I am not emphatic about the number of hours and practice.

I am talking about what he needs to learn.

Learning HTML as a newbie, then learning how to use CSS to style it, and then adding JAVA to it. Then he would add REACT out of it

For Backend, he would know Python, Database management(MySql) and I can't remember the others.

I just gave him my opinion, because I have been there, and not to mention that after he has gone through this rigorous ordeal, the competition is still high for it.

JavaScript bruv.

Java is used for building backend services, applets and other stuff. You'd only use Java for building on the web if today's date is December 28, 1999 grin

If you can learn Cloud/DevOps or Data Engineering.

We have a mad scarcity of those resources and it is essential to have them because digital businesses live and die by their infrastructure/data.

That's what I currently do. My colleague dropped his resignation and is moving to a Portuguese company that used Japa to poach him. My contract ends next month myself as a German company has poached me.

This leaves the organization unstaffed and forced to hire talent. You really should consider that. Get the AWS cloud practitioner certificate, then the Cloud Solutions Architect certificate and you should be good.

https://alison.com/topic/learn/86838 has a free Cloud Solutions Architect course.

You don insult me before but no walls, creating more wealth is better than shouting BAT vs Obi all day.

Also you need time. I learned for 1 full year before making my first 30k. My very first job (the NDA web contractor job) paid me 70K over 6 months of working 14 hours per day but it paid off in the end.

I want to chat with you privately. I would've sent you a pm but I've lost access to the mail I used in opening my nairaland account

if you don't mind I'd drop my email. I want you to mentor me

You seem to be defending Kwankwaso. The bedwet jab was for BAT. Why you dey turn amala like this? I expected a clapback sha. grin

For digital skills, avoid Web development because the competition is high, IMO.

I would suggest Data analysis.

Kwankwanso nah my man now. This is election period. Anything to make your opponents lose votes.

But we will revisit this when the coast is clear.for now, lets obi, kwankwaso, Atiku, Tinubu and me find our ways. For now, I have three or four days to frustrate Donjazet2 to rescind his evil plans for this Country. then get my Ass and set my goals going .

It a win win situation for me if BAT wins and I win too.

Competition is high in all the fields you mentioned. Web/software development/engineering, cloud, devops are still the best IMO.

If I were you, I'd go for any of those areas.

Seeing as you leetcode, here's a good list of coding problems to use to flex your coding muscles: https://seanprashad.com/leetcode-patterns/

Ahbeg boss, calm down small. Come to my level, ahswear, you will like me. Break it down a little. Because I'm jotting them down.

The first thing you need to do is make a firm commitment to what you want to do.

Note that any of what you are looking at can make you money - but it is a combination of hard work, sweat, tears, patience during incubation, networking, luck and being in the right place at the right time.

I can advise to some level on the execution side. I have a problem of always thinking a little too far ahead and I am doing that now.

Sorry bruv but I intend to remain fully anonymous.

You don't need a "mentor" (I never had one), You just need discipline.

Anything to do with computer graphics will advisedly require a pc with a graphics card (nvidia 1060 and above) more than 8gb ram, and a 4 core cpu.

You can do without all of this, but if you get good, you will be frustrated with the bottlenecks

So you want to get a 15 inch or larger gamer laptop from 2016 and later.

You will also need a gen because graphics cards draw power. And your battery will not give you up to an hour. I would say desktop pc is better, but that is really for the future.

With regards to resources you can use you tube for tutorials. Alternatively, you can use q bito rrent to pirate materials. Q bit torrent is a torrent Client. With the right plugins you can scrape several warez forums for torrents.

If you are looking for learning resources
There are

Lynda(probably now LinkedIn learning) the og
Udemy same but more Asian oriented
Skillshare
Pluralsight

This also means you want some sort of reliable Internet connection. The other alternative is to go to where they sell pirated discs etal, but you have to open eye or you will end up with crap.

Baba, you sabi this work!

that's fair bro. although there are ways to still stay anonymous while also communicating through emails. you could open a throwaway mail simply for that purpose

Anyways. I own 3 gamehouses, 2 bars and a restaurant and I get enough to take care of me and my family. however I'm usually idle asides just showing face to supervise from time to time which means I'm idle most of the day. one of my gamehouses is located infront of my house and I connected my gamehouse generator to my house so I have constant light but I'm usually just spending my free time browsing and watching films which was interesting for sometime but gets boring real fast probably due to law of diminishing returns.

I want to start using that free time to do worthwhile things and that is when the idea of learning coding came up. since I won't have to spend anything for power. However I should say that I have no idea so I have to start from as scratch as possible. time isn't a problem...for now
so yeah, I would like you to tell me right here where to start if PMs aren't your thing

Start with HTML first: html.net has a good course simple enough to complete in a couple of weeks.

You can always @ me on this thread since this thread can be used for any discussion and we're not veering off-tangent.

This was my path:

2008 - Was in Junior Secondary and started writing HTML with my small Xpress Music Nokia Phone
Started styling the HTML with CSS and got it looking better (still could not afford a laptop)

2009 - Bought a Symbian phone and started writing JavaScript and Python (Symbian had a runtime for both)

2010 - Started writing PHP/jQuery (Got my first laptop)

2011 - Started building websites for companies and governmental parastatals

2012 - Started University
2017 - Biochemistry/Lab Technology Degree at Uniport.

2018 - Continued freelancing and became a React/Node.js specialist.

2020 - Got a role at Nomba building software for their POS devices

2022 - Got a role at Paystack building stuff for their new expansions

Resigned from Paystack and decided to go into Cloud/DevOps

Basically this stuff take time but you need to put in the work.

Good luck!

I think these problems require good knowledge of DSA (data structures and algorithms). I'm still planning to take a course in that aspect in Python and C.

I know C and Python (beginner level in both). DSA is another kettle of fish entirely. I'll start trying the problems when I begin the DSA courses.

Thanks, once again.

He can choose any one that interests him. I only corrected the wrong notion that web development has high competition.

Good devs get jobs regularly. Even in copywriting that some say has high competition, I know guys that earn well there and get high-paying gigs regularly because they've good marketing and writing skills.

The main thing is interest. Then, some people are naturally gifted in certain areas, and it's also possible to become great with sheer hard work and dedication.

It fcvvking has a high competition, oga.

Go on Upwork, LinkedIn or Facebook and see Asian guys with very good portfolios hustling for jobs. What is the probability of a newbie getting one?

Be realistic, and avoid using encouraging adjectives to beautify a struggle

Reccy wanted to do graphic designing, and GloriousGbola just opened his eyes to the reality that he didn't know. One would think that graphics designing begins and ends with YouTube videos, but it is not.

Only to learn HTML and CSS, and be good, he would use months. Then add JavaScript, and then he would be getting to December, yet he is still not a Web developer.

Lets add REACT again for few months for him to be very good, and he will just be a Front End Developer (Back end is still not there).

If he applies this same effort to Data Analysis, he would be in the market already looking for his first gig.

I don't even know why you want to correct anything. It is my opinion, and you have given yours. Let the man choose what he wants

There is always time. It is all about interest. One of my doctor cousins moved to the USA and became an IT expert and he knows all this coding ish to the max. Another doctor cousin runs an agric business.

I also have a friend from school who after becoming a doctor established a company that has a mobile platform that allows businesses to make and accept card payments.
