The answer to your first question is no.

But there is something I use to tell people. There is something we call "The Standard" and the "The General Idea".

The Standard is what is contained Majorly in the Armed forces Act as well other legal books. The General idea is whatever is necessary to get the Job done par-time which typically involves bending the rules.

E.g. DSSC are not really seen as Combat ready troops, according to the standard. The are strictly meant for administrative work.

However, since the course regimen for both DSSC and Airmen - that is Airforce soldiers - is the 6months BMTC, Basic Military Training Course. And also the Armed forces act gives the Service chief - be they chief of Army, Navy, airforce or defence staff - right to utilize any officer in any capacity in the event of an emergency, DSSC officers are sent to war.

So in the end, its the service chief that decides. When Umar was CAS - Chief of Air staff, he was celebrated as one of the best in terms of welfare, charisma and performance as well as morale, especially when working with airmen and women.

However rumour has it that his working relationship with the Airmen and women - particularly the women - was too cordial, fuelling rumours that he may secretly dated some. A rumour that was further fuelled when he stopped women in the Airforce from performing rifle duty and all manner of duties requiring arms.

But when Badeh came back, he scrapped that and even sent women to Sambisa forest without thinking. So, yes, you may be sent to war but its not always the case. They are DSSC officers that will never fire a rifle after BMTC training till they retire, other may but it all depends on where order carry you go.

NDA graduates spend 4 years in NDA and graduate as Regular commission officers, Graduates for the DSSC still go through NDA but are trained for 6months and are eventually converted to Direct Regular Commission. NDA is meant for teenagers with WAEC, DSSC is meant for graduates.

The highest rank a DSSC graduate can attain is Major General, Air Vice - Marshall, Rear Admiral, according to the Standard. This means that a DSSC officer cannot be a service chief, but the general idea is that The Chief-in-Commander of the armed forces appoints Service Chiefs, so today DSSC officer is the Chief of Air staff.....


Basic swimming skills for navy should be enough, you will receive further drilling when you get there.

Navy? Sub-lieutenant. The best you can get with your Masters is some level of seniority but that's it.

Hello, if RC graduates get their second stars after 6 months and SSC after 18 months, doesn't this mean those who graduate from the two courses in the same year aren't mates? Don't they all graduate at the POP ceremony, RC and SSC?

RC graduates are their seniors. They are issued service numbers well before dssc graduates..

my question is dat is it compulsory for an officer to stay in the barrack and between airforce and naval which do u think will b better for a dssc applicant in terms of recognition and promotion especially to the rank of a star. what is the faith of those that attend naval school of engineering in sapele are they commissioned also.

Thats the thing, I do not want to be a bodyguard or an infantryman for that matter. My intention is to rise to a position of command. Is there no way a graduate can quickly obtain a commanding position without attending a military academy? In other countries, graduates are automatically made officers when they enlist.

Please, what about some one who had a B.sc in another institution and M.Eng in NDA, Does that make him a military man and what rank in any of the military institutions is he... does he still have to take any SSC or DSC after him M.Eng in NDa to become a military

Bro instead of wasting 2 yrs for masters, why not apply for d Military and while in d military u can further u academics (killing two birds with one stone)?

If u join d military with masters degree, it will only give an edge over odas during d selection process plus some few months of seniority.

But if u get into d military now, after 2 yrs u will be 1 or 2 years closer to d rank of a captain (Army or it's equivalent in Navy and Airforce), which is a 2 yr seniority.


My advice is dat, apply for post graduate and also apply for military. If u r lucky to be enlisted, suspend studies (masters) resume ur office as a soldier and leta resume studies.

Sir, good evening. I'm a lawyer: finished service October, 2018 and currently running a masters programme at the University of Lagos (Unilag). I'm 25 but will be 26 come October, 2019.

This is very possible!! But your road is very rough and it takes a disciplined person to get there!! Your only possible hope is to apply for Short Service Commission, SSC - which fits the career path I see here - but it means that you will train for 9mths - 1year!! It also means that you will have to have age on your side (your chances are greater if as at the time of comissioning you are under 30yrs)!!
