Don't generalize this statement please. My mother-in-law is right here in my house. She's been staying with us for over 7 years now. I'm not frustrated and I'm in total control of my house. We are all happy together. Yes we sometimes disagree but it's normal, we disagree to agree and move on. I treat her like my mum and she sees me as her son. There is mutual respect and we all know our boundaries.
