More pressure to move there retirement age to 70yrs??

ASUU is the most selfish union in this country follow by the doctors.

How can a union want there retirement age increase twice within 8yrs.

It was moved from 60yrs to 65yrs just 8yrs back now they want it to be moved to 70yrs.

Are they the only civil servant in the country??

Go and look up the world history. No union can compete with ASUU total number of strikes, and it's not because of a bad government.

But because they eventually get paid after the strike.

Unions are supposed to express their grievances by striking for not less than 3 months.

6 months strike is overdo, unjustifiable and selfish of the union
students are still enjoying home. Their parents are still enjoying seen them staying at home with them and helping them do one or two things. If not, it doesn't cost students to troop out and stage a massive protest against government by delaying their destiny. I don't know why people are blaming ASUU for the strike, while in every sectors of government, billions of naira are missing without traces. Is unfair. If Nigeria labor Congress can hold government tight like ASUU, by now, Nigeria would have better. But their own sector already compromise with bad leadership.

I still believe ASUU and FG are not sincere. Both do not want to shift ground.

But ASUU should have called off the strike, and start negotiation with the incoming government that would have atleast more than 4 years to implement their demands.

FG should not pay them shi shi. Atleast make them feel wetin students de feel.

Dormant staff members is different from striking staff members.

The former is not doing anything because their industry/place of work is not functional. While the latter decided to stop providing tertiary educational services.

I get your point. But if they pay them, what about students? Who will compensate them for wasted time.

ASUU declared a strike in February 2022.

Every meeting with the Union has always ended in deadlock.

The union, however, stood its ground and claims not to shift grounds until all of its demands are met.

Meanwhile, the union president kept referring to how the government has seized their salaries to influence their decisions and stance.

This is the month of September 2022 and the government has met more than 60% of the union demands.

All the striking unions already called off strike the past month after a brief meeting with the government.

ASUU has refused to call off the strike because the Federal government is not willing to pay them their 6 months salary arrears.

They've however been very tactical with the strike time frame. At first, they declared one month strike, then kept increasing the time frame while making it look as if they were willing to call off the strike in good faith.

They declared an indefinite strike after the government had met 60% of their frivolous demands.

Before the federal government thinks about paying the union their 6 months arrears, think about the effect it will have.

ASUU is known for declaring strikes every year because they often get paid before they resume back to class.

Where is it done that a union will declare 6 months strike, and still be expecting a salary for work not done?

There is without a doubt that the union has lost the sympathy of 80% of most Nigerians, and the only thing stopping students from declaring them public enemy No.1 in the educational sector is because of "fear"

If the federal government decides to pay them today, nothing will stop them from declaring a 3-5 years strike tomorrow!!!

ASUU is failing to realize that nobody is happy with the present-day government.

Declaring over 3 months of strike while expecting pay for work not done is selfish, and unjustifiable.

In a sane world, a union is expected to press its demands for a maximum of 3 months before resuming back to classes.

Before declaring an indefinite strike; the union claim they are not going to make up for the lost months if the government fails to pay them

No matter what happens, students will always be at the receiving end.

During our time, lecturers were so inconsiderate after calling off 4 months ASUU strike. They started exams immediately as if we were the cause of the strike/fight.

The bolded part has always been the tradition of ASUU. They don't make up for all the lost months.

"ASUU claims the strike is a sacrifice for the generation to come." They should also be willing to sacrifice their one-year salary for the generation to come.

Paying ASUU will mean more subscriptions to more strikes in the nearest future.

Not paying them their 6 months strike will make them more reasonable before declaring another strike in the nearest future,
(II) It will enable them to give more listening hears to what the government has to offer quicker, rather than standing on what they want!

I can understand why you are oblivious of the true situation on ground.

If the FG had negotiated with ASUU without the need of strikes, what would have happened? Who caused the strike.

Who weaponized payment of salary to frustrate negotiations!?

As far as you are concerned the FG is a saint: they conceded to 60% of the demands of a negotiation of a renegotiation by the FG!!?

The Government should maintain their No Work No Pay stance.

I already made the mistake of applying to study in a Federal University, so I will support the cause for a better education system for the future generations of Nigerian Students.

The incessant strikes of ASUU kills the little drive and passion to study that the lecturers couldn't kill with their wickedness.

Where is it done that a union will declare 6 months strike, and still be expecting a salary for work not done?

Where is it done that a Union will return from strike and still do the backlog of the work they didn't do while on strike (without being paid)?

It is a simple thing. Either ASUU is paid for the time on strike since they will still do the backlog of the work just as they have been doing or they don't get paid but it is agreed that they will start on a new slate thereby making new students, final year students and pending lectures to be overboarded.

There should be consequences for going on all these unnecessary strikes.

I'm glad the federal government has decided to remind ASUU who the boss really is now.

By the time ASUU finally decides to come back from their indefinite leave, even if they eventually get paid for the work not done, at least their body go don hear am well.

One union will just be thinking they are better than the rest meanwhile you can't even see the evidence of excellence in what they claim they are producing.

Next time when they want to declare their usual annual holiday a.k.a strike, the fear of not getting paid in the end will make them to think twice.

It's a serious issues.
If ASUU get paid it shows that FG is stupid and any association can go on strike as long as she can because her salary is well assured.
Failure to pay ASUU is the end of the association, no members of the association will want to join strike in future even other pressure groups like NARD n others, which is not healthy for our country considering the type of the country we are.

And to be frank, what is the function of NUC because what ASUU are requesting for suppose to be demand of NUC which members are also ASUU members

The OP writes as if he is a foreigner. Not paying the 6 months Arrears will extend the strike and the government will have no option but to pay for more months.

Our politicians do nothing and yet get paid and receive several allowances. Did anybody query our senators when they didn't meet the number of seating expected of them? Yet, they collected all salaries and allowances due to them. Did anybody query our politicians who leave their duties to travel just for personal gains? Yet, they get fully paid.

We need to start asking questions. ASUU on their part is fighting for a just course. Our educational system is absolutely rubbish. Equipment used in laboratories are of 18th century when we are in 21st century. Must we continue this way? One of the reasons these same politician run to other countries for medical treatment is basically due to the foundation - poor educational system. They don't trust our professionals and it is not just about the facilities. We keep blaming ASUU but we fail to attack the government whose priority isn't about education but cattle ranching, inflated infrastructure and many other wrong allocations from the budget. If all the figures padded into the infrastructure project are gathered, this would have solved many issues in the educational system.

They are been paid 27th of every month since the strike started. PRODA falls under this category yet all their staffs are getting paid while on strike.
FG is owning all staffs in federal universities their salary arrears of 2022 . Those ones suspended their strike to have something in their pocket. Let FG withdraw the salary arrears on fixed deposit and pay. That’s how they dragged new minimum wages areas for a year before they finally paid in May 2022.

In saner climes and with responsible govt, no strike to a key sector of the economy/sociol life will reach six months. Most would have been btw 2weeks to a month.
So the idea of no work no pay make sense.
After fg dragged leg for over six months now wants to not pay for those period because of no work no pay policy can't work.

While the FG is claiming that ASUU is refusing to resume because of 6 months salary arrears, ASUU is saying that last meeting with the govt rep was in June and nothing was agreed.

So Mr, can you brief us on the final agreement between ASUU and the govt?
