IamANigerianMan:That will be the case whenever they want to increase the price . Trigger scarcity and wait till people are frustrated then increase the price so that simpletons like you will say , “ if it will make scarcity over , let it be “ . |

If you are too angry with this, go and get your PVC. Nigerians voted out a ruling party in 2015, you can repeat in 2023 by voting out APC at the Presidential election to show example that power truly belongs to the voters. So that the political class will know that if they don't perform, they will be voted out |

izombie: America has so many refineries and yet the the petrol price still went up, do you know why? Because they all bought crude at over 120 dollars per barrel which was just 80 dollars per barrel in January. Simple business arithmetic, will your price of petrol remain the same? 1 Like |

ransomed:Vote Labour Party, the party of every single man or woman that earns a living through genuine work. It is a party that will fix Nigeria. Their candidate is credible, has no baggage or anything to hide. Under him, all the refineries MUST work come rain, come shine. He is pragmatic and has detailed plans to revamping the dead economy created by a APC government |

izombie: Has a lot to do with subsidy. The money we spend on subsidy, if it was not spent on subsidy, would have been saved by government Meanwhile, the petroleum sector would have made enough profit...which includes an amount equal to the sum government spends on subsidy, plus extra profit...which would have been enough to boost local refining capacity. It is because we have been subsidsing fuel since the 1970's that over time, there hasn't been enough profit to fix refineries....and the subsidy paid does not adequately cover the losses that result from refining fuel at N300 and above, and selling it at N165. |
Re: NNPC Quietly Approves Petrol Pump Price Hike To ₦179/Litre by Nobody: 9:31am On Jul 19, 2022 |
Cognitivereason: They did not, they continued with subsidy. That is what chased away private hands from rehab and operating refineries., or even doing new ones. Subsidy means that fuel would be sold at a loss, and government pays the petroleum industry some money..the subsidy...to cover that loss. In practice, since costs of production rise all the time...the subsidy is inadequate. That is why we haven't had any new refineries from NNPC...NNPC has always operated at a loss for a long time. If GEJ-Yaradua had removed subsidy, yes, we would have been buying fuel at N150 as early as 2011, BUT....there would have been enough incentive for private people to run refineries. Privatising refineries does not mean that Company W would come and build new refinery from you...they must surely make a profit while doing so. If they cannot...they won't come. Using an example from the GSM sector...all those facilites MTN, Airtel, and Glo built...ya think they would have done so if government did not allow them to set the price of their service..so that they could recoup their investment. Nigerians need to give up this idea that fuel must be cheap...it is driving away investment. 1 Like |

Re: NNPC Quietly Approves Petrol Pump Price Hike To ₦179/Litre by Nobody: 9:41am On Jul 19, 2022 |
Saintinoo: Main reason for this scarcity is roughly that marketers and NNPC cannot transport petrol to end user at the current prices...because the cost of diesel is very very high... Sweet thing is that even APC members will buy at that price, there is no sense in supporting these politicians. Yep...actions have consequences. UK, US, and Egypt are currently subsidising Gas for their citizens, Nigeria corrupt leaders are bringing hardship to it own citizens. 1.Nigeria still subsidsies fuel....otherwise we would be paying between N400-700 by now. 2. UK does not subsidize gas, fuel or any other fossil fuel at all (and prices are high in part because it is taxed) 3.USA does not subsidize gas, fuel or any other fossil fuel. (They may give some assistance to the poorest of the poor to buy fuel, but that's it.). US has very high fuel prices... 4.Egypt was subsidizing fuel....but they have reduced the amount they spend on subsidy. Now they spend about 10% of what they spent in 2014 on subsides...and as a result prices have gone up (Reuters article on matter) |

cybersoldiers: And between your PDP...who met fuel around 22 naira and left it around N87.(officially, unofficially it was above N100-200 in many places. And scarcity was a frequent occurrence then) APC has run a bad government, but price increases are not a very good way of judging good governance. |

Prisco4luv: If you want Obi to reduce prices of fuel....that means raising fuel subsidy payments...which could lead to an Obi government taking money earmarked for other things...like salaries, projects, etc...to pay for subsidisng fuel to say N90 per liter.... If you want Obi to build more refineries...then he has to attract investors who would be willing to do so...with guarantees that they would recoup their investment...which means removing subsides, and allowing fuel to be sold at the price the market sets. |

cybersoldiers: Your just a street illiterate.. I speakig in references to what caused the increase Marketers cannot send PMS to other states in the countries because the fuel needed for transport which is diesel has gone high..so many after seeing it no longer profitable refusing driving their trucks to supply PMS.. this is what causing or should I say worsening PMS scarcity.. NNPC had to adjust the pricing to make it profitable so that all the marketers can go back to work..this is common sense..the blaim is on the russian war which triggered oil prices and diesel prices as well.. it not by shouting APC, PDP ,bubu...it by using ur common God gifted Brain to crtically analize issues Goodday |
