By Temidayo Akinsuyi

The Director of Strategic Communication of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council, Mr Dele Alake, has said many supporters of Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party are not committed Nigerians who will vote for him in the 2023 general elections.

He also identified three major factors that will determine the outcome of the 2023 presidential election.

In an interview on Journalist Hangout, a TVC current affairs programme on Tuesday, Alake said the economy, security and the vision of the candidates to deal with them, will influence voting decisions.

Alake said Nigeria needs a leader with vision, knowledge and courage, attributes which, he said, Tinubu embodies.

Tinubu is not concerned about cash and carry or container economy. He is for something more enduring, Alake said.

“There is no gainsaying the fact of all the candidates competing for votes to solve these problems, Tinubu stands far ahead of the competitors. In terms of track record of performance as a governor, in terms of  leadership,  social engineering, mental development, Tinubu is an embodiment of all the leadership qualities for a country eager to develop”, he said.

Alake who was the first Commissioner of Information and Strategy in Nigeria, between 1999 and 2007, reminded the interviewers of some of Tinubu’s big signature ideas in Lagos, such as the Lekki Free Trade Zone and the building of a new city, the Eko Atlantic City out of the Atlantic Ocean.

Tinubu turned the Bar Beach around, saved it from ocean surge, Alake recalled.

“While the then Federal Government was sand-filling the ocean, literally pouring sand worth billions of Naira into the ocean, Tinubu conceived a permanent and enduring  solution. We travelled to South Africa, we went to the Netherlands. We found a solution that today led to the Atlantic City, ‘’ he said.

Asked about the third force movement triggered by Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Alake said he could not deny the groundswell of frustration among Nigerian youths that led to the movement.

“This is the driving force of Obi’s popularity on social media. The feeling is natural. The pent-up anger is real. We all have opinions as Nigerians on how things should be or ought to be. This is what is being aggregated on social media. But social media will not determine the 2023 election.

“The population of the social media warriors will not necessarily translate into votes, especially among rural dwellers. Whoever is basing Obi’s popularity on social media, has missed it,” he said.

Alake said the APC presidential campaign will deal with the Obi problem when the INEC flags off the campaign at the end of September.

But he said there is no basis of comparison between Tinubu and Obi and suggested many  Obi’s social media supporters are in it for entertainment and not because they are committed.

He said supporters of Obi have not really analysed his performance as a governor or his antecedents.

“If you put all the antecedents of the candidates on a table, Obi will trail far behind the others. There is no basis of comparison between Obi and Tinubu. The difference is clear. It’s like that between the fluke and the substance”, Alake said.

Reality will dawn on them in 2023!

I don’t know how lots would believe in 2022, that a little Peter Obi will defeat His Excellence, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Something are impossible in life and that’s just one of those things! Even if elections were conducted 1000 times, Peter won’t win one!

Obi’s supporters are using emotions instead of their brains. They are scared to face the glaring reality staring at them.

Believing Obi would win is like hoping that Manchester United will win the EPL.

Even Don Jazzy has better chances of becoming Nigerias President, than Peter Obi

Why is everyone talking about Peter Obi?

Isn't he supposed to be irrelevant in the scheme of things?

By the time the youths pull the rug from under their legs, these old politicians will not know when they fall hard.

They're so used to the status quo, they don't know when real change is coming.

Even if it stares them in the face.

I'm angry when i see these people say elections are not won on social media.

The level of suffering in this country has awoken the consciousness of the people. It will shock them when they see the teeming youths coming out to kick these old cargoes out.

I'm Obidient, but he said the bitter truth..

This has been my major challenge and area of concern, since the emergence of Peter Obi as a presidential candidate..

I really wished the PDP gave Obi the ticket, or Kwankwaso succumbed to be his running mate, I would have long heaved
a sigh of relief...

Let's hear word abeg.. they keep repeating election are not won online, why are they now restless and so insecure because of the same online candidate?...

They should have focused on opposing and attacking the real Candidates with structure.. Nawa o grin

You hardly see them comment about Atiku or Kwakwanso but only Obi everytime, yet they said he's online candidate.

Sir Dele, your eye never open yet.

Peter Obi is the next President. I hope there will be no excuse next year. Asiwaju hope you will be prepared to congratulate HE Peter Obi when you lose.

APC and PDP are just beginning to get a small grasp of what will hit them next year. They have been waiting for campaign. They will see Peter Obi's campaign and get shocked.

Only enemies of the country will pick an old and fragile candidate as Tinubu over Obi.

We are tired of suffering. We want a country that works.

This kind of statement angers Obi's supporters and makes them more determined to do everything necessary (within the laws of the land) to put Obi in Aso Rock come May 2023. A few weeks ago, they said we had no structure. Today structure is everywhere.
Now they are saying we are not serious. We will show them how serious we are in February 2023.
They are in denial.

He is Director of Strategy of APC who has no strategy of how to curtail Obidients grin

He is saying nonsense to keep his job. grin

We shall render him jobless next year. grin

We shall sweep out the old evil order that has kept us in this quagmire and doing everything to maintain the status quo.

Nigeria Youths arise.
Take back Naija.
Peter Obi is the answer.
