city it was placed.

There wasn't such a need for the S300, because already the USA and its allies have clandestinely acquired many batteries of it.Some might just even have been deployed in Ukraine.
Don't take my word for it though, the link below is Forbes stating that Ukraine has a 100 units of the S-300 and Russia has only taken out 7% (confirmed) of it in a month of warfare.

Remember the the very long Russian convoy that was stagnant for weeks at the Kiev door step. There is possible that the convoy was under the protection of S-300 & Pantsir defense systems.

Although, S--300 can provide cover for the convoy from a far. It has the range.

false, the Ukrainians has privileged info about the Russian attack. They moved evey mobile piece of air defence equipment and aviation away from there known bases.

infact,the reason Russian forces are taking out almost every building as they attack is that Ukrainian air defence system's have been hidden in civilian infrastructure.

The Russians captured an airfield close to kyiv (less than 3km) in the first days of the war, there plan to reinforce it and from there stage a direct assault to kyiv was aborted once they realized that most of Ukrainian air defence system's survived and there cargo planes was being shot down. That's why Russia had to hurriedly bring in it's limited stocks of Orion drone to the front in other to scout out Ukrainian long range air defence system's.



An S-300 system has a radar component carried by one or two separate vehicles, it has a command and control vehicle, it has missile lunchers carried in other vehicles and of course the reload vehicle.To totally wipe out Ukrainian S-300 batteries like you claim, Russia will have to commit and loose a very sizeable number of airplanes.

Russia couldn't secure the Air space over kyiv, an important reason they lost the battle for kyiv.

All this components are spread quite across some distance.components of a deployed air defence system is not parked close to each other but rather, spread well across. it is claimed that one of such system can provide air cover for a distance of more than 12- 20 football pitches.

The S-300 is also able to incorporate firing info from other different radar's.

the USA has batteries of S-300 systems in its own arsenal for training and research purpose .They clandestinely got this weapons.

And don't forget that the USA supplied the defunct Afghan Air force multiple Russian made aircraft- that's why the readily left them behind for the Taliban.

Another point to note is that Turkey claimed it's S-300 system gotten from Russia was interoperable with Nato systems .

Radars are taken out first, because the detect enemy aircraft -thats the function or radars nothing more.

Manpads (very short range air defence system's) are mostly for Attack helicopters,drones or infantry support jets.
