pongwa:
reduce their operations time to 6 am to 6 pm each day
That won't work and you know it. Even the ban that is in force now is not totally obeyed. Go to the service lane on the Oshodi-Apapa expressway and see Okada operating morning, afternoon and night without fear. That also goes for most forbidden roads. Everyone knows that a total ban in the whole of Lagos state is what is actually needed!

Regulate, not ban. Ensure they have residents card, riders license, ID etc then regulate and tax them. Speed limits, passenger limits, safety equipment. Since the bans have accidents entirely stopped? Have criminal activities entirely stopped? Bikes are not guns (for instance) and so are not criminal equipment in themselves, they are inherently legal. And we know they help ease the transport shortcomings of Lagos.

Allow bikes work but in certain areas...not on the express....the total ban needed is the BAN OF THE YELLOW DANFOS!!...Tinubu don use that bus spoil Lagos, much has happened in those yellow buses than it has ever happened on okadas, but no, no sense of reasoning.
Re: Okada Riders Storm Sanwo-olu’s Office, Beg For Suspension Of Ban by Victor08032(m): 5:47pm On Aug 29, 2022
What could have make Sanwoolu layed ban on okada, he should also laid ban on generator's user too, because the proportion method being used to manufacturing bike is the same method they are using to manufacturing generator and it is very noisy with unbearable pollution smoke that can easily affect human being especially I pass my labour. cry
Government know what they are doing, because they are benefiting from generator.. especially ATIKU, the moment that government can layed ban on generator, we shall have a steady light in Nigeria.

99% of the okada riders are igbos. They should relocate back to south East. Its simple

So what happens to the people selling motorcycle and the spare parts? What happens to the mechanics who repair and service the bikes? What happens to their families who are being fed from the proceeds of the business? What happens to the passengers they commute daily?

Was any provisions made for those affected or does the government wants to create more criminals with this action?

They don't know the ban is a bit of hindrance to terrorists. It also has saved lives a lot. The ban should be total all over Lagos, please.

Considering the unemployment rate in the country and the government's inability to create more jobs, banning 'okada' is not actually a fantastic policy, no matter how one may look at it.

These guys are responsible for many road accidents that have led to loss of lives. You can't compare loosing a life to unemployment. It is better to be alive and unemployed but a dead man has no hope.

What kind of sanity.

Only bike sanity?

How about the insanity demonstrated by non-bike road users?

These Okada rider are getting enough money to make government regulate them in some lg and permanent ban in some ..
They should have different color by each local government, and be registered with some rules to abide not over speed, outfit must be matured full kitted, and there tax need to increase and set up a tasks force that will help the government in security and revenue generating

If they can have registered badge and not on highways...

The banned was majorly because of using okada for robbery

The same way those in phone calls business have been sent into labour market since everybody now have phones.

The same way queues have reduced in the banking halls since the introduction of ATM and POS.

I think a better option throughout Nigeria will be for the Federal government to immediately put an end to the importation of new motorcycles including complete units, CKD's and spare parts.

Within time the business will die off but not before the stakeholders, that is transporters, vendors and artisans (mechanics/spare parts) have found alternative businesses.

What part of shomolu do you live? Did you know their are some places in this lagos that requires you you board a bike to reach because of bad road? Did you know a lot of people are jobless due to the ban? Did you know their will be high crime rate if the government does not revisit the issue? Let's consider other people who are not fortunate to work in an office or have money to run transportation hustle such like Bolt or korope

Indeed, businesses do adapt to headwinds all over the world, over time.
The first thing they could do is to form co-operatives and auction of those bikes (to states without bans) to raise capital to scale up to tricycles and even those miniature buses.

The govt can’t make provisions for such. They can continue the bike business or spare parts business in other nearby state.

The ban should remain and see how hospitals will decongest naturally.

When Okada was banned in benin omo see as UBTH take empty within 3 days as in mo accident victims and crutches market disapeared fast.

This is pure wickedness how will u all think making millions of people jobless is the right thing. This people are human being too.. I see no reason to ban okada riders instead they should be more discipline. after making them jobless I wonder wat u want them to be doing they are thousand of Graduate out there that are only surviving through this work.. And I pray this won’t backfire cause the rate of robbing in the state will get high … I plead our Governor to tamper justice with mercy on this people

Motorcycles are not a safe means of public transportation.

Didn't you listen to Governor Sanwo-olu when he proclaimed that the first phase of the ban has resulted in massive reduction of bike accidents cases in Lagos hospitals and even lower criminal activities perpetrated by Okada riders?

My friend, look for alternative means of transportation!
