Recently I heard my daughter saying "Zazoo zeh" she is not up to 2years though. Am that kind of person that always caution myself and watch the kind of music I listen at home, but she did not learn the word at home, am sure she might have heard it somewhere in her mom shop, because my wife shop is located somewhere very rough, a lot of children in the environment. But my wife does not see this as a big deal. She always told me that she can't stop the little girl from playing with other children in the hood and that's true. That day when I heard her say that word, I called her to myself and told her not to say the word again that it's not good saying such word, she nodded in approval.

Two days ago I heard her saying this common words "Eni pe". I felt really bad, because I don't want my daughter to learn those bad words, but my wife feel am overreacting.

Am I overreacting truly? How do I stop my daughter from saying such words?

Normally, children learn bad words first before good words, like insult, Before learning good words like am sorry.

From my point of view you have a sharp baby that's easily pick words around, but something are just uncontrollable but steady cautioning from time to time can be of help regardless the environment.

Children pick dirty frequent words because it's a common word they say in a crazy environment

You can decide to put her In day care center that is in the school so that after school she resumes there and you guys can pick her up by 6pm on your way home, especially your wife who closes early

With the above, she will not be frequent to those crazy place with mad guys

But left to me, both you and your wife will work together to stop her and caution her anytime she says naughty words

Moreover, she will out grow those words as she grows, do far both of you are still working on her

In a society of today, where is not a crazy environment?

What is the mode of communication in a world of today? Communication littered with foul languages that everyone ignores. Where "fvck" has become a verb.

If the Op is fuming so much now, she will do more when kids get to their teen years. They will definitely mix up and learn lots of ills which can never be prevented. You just keep educating them about the ills.

Morals and standards have depreciated in the world of today. Even at an ice cream stand, you see people requesting for "Fvcking ice-cream"

As long as the child mingles with other children especially the hood , she will learn those abusive words , the thing there is that anytime she uses those foul languages correct her with love.

Most children also learn those abusive words from their parents, you need to see the way some women do cause their own children ,you will feel pity for those children.

All these restrictions are stumbling blocks that kills children talents in the long run. Children saying slangs or whatever have nothing to do except if it is unbearable to their mental, moral and academic growth and development.

N.B: Don't worry that you children are not listening to you, worry that they are watching you.

What does "eni pe" mean?

"You say.. what?" or "Pardon?"

I don't think everyone can relate though. You have to know this woman (a Yoruba actress) to understand. She usually plays the role of a partially deaf woman in movies, leaving you to repeat your words over and over again. That mouth/facial expression is her signature.

You're not overreacting, infact you're a good and conscientious father. But if I may ask, are you Bornagain and your wife too? If no, you need to do so today, to make everything about your family peculiar and child training easier; as you readily can't give what you don't have. Shalom!

Ooh I get, so it's something people of mostly yoruba background could only relate with. Thank you.

Welcome to the world of parenting! cheesy cheesy

Sometime last year, I received a call from my child's teacher that my 4 years old daughter kept calling everyone in her class a 'a motherfuck*ng gold digging whor*'.
At that moment, I knew exactly where she picked it from; the seasonal movie I always watch at home DEVIOUS MAID.

I brought her closer later that night, gave her candy and told her never to repeat the words again and that those words will make 'Egunun to catch her'. cheesy cheesy For her, she fears 'Egunun' more than anything in the world.

I don't think it's a wise thing to restrict your daughter from playing with her little friends. Just try to always educate her by telling her why she shouldn't use certain languages or utter certain words. At least, it works for my daughter. She always reminds her mum that my daddy said don't say 'this or that'. And I always reward her for it. cheesy cheesy

So they don't use foul languages in good schools? You are not updated. That's where you will even find the far more exposed ones who have good exposures and have encountered loads.

In a society of today, whether trenches, or Banana Island, the more you go public, you bound to hear more ills which a Childs inquisitiveness will always query.

Are you telling me they don't use foul languages in Banana Island, VGC, Parkview, or Cambridge University?

Hello, The society is influencing the generations and that's the moral degradation we created with our own hands. Its not hidden anymore.

Thinking kids of today wont pick those words is impossible. You just have to keep educating them morally as a parent. You cannot hide it.

She's obviously spending time with people using such words.
You actually need to speak more with your wife. Both of you need to operate from similar rule book esle the battle has been lost from the beginning.

One thing you need to know is no matter what happens, always play your role as a guidance for your daughter

You aren't overreacting. You won't be able to stop her from saying such words. However, you should keep reiterating that such words aren't okay to say. You should also teach her the kind of words you'll want her to say. At her age, you'll need to guide her to follow what you want her to follow.

If you can, reduce the number of times (hours, days) she spends at her mum's shop.

You also can't stop her from playing with other kids.
