Driving a car is an experience that requires you to multi-task. As you sit in the driver’s seat for the very first time, you might begin to feel overwhelmed with all the rules that you have to remember.

So let experience Driver teach us this simple question.

When slowing down is it clutch or break first?

It's clutch first before the break. If you match the break without first engaging the clutch the car will jerk and stop

Brake first, when you’re almost coming to a stop, clutch, then downshift.
This will put less stress and wear and tear to the clutch plate and discs components. When you clutch first then start braking, you may not had fully clutched to disengage the gear and this will put stress and rapid wear and tear to the clutch plate and disc.

This only depends on the speed at which the vehicle is moving. If you’re crawling below 1mph in holdup then you’d be using your clutch more often but it won’t wear out as much as if you always start depressing the clutch before the brake when you’re moving faster than around 10mph like the poster above was describing.

On a normal, according to international standards the clutch should only be used when changing gears or crawling below 1mph in traffic.

Clutch should never be used to slow down. So break first then clutch to change gear to match the new speed.

When the brake fails what would you suggest ?

S
Put gear in Neutral and then apply hand break.
Never put of the engine as it makes the streering unresponsive.

Yes you will clutch to change to N but typically you don't clutch for long periods. Except in lower gear and in slow moving traffic. Some drivers do this but I don't.

Automatic transmission cars did away with clutch pedals several decades ago. In an automatic transmission car, there is usually no clutch pedal and therefore one less step to changing gears when driving........

Clutch is for manual cars. And manual cars are old school na. undecided

Today 99% of cars on our roads are automatic, so they don't come with clutch.

Which means to stop the car you must first remove your leg from the accelerator, then step on the brakes slowly until the car stops, and finally move your gear to P (park) turn off your engine and call it a day.
