Imagine having two Donald Trump names, all verified. How do you differentiate original from fake? There is need to put in place stringent measures such as KYC to check against scammers. |

edogu:I once wanted to get verified on Twitter, and on Facebook too.. I passed all their Identification stages. They confirmed my i.d-cards, and I did real-time facial captures. .. But then, I am not a popular celebrity, neither am I a popular politician.. So, I couldn't pass their tests for popularity. And that was how I was denied the blue check badge. So, relax. Identity of the user still counts. But this time, popularity is no more the main criteria. Offpoint1:Exactly what I was thinking. Impersonators who intends to scam can pay the money to have a similar moniker as the original person. With the blue tick, one can't tell who is real or not. Not like the money is unaffordable. Not even near our DSTV monthly subscription. When I first saw the announcement of charges for blue tick, I thought it would be around an equivalent of 100k. That way, anyone with evil intentions to impersonate have to feel the dent on his pocket. Wetin be my own sef. Only social media outfit I visit is Nairaland. No face book account. I only got twitter when I wanted to call out my bank over some issue. So I no even dey go there. Not my head ache. |
