Well, I believe the law was changed in the interest of the state/public. If the law was not changed or the authority for abortion is not passed to the each state, the american population and economy will be greatly affected because they already have aging population and few a giving birth to sustain the social security system.

This is a non-issue for most countries. For example, in UK or France or Nigeria. No-one is debating abortion rights. They're more important things than abortion for Godsake. But trust America to drag everybody into their internal debate on a non-issue to 90% of a lot of ther countries.
