The truth is that, when the imminent collapse of Nigeria becomes solidly manifest, NYSC will be scrapped by the natural forces of socioeconomy.

I whole heartedly support scrapping of NYSC or have it restructures. The NYSC scheme should be use as a means to improve our agricultural sector.

Every States should create a State Farm and enroll graduates to serve on these farms for a year. In this way, we will develop our agricultural sector.

Other than that the NYSC should be scrap.

If I may ask does countries like USA and UK or Germany practice this time wasting scheme?

Nysc is a major factor in youth unemployment in Nigeria. We will have this conversation when we are ready to arrest the unemployment problem in Nigeria.

If you scrap NYSC, the North will be lacking in school teachers and some private schools down South. It's okay to scrap it or reduce it to geopolitical zones.

Those schools will be forced to employ more permanent staffs and teachers instead of relying on auxiliary services of untrained corp members.
Infact, within months of scrapping Nysc, over 1million jobs will be created in all sectors of the economy.

It should be scrapped. Some people have died because of it.

Those youths were paid. It really is a waste. If anything, the government should schedule a six month program where graduates fly out to European countries to learn handwork.

If it can't be scrapped, it should at least be suspended till the country is a bit safe. Posting Corp members is risking precious life's.

Only those whose lives depend on 33k monthly don't want it scrapped. I am an undergrad and I know that NYSC is unnecessary and it has failed to address the reason it was created. That aside, it's a waste of a year.

The only benefit is 33k monthly and traveling and nothing else.

Wasting one year and remaining jobless after is the result.


Instead, turn it to a one year entrepreneurs camp, with serious skill acquisition drilling in all fields, give them the money they are supposed to get monthly ones, and see what would happen.

If the reason for advocating for scrapping is insecurity, then tell me where is safe? Your backyard? . The truth is that inspite of it's advantages or disadvantages NYSC offers the fresh graduates obvious first hope. Just imagine if NYSC is not existing now , the N33k paid monthly to about 300,000 youths annually will still disappear into private pockets.

the Moni allocated for the running of the orientation camp should also be added to the 396,000. Let's say the govt should give every PCM 500,000

The NYSC should not be scrapped. It should be reformed and improved. Its intentions and are good. National Unity, Cross Cultural Awareness and Social harmony and Economic Development. It should not be scrapped but rather restructured. Like you said it should be a skill acquisition scheme. After the 3weeks orientation in camp corps members should be made to acquire a skill for one year after which they will be empowered at the end of the year.
