I said this before, instead of this unwarranted hatred towards the West, Nigerians should be thinking of how to replace Russia as a major supplier of crude oil alongside other oil producing countries. It is our turn to shine, no disrespect to those suffering I'm Ukraine. 1 Like |

Rostikol: U ARE THE ONE WITHOUT PROPER UNDERSTANDING HERE. WHAT IS THE RATIO OF OUR PRODUCTION CAPACITY COMPARED TO THE EUROPEAN MARKET, SINCE THE 1ST LNG IN BONNY WAS BUILD OVER A DECADE AGO, NO OTHER LNG HAS BEEN COMPLETED. WE CAN'T EVEN SATISFY LOCAL DEMAND WITHOUT PRIZE HIKE. THE WEST AFRICAN GAS PROJECT THAT WILL PASS THRU MORROCO TO SPAIN IS BARELY COMPLETED. SO HOW IS THE GUY WRONG. |
Re: EU Looks To Nigeria For Gas To Replace Russian Supplies by Mayflowa(m): 3:33pm On Jul 23, 2022 |
Nairariver: NLNG is already selling to Europe. They only came to negotiate for more quantity. Most of the export trade forex we got from Europe last year was from selling Gas. Did you read the article? |

In those countries where we export gas to , inside their homes they turn on the taps and gas comes out. They do not even use cylinders. These are countries that have no gas that have built distribution infrastructure What do we cook with in Nigeria? We need to think and think deeply. Exporting gas is not the road to riches for Nigerians but just for a few looters. Let us get to a point where every Nigerian is cooking with affordable gas before we think of exporting our children's future. It is no surprise that the top world economies are also the top USERS of energy. Energy is what powers industries to create jobs . You will never get a fair price for selling energy because the countries that use energy collaborate to keep prices down In real terms the price of oil(and gas) have been falling compared to everything else Compared to Inflation In 1980 a barrel of oil was $37 which in today's money would be $132 So we see oil prices falling but the things we import when we sell oil are rising in price all the time. Many industries in Germany will run into problems if they lose Russian gas .When they come to us to sell them gas we should be saying Relocate those industries to Nigeria and make the stuff in Nigeria We are talking Chemicals Aluminium Plastics Glass Refineries Basic Chemicals e.g Ammonia.Chlorine,Fluorine,Hydrogen, Hydrogen Chloride etc Paper These are all things we spend billions on. Is that in our interest? It is really sad that all people can see is the short term benefit of so called FOREX. Why are we still importing A4 paper in 2022 Why are we importing tyres? Let me tell you the most painful part. It is hoarding of knowledge. The knowledge and skill involved in bringing gas out of the ground, making pipelines ,laying pipelines etc belongs to European and American companies which they hoard in the name of intellectual property. Do we put any knowledge transfer clauses in the contracts we sign? Where is the Nigerian Mobil or Total or Shell. We show a profound lack of ambition and willingness to celebrate crumbs 1 Like |

You do not sell your blood because there is money on the table. The issue is that gas is the cheapest form of energy even with the Ukraine war it is still very cheap which means we will never get a "good price". There is a fundamental point here. The knowledge of how to exploit gas remains embedded using intellectual property rules etc in countries like Canada, France ,Italy Holland etc. So even if we enter any deals companies from these countries like Shell (the dominant player in NLNG) will still end up taking20-40% of the profit to their home countries. None of the machines or equipment used is made in Nigeria so what exactly is our gain? Money?? At current level of production we would be lucky to see $1 billion in a year after deducting cost or production and the share of foreign partners so even if we were to double production which takes time how much are we talking about? It is good business for the oil companies and the European businesses that make the pipelines , the compression and reliquification infrastructure but what is our gain really? For me exporting gas is like selling your blood. Let our experts sit down and do a proper analysis of the figures. One reason the Chinese are where they are today is their insistence on KNOWLEDGE TRANSFER and or their ability to steal knowledge In the oil industry we have FPSOs floating off our coasts that cost billions of dollars .These are manufactured in places like France or Korea and listed as Foreign Direct Investment even though not one penny of the manufacturing costs enters a Nigerian Bank. What we need is KNOWLEDGE TRANSFER not gimmicks We should agree to sell gas in exchange for knowledge and technology transfer as well as cash .That is more strategic The war in Ukraine should focus our minds that no one is going to look out for us. Gas is a Geopolitical tool that should be leveraged for strategic advantage not just A FEW DOLLARS MORE 2 Likes |
