What Martinez had to say ---
Martinez: What Manchester United have is mentality. They adapt to adversity. You can see everyone taking responsibility and using that to get a result. That is the biggest strength they have had for 25 years. That is why any team that wants to win the league, beyond any sort of money, or any sort of players you want to bring in, need to beat Manchester United mentally. That is the biggest battle.

Smalling could be out for 3 months, glandular fever apparently.

Please God, let this be a sick joke, please. undecided cry

Edit - According to SAF, Chris Smalling has tonsillitis, not glandular fever, and should be back to face Newcastle in January.

It was always going to be a disjointed performance, it was a disjointed team selection. Too many injuries and it was always going to catch up with us.

Such a shame it was in a match like this.

De Gea didnt make one save today and conceded 3.

The 3rd goal especially was a bad job
Re: Manchester United Fan Thread: Premier League Champions 2010/11 by MrTA(m): 3:51pm On Dec 31, 2011
Yeah, that was terrible. Cant even hide behind luck, Blackburn deserved it.

Less said about ddg the better. Not even a single save today, no presence in the box nothing.  I think Lindegaard should be given a run now.

Though its also unfair to blame the whole thing on him. only Berba and maybe Valencia did anything today. The rest were so poor.

I know the injuries are alot but how about we never play Park and Rafael as central midfielders ever again SAF?
Or let's see what Pogba/Morrison etc can do?

Oh well, have a happy birthday SAF.

Onwards and upwards

Blackburn beat Arsenal, Beat Manure drew Liverpool.

Based on this big game performances they deserve to be out of the bottom 3

Lindergard is miles ahead of calamity De Gae.
Nice result though, you guys were going too fast.
Re: Manchester United Fan Thread: Premier League Champions 2010/11 by chamotex(m): 4:55pm On Dec 31, 2011
We cant be conceding 3 goals at home against a team like Blackburn.
Fair play to Blackburn though . . . they played to their strength.
Poor performance especially in the first half.

Re: Manchester United Fan Thread: Premier League Champions 2010/11 by montelik(m): 6:35pm On Dec 31, 2011
What a shambolic display, beyond a 20 mins spell in 2nd half we were diabolical. Yes d injuries have wrecked havoc, especially to d backline and team cohesion, but that is no excuse for some d displays today. We all know Chica is ineffective when teams drop deep and put men behind d ball, but he really needs to improve his all round game so that these sort of games aren't such a problem for him. Nani and Evra were in particular abysmal today. Nani couldn't cross, pass, tackle, jump or even carry d ball forward in space without making silly mistakes. Evra was back to his worst and we were lucky we didn't concede more in 2nd half with some of his bad passes, bad positioning and slips. Berba score 2 good goals, but then gave away a totally silly pk, when there was hardly any danger, allowing Blackburn to "park d bus" from d 1st half. Then sloppy possession and timid defending gives away a 2nd goal. Then De Gea undoes all d progress both d team has made in getting back on level terms, and d progress he has made up till now in terms of dealing with aerials balls, with an error that pretty much puts him back to zero when he first arrived and killed much of the hope of a comeback.

Have to ask why we didn't play Gibson, surely a possible 3 games in 8 days shouldn't be too much for him. Its amazing how different we looked when we put in a genuine central midfielder. Even though Ando was clearly not 100% (seriously this guy is borderline obese, he looks even huger now than earlier this season, he most be stealing DDG's rations), we looked menacing after he came in, as Rafael and Park struggled badly in d center.

Positives. Valencia is playing wonderfully, Rafael is back and looked good when he was restored to right back, Berba is on a scoring run and surely we should start getting some players back (hopefully Tom C and Smalling are fit and available for long stretches, as they are needed badly).

Oh and happy birthday to SAF and happy new year to all. 2012, here we come.
Re: Manchester United Fan Thread: Premier League Champions 2010/11 by Nobody: 11:28pm On Dec 31, 2011
I'm sure folks are now convinced that Lindergaard is a far better keeper.
Peeps like montelik should take note.I'm sure you're looking like the expert pundit after putting my view on DeGea down.
On the other hand, anyone who thinks we don't need to buy needs a serious reality check.A central midfielder and central defender at the very least are needed in the light of injuries. How Fergie thinks Park and Rafael are central midfield material shows he might be growing senile.
Happy new year to all.
Re: Manchester United Fan Thread: Premier League Champions 2010/11 by chamotex(m): 7:00pm On Jan 01, 2012
No one is saying we don't need to buy . . . finding the players in January is another thing.
We shouldn't just buy to make up the numbers.
The best players are usually not available in January.
Re: Manchester United Fan Thread: Premier League Champions 2010/11 by Nobody: 7:31pm On Jan 01, 2012
@chamotex,
Happy 2012to you sir.
I don't believe there aren't Players good enough to buy in January.
We've done it before,so I'm not so sure it's that impossible.
If we have a great scouting network led by the number 2(which I highly doubt since Mike Phelan doesn't have a mind of his own),there should be players constantly on our radar whose performance, contract status(and therefore availability) -among other factors-are to be monitored for possible signing.the only reason that will tell me that can excuse the saying that nobody is available in January is if no homework has been done.
Re: Manchester United Fan Thread: Premier League Champions 2010/11 by MrTA(m): 7:39pm On Jan 01, 2012
Another issue with Ddg is his scrawniness. Kid needs some pounded yam/fufu diet for sometime so he stops looking like and having the presence of an 11 year old boy.

Also thank you Martin o'neil shocked
