ASUU Strike: Ngige and his many lies. According to Statistica, https://www.statista.com/statistics/1263219/academic-staff-at-universities-in-nigeria-by-category/, there are 39,784 academic staff in federal universities as of 2019. There were 7,125 Professors, 3,377 Readers (Associate Professors), 7,368 Senior Lecturers, and 21,914 Lecturer 1 and below. The current number can't be too different since there was not much employment in public universities since IPPIS was forced on the universities in January 2020. Now let's look at the average gross and net salary of each category of lecturers and do a bit of arithmetic. The average monthly gross and take-home salary of professors is about N497,000 and N385,000 respectively. The average monthly gross and take-home salary of Readers is about N374,000 and N286,000 respectively. The average monthly gross and take-home salary of Senior Lecturers is about N307,000 and N237,000 respectively. The average monthly gross and take-home salary of Lecturer I and below is about N172,000 and N138,000. If you multiply the monthly gross of the different categories by the number and multiply the obtained figures by 12 months, then add them up, that will give you about N130bn. That implies that out of the N320.7bn budgeted for university personnel in 2022, the academic staff consumed less than half of it. If that amount is increased by Prof. Briggs' committee by 180% as claimed by Ngige, you know what the figure will be. That is simple arithmetic. It is definitely not N1.2tn. Don't allow Buhari's government to use Ngige to deceive you with figures. They can end the ASUU strike today if they wish to end it. The ball is in their court. ©Amoka |

tempest01: Ahhhhhh,it's unfortunate that most of the government ( State and Federal) have false beliefs that ASUU is a threat since the 90's ,yet they know how to spend NBillions unaccounted for on Politics and wastage, while the Future of Nigerian Workers and Youths are frustrated and in jeopardy. It's not new what the Masses experienced today - failed promises,no Electricity,No good roads,No clean Waters. The ruling government officials have to take out money abroad for their Children School Fees, Family Health Services yet Nigerians are really suffering locally Shame everywhere! Anyway Govt-Officials, don't even have shame again, with exceptions of a very few,who are being polluted constantly! Argue with your maker, then you can ask- where is our Crude Oil Money? How much do we have now and how much of the Budgets are performing? No wander, Youths are really not happy! |

tony0806: Your calculation of oil based income is faulty, as you didn't capture the per barrel price of the product. You just assumed that a barrel goes for 1 dollar in your calculation. |

tony0806:Your calculations and conclusions are wrong We produce 2.5m BPD of crude oil daily and a barrel of crude oil cost between the range 90-95 dollars per barrel. Nigeria make roughly 98 billion naira from crude sales daily.I stand to be corrected |

NewFolm4: The problem with most of this lecturers is that they always think upgrading education system means upgrading their salaries and allowances. If Prof. Collect 2M salary how much is President's salary? How much will other lecturers be paid? And don't you think other sectors like doctors etc will start fighting for similar pay. What then happens if everybody's salary is increased in that range, did they even consider how inflation will render the money useless? Or they expect only Prof. To be paid 2m while others are collecting less than 100k? 3 Likes 2 Shares |

It's a pity that Nigerian students are not ready to resume.... Continue to roam on Twitter, Instagram, Nairaland and Snapchat wasting their lives away while the children of the politicians are graduating from International universities. It's even worse that their NANS have been infiltrated with politicians. I thought they were carrying out protests some months ago.. where are they today.... They have suddenly disappear.... Buhari knows you all are just no action.... And that's how most Nigerians are... bunch of cowards... Just to sit in their comfort zones and be nagging 2 Likes |

Useless lost greedy ass professors who know nothing. When professors in other countries are going on scientific research programmes creating more hybrids and cross breeds of animals like liger, creating hormones for Artificial Insemination (AI) which is used for enhanced and rapid breeding programmes where by up to 10 female animals are inseminated at a time with frozen semen of a foreign hibrid animal, production of milking machines, production of vaccines for animal and Human health, production of incubating machines which gives us pure yolk poultry eggs, production of time machines which reads age of animals fossils etc the list of white professors scientific achievements is long and endless and continuous but these idiots here are professors by mouth, professor in sexual harassment and bribery, professors who cannot do cross breeding programmes between different species of animals in the same genus, professors who their only pride is wearing glasses on top their hairy nose and speaking white man's language. They're just idiots, I only respect professors of law in Nigeria, every other professors especially in engineering, Medical, Agric or science fields are failed counterfeits who do not know what professorship should be about. Idiots think they just deserve millions for being professors, let Buhari scrap ASUU I swear there are lots of other lectures who are ready to take their place and resuming learning 1 Like |

tony0806: You may correct your calculations. Crude oil is not sold at 1$ per barrel as used in your calculations. This year oil has gone up as high as120$ and over per barrel. Currently it is ranging at around 100$. However, I am not saying an unsustainable salary structure be recommended, rather something appreciate and sustainable 1 Like |

I read thru the comments and I will say non address the crucial point. No amount of money is too much or too small for our professors. But the critical aspect of this issue is the value. With the high rate of inflation, cost of living standard, I think if they earn 100 million it will amount to nothing. An increament in wages and income will automatically increase inflation rate. Gone were the days when a brand new car was sold less than ₦5,000. My submission, let government engage in economy plans and activities that will strengthen our purchasing power, even if they are paid ₦50,000, it should be valuable, not like Zimbabwe where their currency is totally worthless. 2 Likes |

If I'm a student in any of theseinstitutions and after the government sealing the deal on paying each Prof 2M for a month and they start their frustrating stunts with us ehn..... Na to GUN them down. I told you all in one of my post that ASUU are just fighting to fatten their own pockets and not for the interest of the ordinary student. I'm not saying paying a prof that amount is bad ! But when a particular sector is bad, we cannot pretend to make people believe others are okay. It's not just paying a those monies, But making the system exceptional and of which can produce employable graduates. And as such the economy should be accommodating to accept a reasonable chunk of graduates for employment after graduation from these institutions. |
