I joined Nairaland about 10 years ago with another account. I remember reading delightful stories on the literature section. I used to have verbal spars with some folks on the religious section too. Romance/family section used to be filled with so many mature people who would share deep insight and real life experiences.

The politics section was always heated (as it is in political debates). There were mature folks who would debate this vs that; APC vs PDP. It was an interesting sight to behold as they would dig into the annals of history to furnish their argument with merit and authenticity.

The cars section was another world altogether. I spent time reading dispute resolution threads playing a jurist trying to determine who was right and who was wrong.

Nairaland was so interesting that I recommended it to my aunt who was above 50 then. She signed up and was always reading up on threads and news. Nairaland was a sort of online family for Nigerians. There was a sense of solidarity and respect among its users.

Fast forward 10 years later and what do I see?
Nairaland is a shadow of itself. It is unfortunate to know that Nairaland has been left alone, like an old and deserted house, waiting for the roof to cave in and the lawn to dry up.

The romance section is filled with absurdities. Out of every five threads, four are about misogyny and bashing women. It's apalling. Women are treated like stocks to be given to the highest bidder. It's repulsive and denigrating. Some monikers are already associated with spreading hate and misogyny about women.

A few days ago, a guy wrote about how he went to his ex' wedding and was reminiscing about how he and his ex used to do this and that together. It was basically a clip out of a porn clip and guess what? A mod decided to push such disgusting, childish and harebrained material to the front page.

A quick visit to the romance section (I keep referencing this section because this is where the nastiest entities on Nairaland are situated) would show you the absolute rot that plagues the mind of our young folks. If these folks have it, the womenfolk would be obliterated entirely or turned into sex slaves. Seun Osewa, is this what you want your legacy to reflect? Misogyny, hatred and insanity?

You can hardly open any thread about politics without it being a cyberwar between PO and BAT. This is not a matter of competence or leadership. People should be able to share their political views without the fear of an online mod and cyberbullying. I am NOT politically neutral, but I won't take away the right of an adult to vote by throwing verbal jabs at his/her preferred candidate.

Let's not go to the intertribal wars. That is a slap on the face of every mod and every shareholder in Nairaland. What in the world is going on? It's already an Igbos vs Yoruba fight. Where is our sense of morality? Where is our humanity? Where is our sanity? People bash other tribes without the fear of getting banned. It's an absolute disgrace to the leadership of Nairaland.

Seun, you have being a ghost long enough. Emerge from the shadows and give an explanation to this lapse in leadership. You spend more time on Twitter than you do on your creation. Nobody even sees you here anymore. If you cannot manage this sight or get competent, non-biased mods, why don't you sell it off? You'd make a handsome profit. It's better for the website to change leadership and maintain its integrity rather than for it to fall altogether to pieces.

I don't talk much on this forum but the level of gross misconduct being displayed by certain nefarious elements has brought me out of my online shell.

I don't know many mods but I'll tag the ones I know by heart. Maybe y'all should have an emergency board meeting to salvage this sinking ship called Nairaland:

Nairaland is poison to the mind and soul.
That is why I'm gradually weaning myself off here.

There are only a few sections with good contents, the rest are just toxic!

A very few sections. I don't think I'm able to keep up with the bile any longer. I deactivated my former account; created this one recently. But I'm tired already.

The only virtue NL has Is that it helps me to keep a finger on the pulse of happenings in Nigeria. That's all.

Sad.

10 years is enough for a bachelor to become a family man with about 4 kids.
10 years is enough for a senior secondary school student to graduate from the University, finish his Masters (perhaps) and get a job.
10 years can bring a progressive change in the life of an adult.
Sadly, the addition of years is inversely proportional to the intelligence of Nairaland moderators.
As life is progressing, civilization advancing, maturity is metamorphosing with respect to intelligence; sadly and unfortunately, Nairaland moderators are retrogressing...or better put...are in an exponential state of retardation.
Perhaps, it could be attributed to the recruitment of moderators who are daft, inexperienced and devoid of technical know-how.
This platform needs a total overhauling, purging and reformation. And I don't see that happening anytime soon; courtesy of Seun.
Twitter is his home.

Imagine a supposedly sane moderator pushing a thread as inconsequential as "My Virgin Girlfriend Says No Sex Before Marriage" to front page.

Re: Seun, What Is Happening To Your Brainchild? by Nazgul: 3:45pm On Jul 01, 2022
Honestly it's so sad, Nairaland just reminds me of Nigeria, how we use to cherish the old days when things were much better.

I remember when sexkillz and Jaybee use to be mods on this particular romance section, they got rid of literally every troll on the romance section. Romance section was very clean. Debates were held quarterly, judges were picked and cash prices were given to the winners.

Even there used to be Mr and Mrs Nairaland beauty pageant back then on this same romance section.

Literature section and other sections were also cool.

Now it looks like all the mods are dormant, Nairaland is just like the North, infested with Boko Haram and bandits.

It has lost its quality, and like mariangeles rightfully pointed out, they're not even fast with their news update, I get most breaking news on Twitter and other platforms before I see it on the home page.

Go to politics section and see the kind of tribal hate emanating from there. Is it until Nairaland starts trending for the wrong reasons and the government closes it down before Seun would know that his invention has become a shadow of itself?

You can't find any reasonable debatable topic in any section of Nairaland. all the sections have been invaded by retards, and the mods seem to allow them express themselves so that they can boost traffic for their oga. Go to Twitter all the reviews about Nairaland has been negative...it's that bad

Seun should just sell the site if he's tired of running it.

That one was very annoying. The mod who had the guts to push such to the front page deserves to be whipped in the village square. A 20-year old girl for crying out loud.

Such threads should be deleted before they see the light of day.

You know these things! You do.
I remember sexkillz and Jaybee. I remember a few other monikers who used to dispense wisdom.

Your comment should be framed and sent to Seun's doorstep. I remember the days of wisdom on this same Nairaland.

Now, it's a totally different story. The glory has departed.

Then one nonsense demonic element on that thread advised the op to have a**l s** with
her.

The nonsense one pick up on this forum ehn? O ka nku. sad

Can you just imagine? I saw the headline when it was gathering views on the romance section. I could've sworn that no mod in his/her right mind wouldn't delete that thread but guess what? I saw it on front page.

I don't understand these folks anymore. As Nazgurl said, is it till the government shutd this website down that Seun will know what to do?

This place was good until vaginarians like futureishoe came into it with their fake rape threads against the male gender. I have sworn never to give peace a chance in this place again, never.

If you want to make a denigrating comment, the least you can do is to be coherent.
