We are all built differently with our experiences unmatched. Many of us are guilty of unintentionally trying to invalidate our partner’s truth by undermining their experience through our poor display of understanding and a profound lack of empathy.
As a responsible partner, being open to ideas and suggestions while attempting to be as fluid as possible, is one of the only few ways we can truly garner quality experience and this is made possible by our ability to willfully transcend oneself in the interest of others while not forsaking their concerns as our top priority. While you might wrestle with this paradox, the same applies to being in a relationship of whatever sort.
Remember, it’s not always about us, even though true misery loves company, the focus when dealing with issues should, however, be on the experience being shared, as even if our personal experiences are relevant to the issue on the ground, they might be largely inconsequential at that moment.
